BODY BUILDING MATERIAL ESSENTIAL IN BABY'S DIET
FOOD for the baby must contain plenty of the right sort of material to build up and repair the living tissues of the body.
There must be enough to use as fuel to furnish energy for heat and work and abundance of mineral material and the little known substances which regulate body and health growth.
Children, like all animals, require more growth or body building material relative to their size than they do when fully grown. The following food chart for His Majesty includes a properly balanced diet from the age of six months to two years.
6 to 9 Months Diet
6 a. m.—Milk mixture 8-ounce (get formula).
8 a. m.—Orange juice or prune juice ½ to 1 tablespoonful.
10 a. m.—Milk mixture 8 ounces. Cereal (farina, oatmeal, etc.), 1 to 2 tablespoons. A little salt and some of the milk may be used on the cereal.
2 p. m.—Vegetable soup or clear broth (chicken, lamb or veal) with an additional portion of strained vegetable, (spinach, carrots, potatoes, cauliflower, etc.) Vegetables can be started by the ninth month. The broth is usually given in the same quantity as somewhat less if given with the vegetable. A little scraped beef or beef juice may occasionally be added to the vegetable.
6 p. m.—Milk, 8 ounces, and bread, zwelback or cereal, custard or pap.
10 p. m.—Milk, 8 ounces, if necessary.
12 to 15 Months Diet
6 a. m.—Milk, 8 to 10 ounces.
8 a. m.—Fruit juice (orange juice, prune juice or apple sauce), 1 to 2 ounces.
10 a. m.—Cereal, 2 to 3 table-spoonfuls, with 2 ounces of milk or cream, followed by 6 to 8 ounces of milk. Toast, zwelback

BIRTH RECORD IS IMPORTANT
Is your child’s birth record important that it should be. To prove his age and citizenship. To prove his right to go school. To prove his right to marry. To prove his right to hold office. To prove his right to secure passports for foreign travel to prove his mother’s right to widow’s pension.
The drafting of thousands men for military service has phasized the need for more complete birth registration. You men have been confronted with the necessity of furnishing proof of age and citizenship, and had found proof lacking on account of faulty laws or imperfect enforcement of the law.
The birth registration area comprises 20 states and the District Columbia, and includes over half the population of the United States.
The law requires that the baby birth be reported by the physician; the nurses or midwife in attendance to the health officer; or to clerk who reports it to the State Board of Health.
Register your child’s birth no.

REPORT VIOLENCE IN PENSION STRIKE
BUENOS AIRES, May 5 — Violence was reported today in the strike of Argnetine workmen in protest against the national pension bill which would compel all workers to contribute a certain share of their wages to a common pension fund monthly.
At Avellaneda, strikers seized street cars, compelled the passengers to leave and then set the car afire.
It is estimated that about 80 per cent of the workers are out.
The navy department seized several river steamers and manned them from warships in order to keep communication open with Montevideo.
BABY'S BED
The baby should sleep by itself. A large clothes basket makes a satisfactory bed. It should be furnished with a small hair matress protected by a small piece of rubber sheeting or oilcloth, and a piece of padding over that. The bed covering should be warm but light in weight. Little blankets can be made of squares of cheese cloth lined with cotton batting and quilted. You should have at least three of these.
MILK AS FOOD IS INDISPENSIBLE
Fresh clean, raw cows' milk is the ideal form of artificial food, and therefore the most desirable for the human infant.
Cows' milk should not only be pute but the fresher it is and the fewer manipulations it has been subjected to, the less possibility there is of its having been altered in any of its essential properties as a complete food.
Clean, fresh cows' milk is the best valuable form of milk for children after they are weaned.
Pasteurized milk, sterilized milk or canned milk may be substituted for it when clean, fresh cows' milk cannot be obtained.
Every growing child is better and more cheaply nourished if it is given clean, whole milk, either as a drink or in the cooked food making up the daily diet.
MORE PERSECUTIONS
ROME, May 5. — The Vatican received word today that religious persecutions in Russia are increasing.

WELFARE DEPARTMENT
IMPORTANT TO MOTHERS
THE City of Anaheim has organized a child welfare department to help keep the baby well and to help make the weak or under-nourished baby well. It is free to every mother in the community. All that is necessary is to take the baby to the clinic in Anaheim city hall each Tuesday, where the attendants are just as much interested in one baby as in another. There are more than 70 babies registered there now, and the charts show remarkable gain in almost every little tot. Miss Martin, the nurse, and her assistants, are untiring in work, and every baby is welcomed.
Do not wait until the baby is sick, it is easy to keep a well baby well, it is not easy to make a sick baby well.
Take the baby to the conference regularly so he can be weighed and watched. Beware of the advice of neighbors and patient food circulars. Each baby needs individual care!
Of the little ones now registered, many of them have never missed a conference, and many a young mother has been spared unlimited pain and worry, sleepless nights and even broken hearts through keeping a close watch.
MILSON FUNERAL THIS AFTERNOON
Funeral services for Ernest S. Wilson, who died Thursday evening, were held this afternoon atcks, Terry & Campbell pars., Rev. L. L. Myers, pastor of Christian church, had charge the services and burial was atma Vista. The American Legion a firing squad and escort at grave.

NOTE ON PROPOSAL FOR HEAVIER LEADS
Orange-co is deeply interested in the proposition to be voted on Los Angeles tomorrow to raise present state load limit forick weights from 22,000 to 26,-0 pounds. It is estimated that 100 heavy duty trucks would be included in the higher limit.
INJURED WHEN ELEVATOR DROPS
CHICAGO, May 5. — Fourteen sewers, four of them women, are injured when an elevator snapped and the car engaged four stories to the bottom the shaft in the Ashland block, office building, here today.
Take the baby to the conference regularly so he can be weighed and watched. Beware of the advice of neighbors and patient food circulars. Each baby needs individual care!
Of the little ones now registered, many of them have never missed a conference, and many a young mother has been spared unlimited pain and worry, sleepless nights and even broken hearts through keeping a close watch on her baby's development—or lack of development and receipt of aid from this institution, which is permanently established. Miss Martin urges the mothers to visit the conference, even if she does not bring the child, and much of benefit will be gleaned.
In addition to the regular Baby Conference each Tuesday, there will be two days for examination of the older children in Anaheim. Any child who will enter school next fall will be eligible for this examination; this also includes youngsters who at present are in kindergarten and those who will be in kindergarten when the school term opens in the fall. In short, approximately all children between the ages of four and six years are eligible.
The importance of every child beginning its school work unhampered by physical ailments cannot be overestimated. Adenoids and diseased tonsils are the most common defects found. Enlarged tonsils and the overgrowth of the adenoid tissues cause the unhealthy habit of mouth breathing, which leads to the "chronic cold." A "cold" is one of the most common infectious diseases and is the direct cause of much suffering and the indirect cause, in many cases, of more serious diseases. The condition of the child's teeth, upon which so much depends, must be looked after; their feet properly fitted and their wearing apparel sufficiently free to induce proper development. Weak lungs,
