LIBERTY COURT
IN ANNIVERSARY
EVENING PARTY
LIBERTY Court, Order of the Archduath, is feeling quite grown up these days, having passed its fifth birthday anniversary last night. With merely an opening and closing meeting, the time was given to social pleasures, at which more than 150 were present.
Mrs. W. C. Brown, who was in charge of entertainment, had arranged a thoroughly fine program, opening with a French ballet dance by Velma James. Solos by Mrs. Grace McFarland, "When Skies Are Blue," and "Pal o' Mine" were pleasingly sung, and accompanied in perfect sympathy by Mrs. Arnold Enarl. Other numbers were "Spring Song Dance," Miss Thelma Killer; readin Blenda Probst; Oriental dance, Richard Begg, of Denver. Games provided further entertainment until the committee, with Mrs. M. E. Canby as chairman, invited the company into the dining room.
Here a beautiful table centered the floor on which stood the great, lovely birthday cake with five white candles disclosing the half decade anniversary.
The cake was cut by Mrs. Eva Boyd, who was first royal matron of the order. The table, loo, was prettily trimmed in purple and white, "Iris and bridal wreath intertwined with ferns, and purple streamers."
The party was a great success and enjoyed by visitors as well as Liberty court.

HAPPY SECRET TOLD IN NOTES LAST EVENING
MAKING known a pleasant piece of news, Mrs. Ida J. DeVinney and Mr. J. Freeman were guests of honor at a party last night when their engagement was announced to a large company of their close friends. Mrs. A. J. Collins of Pullerton, and Mrs. W. J. Liewellyn, of Anaheim, daughter of the bridge elect, were hostesses at the former home, with their husbands assisting.
The usual interesting games in which all guests may participate were played, interspersed with music of varied kinds. Later little Shirley Lewollyn appeared in the room in dainty, quilty dress, and passed a note to each person. The secret was revealed in the contents, and a demand for the missing pair went up. They were escorted into the room by the tiny granddaughter and her little friend, Evelyn Crowe, who had white ribbons about them in harness fashion. Of course they were delighted with happy wishes and congratulations, with inquiries as to the important date, etc. However, was not revealed. They were presented with a handsome cut glass flower basket filled with orchids and other choice blooms by the hosts and hostesses, which they accepted with pretty receptions of appreciation.
The Collins home was appropriately skimmed with hearts of all sizes, and hearts featured the super-appointments. The rooms were fragrant with their great clusters of sweet peas, carnations and other spring flowers.
The guests included the Meura and Meadames C. H. Collins, Hugh Estep and son, Chester; Arthur Moss, Y. Freeman; J. L. Freeman and sons Paulil and Noell, of Long Beach; Arthur Bloomer, and Warren and Emma La Habra; O. R. Freeman and Alta; Olive Sobnielk, Dr. and Mrs. H. G. Howe, and Shirley; E. H. Crowe and Evelyn,

PLACENTIA
PLACENTIA, April, V—(Spl.)
The Placentia C. of C., added and abetted by the secretary, Charles E. Lee, is putting Placentia on the map so forcefully in indelible ink that anyone professing not to know what and where Placentia is will be guilty of gross ignorance.
"Placentia, the Little Rich Town," has been growing steadily since its beginning, 15 years ago, but from now on the growth and improvements are coming so fast as to keep everyone moving to keep up with it.
The C. of C. has laid many plans and is working them out as fast as possible. One of the first foremost is the badly needed paving. This has already been started. Crowther-ave is now plowed and the boulevard being put in first class condition. The huge mixer and all the other necessary paraphenalia is on the ground and the men are at work.
Melrose-at is staked out, and this will probably be the next street to get attention. Griffith Co. of Los Angeles has the contract and all the streets are to be payed before 1923.
Police protection is another issue that is assured. Deputy Sheriff J. H. Murillo is now on duty here and anyone desiring to get in touch with him need only call 149-W. Placentia, where he can be reached at all hours. Deputy Sheriff Murillo has the reputation of being the bravest man on the county force. A short time ago he was called to West Santa Fe, where, unarmed, he succeeded in taking a loaded gun from a Mexican, who had shot at a comrade. So Placentia has the assurance that she will be amply protected with this brave man on the job.
The assurance of adequate police protection, good payed streets, a sanitary district, no possible scarcity of water, gas and electricity, good schools and unusual interesting games in guests may participate in, interspersed with muck kinds. Later little collynn appeared in the dirty, tight dress, and late to each person. The revealed in the condemnation for the misapprehension up. They were eschewed by the tiny older and her little brother and her little sister and her little brother and her little sister.

Home was appropriated with hearts of all hearts featured the supplements. The rooms with their great sweet peas, carnations spring flowers.

Extensive Corps Plan
The Women's Relief Corps meeting yesterday was full of interesting matters, and plans for extensive relief work were discussed. Each member is requested to make not less than three hot dish holders, and as many more as she chooses.
The Thrift committee will meet next Tuesday with Mrs. Mary Nyland, 705 North Olive in all day session and will improve the time with quilting. Mrs. Grace Taint donated the top end Mrs. Nyland the lining, so the ladies expect to soon have a beautiful quilt at very low cost. Mrs. Nyland will serve luncheon about noon, giving a short time for recreation and rest from the pleasant task of quilting.
The "Earn a Dollar" campaign has been set forward from October 6 for completion, as that is the anniversary of the corps organization. Under the patriotic instructor, Mrs. R.H. Horman a patriotic program will be presented and Mother's day also observed.
This order is less than one year old but has had remarkable growth and has more than made good in the line of work which its name designates, that of Relief corps.

written by Superintendent Glenn
A. Hiddlebarger. The facts are
gleaned from old record registers.
Among names found in these records
are many who are now prominent in community work in the
same district. There are many
also whose children are now attenting the Placentia school, altho
a much better and enthralled
one. And with the steady growth
of the town's population so has
the school kept pace with a growing and enlarging in buildings,
equipment and most important of
all, good teachers. A word must
here be said also for the
high school advantages to be had.
The Fullerton Union high school
records can show that a goodly
proportion of her students come
from Placentia. In connection
with the high school is a junior
college, where a boy or girl may
complete half of his or her college education and still live at home in Placentia.
Business in Placentia speaks for itself. Every kind of business is to be found within our city limits. Business carried on by up-to-date hustling, obliging, courteous men and women, merchants who strive to learn what the people want and to provide the very best at the lowest possible price. Many new and up-to-date business blocks have been built and more are to be built as demanded.
It is estimated that during the year 1923, the merchants of Placentia did a business of over one million, two hundred and fifteen thousand dollars. This does not include the clearings of the National and Sayings Bank nor the business of raising, picking, packing and marketing the golden fruit which is raised in such an abundance in this rich locality.
There are eight gas and oil stations in the Placentia district alone and the estimate is that they do a business of over $150,000 a year.
Placentia boasts a community church under the supervision of the presbytery of Los Angeles. It

has among its members former members of many different denominations who are all working together in unity for the spiritual and moral welfare of the communio.
The church is well organized; it maintains a growing Sunday school, a Christian Endeavor, or organizations for women and children and is thus meeting the needs of the community in an efficient and helpful manner. Dr. G. A. Manshard is the present pastor, who was called about a year ago.
There is one other church in our community, the Church of the Nazarene, located on North Melrose. This has a progressive Sunday school and membership. They are planning a new building in the near future as they have outgrown their present one. The present pastor in Rev. Josiah Tucker.
HELLO DIXIE
IT would be a kindness to tell the girl that you think she is being too much powder and rouge. Of course she might resent it if she have nothing more to do with you, but on the other hand you might respect your opinion enough to be a little more clumsy. Too much powder makes a girl ugly instigate of beautiful. Perhaps you might derood her the other night after she was indifferent when she really did not mean to be. As to see her again and you may find her in a different mood, however, you are convinced that she does not enjoy your company any longer, find another girl. The fact that she cannot cook means little. Many girls are not interested in domestic activities until after they are married.
THANK YOU: The girl's initial should be used.
Mabel and Bertha Robison caled on Mrs. C. A. Porter of Fulllerton Saturday.
