MINISTER OFFERS CHURCH DANCING OAKLAND, March 20.—Answering Oakland ministers who criticized him for conducting dancing exhibitions and boxing bouts in connection with church services, Dr. Leroy Cosper of the Christian Philosophical Church said today he not only proposed continuing the "entertainment features" but that "added attractions" were planned. "Next Sunday I'm going to have Russian ballet dancing, featuring two girls, and also a physical culture stunt," Dr. Cosper declared. "The following Sunday I will have boxing, dancing and exercises combined in the program with the church service." "Jesus Christ," Dr. Cosper said today, "was the first famous physical culturist and it was thru his trained mental and body action that Christ was able to do his work." "When Christ fasted forty days, he did it for his body's sake," said the Oakland minister. "Jesus went thru certain physical exercises daily because he taught, as he believed, that the key to mental or mind understanding was thru physical well-being. "Jesus cured without medicine and that's what I am preaching today. These boxing bouts, these dances and the physical culture demonstrations are to cure bodily illies and wrongs to the end that mind truths may come to the affected. Mind rules over the body but the body must be physically fit to receive the teachings of the mind. "Mental action goes hand in hand with bodily action. Watching the programs at our church shows that mind and body must work together to bring success in life in any field. This is just Christ's own teachings." Dr. Cosper said what other ministers thought about his church programs didn't interest him. He was formerly located at Los Angeles and San Francisco and at one time resided in Erie, Pa. Man is unruly And hard to please; He harbors rats To curse their fleas. SOUL OF WOMAN PLACED ON RAIL SAN DIERO, March 20.—Soul of a woman was put on rack and torn to shreds when attorneys for E. District Attorney Kempley has promised that new and sensational evidence would be introduced by the state—evidence, he declares, which will prove the state's case despite the fact that no body has been found, and that circumstantial evidence only can be adduced. Montebello Woman 100 Years Old Today MONTEBELLO, March 20.—Hundreds of residents of Montebello joined today in the celebration of the 100th birthday of Mrs. Elizabeth Goodrich. Mrs. Goodrich, who wears her hair bobbed and is as lively as persons many years her junior, has three rules for reaching the century mark. They are: Work hard outdoors. Don't forget to play. Never lose your temper. FAMOUS TWINS SEEN IN BIG FILM One of the finest collections of twins' clothes is owned by Dick and Harry Lee, famous twins who will be seen in "On the Banks of the Wabash," a J. Stuart Blackton special production, at the United Theater on Friday and Saturday. Dick and Harry play the roles of Eph and Cy Clark, twin brothers who own a grocery store in Cranberry Corners, the small Indiana town typical of those found along the banks of the Wabash River. Dick and Harry have more than a thousand suits in their collection of duplicate garments. They have exact copies of all types of clothes from the cantaway garb of the hobo to imperial uniforms. These garments they gathered during years of service on the stage and screen. The Lees are the best known twins in dramatic circles and have played in practically every important play or film that called for the use of male twins. At an early age they began their joint career by running away from home and going with the old Barnum and Bailey circus. After three years of this life, they went into vaudeville with an act of their own. Then they were drawn to the legitimate stage and to the screen where their success has been appreciable. J. Stuart Blackton, who directed "On the Banks of the Wabash" was faced with considerable difficulty in identifying the brothers. Frequently, when he came to make a scene, he would mistake Harry for Dick and would indicate which of the brothers he vice versa. Finally, he gave up in despair, wanted by asking them which one really belonged in the scene as called for by the script. "On the Banks of the Wabash" is based upon the famous song by Paul Dresser and renders on the screen a tribute to the genius of the author and the people of Indiana who he glorified in his song. "On the Banks of the Wabash" is based upon the famous song by Paul Dresser and renders on the screen a tribute to the genius of the author and the people of Indiana who he glorified in his song. "On the Banks of the Wabash" is a story of life in a typical American town, where petty rivalries, unrequited love and jealousies and hate and romance rise fiercely only to be tempered in the end. A tremendous storm scene a rescue by an old stern-wheeler of the residents of Cranberry Corners, from flood and a fire bring the photoplay to a dramatic close. Mary Carr, Burr McIntosh, James Morrison, Lumsden Hare, Mary MacLaren and Evans are in the all-star cast. CYPRESS CYPRESS, March 20 (Sp.) — Priddy & Schonece are now located in their new office and are cozy as a "bug in a rug." Cigar are being passed out to any visitors. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Blythe were in Los Angeles on a flying business visit yesterday. Mrs. Emma Stuart has begun the erection of a home on her newly purchased lot in Cypress Home Gardens. A valuable airdale dog was stolen from E. M. Nutt, who is offering a $10 reward for its recovery. While he admits a dog thief is not worth much, he is also willing to pay well for his "recovery." An epidemic of dog stealing seems to have hit the thriving town, as several others have been reported. Discussion by C. of C. directors cr. plans for most effective activity were followed by appointment of six committees, viz: a boulevard committee, to co-operate with other towns in securing the Los Angeles-Santa Ana boulevard paralleling the P.E. right-of-way; one to attend to placing signs of welcome to the thriving city of Cypress, both on the east and the west side of town; another to attend the A.C. of C. banquet in Santa Ana, and another to secure the speaker for the next regular meeting. For the regular meeting, which falls upon the third Tuesday night of April, a refreshment committee and a program committee were selected. It was decided that expense for future refreshments will be taken from the C. of C. treasury. The committee serving at the last meeting was highly complimented, as well as those who go...
