NEW THRILL FOR
L. B. OPERATORS
Long Beach operators were given a new thrill this week with the Shell Company's big well on the Patton-Wilson property. Patton-Wilson No. 2A drilled to 4900 feet started off at a 100 barrel an hour a 2400 barrel well. This is the biggest producer the old field has boasted of in months and reveals the fact that there is still some more oil at Signal Hill. Deep production at Long Beach was given a little encouragement by another completion of the Shell Company, Pickler No. 3 a 500 barrel well at 5000 feet.
An independent concern, the M. K. and M. Syndicate took second honors this week for production at Long Beach. The Syndicate completed on what is known as rather closely developed property a 1100 barrel well at a depth of 4760 feet.
Among other completions of note at Long Beach this week might be mentioned the 300 barrel well of the Conducteur Oil Company, the 400 barrel well of the A. T. Jergins Trust, Keck Syndicate 6-3 a 150 barrel well, the 100 barrel well of the Lang-Wall interests, the Petroleum Midway's 300 barrel producer at Rosenfield No. 2.
Interest in the Silverado Corporation's deep well the deepest hole ever drilled in the Long Beach field is still keen. A report was circulated recently that the Silverado Corporation had struck something and had set a string of pipe to make a test. The report is without foundation and drilling continues at a depth not far from 5800 feet. To-date the well has not had any oil showings or even indications of any importance.
The finding of substantial showings of oil by the General Petroleum in its Austin well at a depth of 5440 feet sets a new record for oil occurrence in the Southern fields. Should the General Petroleum Corporation succeed in putting this well on production and there is no doubt about it being done all existing deep production records for the world will be shattered. To drill a depth of over a mile before

Mr Swartz of the tailor shop was a Los Angeles visitor Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. James Reynolds motored to South Pasadena Wednesday and were dinner guests of Mrs Tom McKey and family.
Mr. and Mrs Lang returned to their home in San Diego after a week's vacation in Brea with relatives.
Mr. Lopez has been making many improvements on his property in Brea, also Mr. Hynes on S.Wainut-st is improving his house by siding and painting it.
Improvements in Orange-co-tailing more than $200,000 are included in the program of expenditures provided for the 1924 capital budget of the Southern Counties Gas Co., J.C.Hayden, to manager of the corporation, and nounced today.
The largest item on the schedule Hayden said, is the laying of 49,000 feet of 2-inch cast iron transmission line from Santa Ana to Huntington Beach, at a cost of $98,000.
The second largest project, for service betterments and replacements necessitated by paving operations in Santa Ana, calls for an expenditure of $50,000, Hayden said.
Similar improvements of company lines and operations made imperative by street improvement work in various cities in the county call for an outlay as follows:
Orange, $6000; Anaheim, $25,000; Fullerton, $15,000; and La Ceenla, $5,000, making a total in these cities and towns, including Santa Ana, of $101,000 for such work.
The company budget calls for the installation of 3500 feet of 2-inch line on the Wintersburg-rd at a cost of $2625. This is a replacement operation necessitated by the bad condition of the existing 2-inch main, according to Hayden.
An improvement on the Carbon Canyon line will entail a cost of $576.
A replacement consisting of 3500 feet of 3-inch main on West Ocean-ave, Garden Grove, made necessary because of bad condition of the existing main, is provided for, at a cost of $2625.
The exact total cost of the various contemplated improvements is $204,826." This budget expenditure is a part of the total 1924 capital budget which will come close to the $2,000,000 mark," Hayden stated." The figures show the steady, irresistible way in which the entire Southland is progressing."
GREAT ATTRACTION
The finding of substantial showings of oil by the General Petroleum in its Austin well at a depth of 5440 feet sets a new record for oil occurrence in the Southern fields. Should the General Petroleum Corporation succeed in putting this well on production and there is no doubt about it being done all existing deep production records for the world will be shattered. To drill a depth of over a mile before finding an oil showing is something new in the oil industry and shows the persistence of the oil operator to make good his holdings. When the General Petroleum Corporation drilled its Garden Land Syndicate well to over 4800 feet before finding anything operators were astounded, the 5440 well sets a new record for the Dominguez (Compton) field and puts the General Petroleum Corporation in a class by itself.
The most important developments of the Dominguez field since oil was discovered there by the Union Oil Co. on the Callender property took place this past week. The Shell Co. of Calif. got a showing of oil in its Childs well at 3867 and moved the east line of the field out three quarters of a mile. The finding of oil by the General Petroleum in the Austin well put the productive area of the field a half a mile further westward.
Wells drilling on the outskirts of the field are beginning to attract attention for their depth only. The I. B. Chase Oil Company's well has passed the 5000 mark and not found anything. The Corps-Maecillian Oil Co. has conceived itself to allow its well to be laid and await field development at 5300 feet. The Union Oil Company's Garden well has passed the 5500 mark and is still looking for showings of some kind.
In spite of the poor showings of the Davis-Maecillian well, the Julian Petroleum Corporation and the Chase Oil Company's 5000 foot well just across the road the Birch Oil Company of Brea is going to drill on the Humphries property. The Humphries property offsets the Chase Oil Company's holdings.
