PAGE EIGHT UNITED THEATER, 206 E. Center TO-NITE MERCHANTS NITE "JANE EYRE" Shows 7 p.m., & 9 p.m. THURSDAY NIGHT RUBE MILLER AND HIS COUNTRY STORE WM. FAIRBANK'S IN "HELL'S BORDER" Last Opportunity to See Style Revue This Evening THAT the 1924 Style Revue increases in interest was demonstrated last evening by the capacity houses at both shows. The program was arranged in a manner convenient to the early patrons as well as the late comers, both seeing the entire exhibition. And the exhibition was unusually fine. From the dainty little morning frocks, a portion of the Sebastian Bros. showing; the smart togs from McDonald's; the rich beaded gowns from S. Q. R. store; the lovely evening gowns and gorgeous shawls from Mary Millerick Shop; the snuggy, luxurious wraps from J. E. Penney's; the up-to-the-minute showing of shoes from Hunt & Tellam, which was unlimited in cut and coloring, and the nifty hats from Freda's Hat Shop, every modeling was highly interesting. Not for a moment did the show become tiresome. Each exhibition had six assorted costume showings, announced by the dainty little maid, as well as by posters, in really metropolitan manner. The object of the fashion show, to convince Anaheim and community there is no occasion for going out of town for their apparel, was certainly well proven, for each of these storms displayed garments for every occasion and in every desired color and material. The picture, "Pleasure Mad," was an unusually fine one. Adrian McDowell's Dixie Syncopaters, composed of young men whose "middle name was Pep," must have been an inspiration to the dainty little toe dancer, her nimble feet and apparently boneless body making her as wax in the hands of her gentleman dancing partner. The stage setting, with the fine new back drop, used for the first time in the fashion show, was wonderfully pleasing. The furniture, lent by Stroup-Barnes, gave a home appearance to the stage. Those who have not seen the fashion show will have one more opportunity as the final revue will be presented this evening. The showing this afternoon was another successful one. Surely the efforts of Miss Elise Schuyler have been highly pleasing during her entire engagement and her memory of Anahelm will be exceeded in pleasure only by that of the memory of her audiences. PLAN 3 BATTLES AT JERSEY AREA By DAVIS J. WALSH (I. N. S. The feature picture will be a Hugo Ballin production, "Jane Eyre," from the great novel by Charlotte Brontë, with Mable Ballin and Norman Trevor. Hundreds were turned away last Wednesday night and a large crowd is looked for tonight. Come early if you wish a seat. The first performance starts at 7 o'clock and the second at 9. LADIES' NAIL DRIVING CONTEST Thursday night will be Country Store night at the United theatre and Rube Miller and his country store will be on hand, to give away flour, ham, groceries and fun galore. The special prizes will be a crystal radio set, from Jensen's Electric Shop, and a gentleman's cap from Cranmer's Clothing store. The ladies will be featured also on the program in a nail-driving contest and this will be very interesting as there are some good lady carpenters in this town who are sure to get a record at driving nails. William (Bill) Fairbanks in a wild and woolly west story, "Hell's Border," will be the feature picture. Manhad has paid Abe and good profits on suits below cost" and Abe Golds the only fighter who can Irish for Benny Leonard doing that very thing TITLES MAY FALL By DAVIS J. WALSH LN.S. Sports Editor NEW YORK, March 25.—Having taken a poll of conjecture and opinion among the great minds gathered at the national sports alliance dinner last night, the writer is in a position to state today that the titles of at least five fisticic champions are deemed to be in immediate danger. The common trot is that Joe Lynch's passing at the behest of one Abe Goldstein on Friday night was merely the forerunner of a stunnette. Goldstein himself being included in the doubled list. Of the champions now holding forth, only Jack Dempsey. Harry Greb and Kenny Leonard are that to be fully capable of surviving the wear and tear of the impending outdoor season, according to those approached last night. Starting from the bottom and working up a la Horatio Alger, the belief is common that Pancho Villa might be divorced from his world's flyweight title and first time he steps out with Frankie Genaro. The latter holds three decisions over Pancho the puncho and seems to be trifling with the Philippine lanna. Goldstein doesn't face much competition off-hand in the bantamweight division but opinion believes he has at least one candidate who figures to figure if given the chance. He is Bud Taylor. Carl Tremaine is also dangerous when he thinks he can win, and perhaps he may be persuaded to regard Goldstein with some degree of nonchalance. At any rate Abe saddle, as they say at the horse show, is none too secure. Johnny Dundee is away out in front of the featherweights at this immature moment but John is old and several times of late has given evidence of physical decalence. Perhaps by mild-summer, some bright young man will happen along the fisticic forgotten. We failed to include the name of Mickey Walker in the list of those virtually immune from danger but not because he is threatened by any man in his division. Walker stands supreme there, but if he so far forgets himself as to be with Leonard we are not prepared to answer for the consequences. Should Benny make a serious attempt to dethrone Walker he would be favored to win, although Mickey is no one's sap at that. Greb probably will be challenged by Jack Delaney, conqueror of Paul Berlenbach, but Harry should survive under a pull. He is too tough and would be too much for Delaney. This season has been ideal for the visiting big league ball teams. Last Sunday was about the oily day that a practice could not be crowded in. Down south the weather has been wet and cold and the teams training there have not had the chance that the teams have had here. The Cubs and Pirates will have the jump on the other nationals on account of the good weather here, and our climate will receive another big boost by our visitors when they reach home. So Calif., is the greatest place in the world to put the ball player into condition. There is less chance of cold weather here than anywhere. It may appear cold but the temperature is not low enough to cause the athletes to take cold in their muscles. Some of the players conditioning elsewhere spend the first few months of the playing season working soreness out of muscles caused by taking cold while in training. Next year there will be more of the big teams out here. Anaheim will shape up her park by moving the grand stand back and making room for the playing field, she may host to one of the young amateurs of players. It would be a big ad for our little city and one that there would not be any expense to. Free advertising is what we are looking for. Thirty or 40 hungry young athletes with good pay checks coming in is not to be sneezed at by any prosperous city. Now we have it that the great Jack Dempsey is not to fight till next January and who do you think his opponent will be—Harry Wilks? This is some guess stuff. O, yes, they were to fight at Ta Juana. At the same time we hear of a representative of Tex Rickard going to South America to confer with Firpo. It is understood that Firpo will be prevented upon to sign to fight Dempsey just once more before the Bull quite for good. Dempsey has a million dollar picture contract and does not care whether he lights or not. Firpo is the idol of the southland and can gather in the colin in many easy ways. Why a pill factory would give the Bull a fortune just to use his picture for an ad on their pill boxes. Gee, it's great to be born lucky! What's the use of brains? Abe Goldstein, who sounds like a clothing house proprietor, knocked The Best Boy's Suits in America Today "STRANGLER" LEWIS IS MARRIED AGAIN CHICAGO, March 26. — Ed ("Strangler") Lewis today followed his last night's successful defense of his world's wrestling championship title by slipping away from his friends and quietly marrying Miss Bessie McNear of Kansas City. The ceremony, performed at the little First Methodist Episcopal Church in the Loop, effectually spikes rumors of his engagement to Marie Traiyska, Russian princess familiar in Russian court circles before the bolshevist regime. This is Lewis' second matrimonial venture. AT THE HOTEL VALENCIA Lloyd Jones, P. D. Tabler, H. L. Jones, George J. Smith, E. C. Claysen, and C. W. Whitney, Los Angeles; R. M. Hawthorne, and F. J. ON THE SCREEN ed the bantam-weight title off the brow of Joe Lynch the other night. This is not the first time the Irish fell for the Jew. Many an Irish lad has paid Abe and his tribe good profits on suits bought "below cost" and Abe Goldstein is not the only fighter who can best the Irish for Benny Leonard has been doing that very thing for years. When a Hebrew takes to the ring and puts his soul into ring work he is usually a hard customer for the Irish to lick, for Mr Hebrew is nearly always very clever while the Irish are mostly just fighters with a love for the game and ability to give and take punishment. Abe, the new bantam chap, has had a very hard row to hoe in gaining his high station. It took many hard knocks and reverses for him to become champion but now that he has reached the top he stands a very good show of remaining there for several years, though the lighterweights are being developed much more rapidly than the heavies. Watch the cards along the coast and nine tenths of the participants are below the 150 pound mark. The big lumbering boys do not draw, therefore the heavy weights have little chance to develop.
