S. senate won't pass the present bonus measure, recently voted by the house, in the opinion of William P. Webb, Jr., prominent legion man. Even if it does, the bill represents merely a shifting of the obligation to the veterans upon the shoulders of the next generation, while the old provided is mere hoothing, said Webb. The veterans are to be given cash or its equivalent in a paid up insurance policy, the amount of which is three and one-eighth times the sum represented in pay at $1.25 per day of service abroad or $1 per day of domestic service. The maximum latter sum is $625, so that the average total amount will not be more than $1000, according to Webb. "They might as well hand each man two-bits apiece and forget about the bonus question," said Webb. Much more practicable and substantial aid is being given by the state in the farm and home act, whereby loans for homes are being provided, the disabled being given first preference. Webb estimates that approximately 500 men in Anaheim and vicinity will benefit if the bonus bill is passed.
