Real Estate and B DEDICATE PYTHIANS' BUILDING ABOUT MAY 15 Elaborate Ceremonies Planned, With Grand Lodge Officers Present; New Edifice, Monument to Anaheim, is Strikingly Beautiful~ A modern club building, comparing well with the finest structures in Anaheim, will be occupied by the Knights of Pythias next month. With ceremonies in which the Grand Lodge officers of California will participate, the new edifice nearing completion on West Center Street will be dedicated around May 15, the rites occupying a week or two. Here is a building so perfectly and beautifully done as to disarm criticism. One reason for its quality is that it was planned and is being built mostly by members of the order, and every can appears to be putting forth a little more conscientious effort than usual to make this edifice a monument to the city. As a result this $75,000 building has every appearance of costing $100,000. So far as possible, all the materials were furnished here. The Smith Lumber Co. provided the lumber, the Young Sash & Door Co. the mash and doors, the Orange County Brick & Tile Co. the common brick, the Anaheim Metal Foundries the metal work, the Stroup-Barnes Furniture Co. the opera chairs and carpet in the lodge room. The architects, a Los Angeles firm, are Knights and S. L. Weish, a Knight, is superintendent of construction. Start with the room that perhaps will be used most—the lounging room with reading room adjoining on the third floor. Both of them are trimmed in figured southern gum—which is used generally through with sliding doors also of gum between. With a high finish, the possibilities of this beautiful material are brought out to the full. Two fireplaces adorn these rooms, built in figured material symbolic of the order. The lounging room is 22 by 50 and the reading room 22 by 24. Two card rooms, one 18 by 18 Week's Permits' Value is $20,000 Houses, houses and more houses mark construction work in Anaheim again as April opens. During the week ending yesterday 12 permits representing a valuation of $20,810 had been filed with the building inspector. None of the structures exceeded $4200 in value, and repairs, additions and garage made up part of the total usual. MEREDITH WILL ADDRESS REALTOR Hon. E. T. Meredith, former secretary of agriculture under President Woodrow Wilson, will be one of the leading speakers before the fifth district farm land conference to be held Monday, April 21 at the C. of C. in Sacramento. Meredith is one of the prominent farm magazine publishers in the world, and his "Success Farming" has nearly a million circulation. The program for the conference includes many known farm lands operators. A feature of the conference will be the ten minute talks on each of the farm land subdivisions not being presented to the public. Chris R. Jones, vice president of the Sacramento district, California Real Estate Ass'n will provide side at the sessions which begin at 9:30 and will be marked by luncheon and dinner at the Ho Sacramento. President Henry P. Barbour of the California Real Estate Ass'n Over $30,000 in Camp Sites Sold Upwards of $30,000 worth of camp sites in Silverado Canyon have been sold by Eygabroad & Fisher since March 29, George W. Hanler of the firm announced today. Interest in the development would have been livelier still if the frequent rains of the past week hadn't interfered. CHARGE FOREST FIRES TO MINERS PINEVILLE, Ky., April 9—Additional state troops arrived here today and took up patrol duty in the turbulent Straight Creek mine section, following 24 hours of intermittent sniping and outbreaks of violent rifle fire. Practically every woman and child had left the camp early today. Forest fires, alleged to have been started by union miners, were still raging this morning, the whole mountain range being a solid sheet of flame. The lounging room is 22 by 30 and the reading room 22 by 24. Two card rooms, one 18 by 18 and the other 18 by 16, and a billiard room 21.6 by 44 also are on this third floor. The paper on the walls of these rooms is striking and appropriate Navajo and Pawnee Indian scenes. 20 linear feet of paper before a repetition of the scene, compose one of the features. The paper is a whole is of moderate tone. The trim of these rooms is a beautiful drift grey. The halls are wide and the cloakroom and other facilities particularly triple. On the roof are two big fans operated by electricity, for ventilating the third floor rooms and the lodge-room on the second floor. The stale air is sucked up to and out thru the roof. The most elaborate room in the building of course is the lodge-room on the second floor. In the panels between the woodwork of figured southern gum lucrusta paper will be laid—so heavy that it will have every appearance of being carved oak. Along the front platform opera chairs will be placed. The lighting is from 538 separate 25-watt globes set in concealment on the outskirts of the ceiling. Practically as many or as few of these lights as desired can be turned on. At each corner of the ceiling is a big opening for ventilation. A projection room outside will enable the showing of motion pictures on the screen at the stage. The room is 44.7 by 59 feet and the stage alone 18 by 35. A mulberry paper is used in the panel of the stage, which is elaborately appointed. Dressing rooms for both sexes, candidates' rooms, separate hallway for supplies, kitchen, and last but by no means least a splendid banquet hall and a modern ballroom of generous size, with a flooring so laid that the movement of the dancers will always be with the grain, complete the second floor. The front of the building is an striking as the interior, if not more so. The Gothic treatment combined with some unusually fine terra cotta and tapestry brick, with most of the second and third floors of glass and a long balustrade, give the building an extraordinary appearance of disruption. RIGID RULINGS FOR MOTORING PUBLIC A special bulletin covering quaintine regulations of the southeastern counties and Nevada and Arizona in the fight on the hoof and mow diseases, which reached the local office of the Auto Club of Los Calif. today, enumerates all the roads closed in each county. "Motorists may travel from our county into another on main highways, but are subjected to disfectant proceedings at all counties," says the bulletin. "Do not and other pets cannot be transported by motorists across lines. All of the canyon roads in Los Angeles-co (and in many other and the city parks (in Los Angeles) have been closed." "The state of Arizona allows travel to enter its territory from California only by two roads, L yuma route and the Needles-Tock road. Motorists going in Arizona must pass rigid inspection and their cars as well as their cupants and contents are affected. No dogs or pets of any kind allowed to cross the state line into Arizona." "Nevada—Motor travel into the state of Nevada to date has been interrupted on any highway leading from California. Quarantine regulations, however are being enforced, and provisions are now being planned for the inspection and disinfection of auto mobiles entering that state."main highways in the state of Nvada are open—only those minor importance in the cattle and dairy districts being closed." The building is 56 by 141 with walls varying from 12 inches thick at the top to 21 at the bottom. The building, while of only three stories, has a foundation and supports designed to accommodate two more stories if desired. The first floor and basement will be occupied by a store. The structure is owned by the Knights of Pythias Building Assn. of which W. L. Amstutz is president, J. C. Idior secretary and Sam L. Welch, Byron Wintera and Fr. Davis the other directors. The special train will leave Los Angeles and San Francisco on May 29 and arrive Washington June 2. California headquarters will be at the New Washington Hotel. Already advance indications are for a delegation of 40 from Los Angeles; 15 from San Francisco and 15 from Oakland; and smaller delegations from Long Beach, Pasadena, Santa Ana, Downey, Huntington Park, Berkeley, Stockton, Sacramento and Santa Barbara. San Diego will have at least a half dozen delegates. President Henry P. Barbour is arranging for an all California realtors' chorus to be aboard the all western train. The Southwest Realty Board of Los Angeles plans to have at least 40 delegates on its trip to Washington and will leave California about May 26, stopping at great cities and visiting realty boards enroute. HUGE PARKING SPACE, PLAN Room for 3000 Cars at Orange Show to be Arranged Parking space for 3,000 cars will be provided on the grounds of the California Valencia Orange show this year, the executive committee said today. Work on preparing the grounds for gas, water, etc., was started otday. The C. of C. is expected to select on Thursday the plan it prefers for the permanent entrance. The tents will start to go up next Tuesday. The grounds are all ready for them. The Ilacentia Orange Growers have signed up for a fine rack display. The Christopher Co., ice cream manufacturers, will have one of the most elaborate exhibits in the industrial tent. All concession spaces are expected to be sold by May 1. Reservations have been made by the Phoenix, Ariz., C. of C. for the first time for an exhibit in the main tent, to consist of grapefruit. The neighboring State is rapidly becoming a serious competitor in the grapefruit market. ENCOURAGEMENT FOR BUILDING QUARANTINE HITS SALES OF REALTY The quarantine regulations put into effect to prevent the communication of the hoof and mouth disease to Orange-co herds have had a serious effect on the realty business, according to a prominent local realtor. The Anaheimer had in mind particularly of course subdivisions outside of the city. Ranchers, rather than be bothered, or afraid of being interfered with, have kept off the roads so far as possible. It is possible, however, to obtain permits to use certain roads that otherwise are banned, if the applicant makes it clear that travel on stated road or roads is necessary for business purposes. These permits aren't being distributed promiscuously so as to defeat the object of the regulations, but they are obtainable. Meanwhile reports continue to come in of unprecedented travel to California this year. Tabulations of the Union Pacific, for example, covering 109 of the principal eastward and midwestern points, including cities like Toronto and Montreal, can, show even at this early date that the tourist rush will exceed even the record crowd of 1923. Many of these tourists as usual are expected to settle in the state. TO PROTECT RYS.
