CHICKSAN GETS
700-BBL. WELL
By E. J. MUNGER
One of the smallest operators in the field led the producers at Torrance this past week for big production. The Chicksan Oil Co. completed its first and only well and got a 700-barrel producer. The Chicksan producer was finished at 3780 feet and is making a 20 gravity product that is going to the Standard Oil Co.
Win. McMahon a private operator came next with a producer on Marionne Avenue that netted better than 600 barrels. The McMahon well at 3775 feet is one of the best producers the Narbonne Avenue section of the Torrance field has produced and lends a lot of encouragement to future development.
The Four Drillers Contracting Company has completed its first contract well in the Torrance field. The Four Drillers well was completed for J. W. Peyton, a Pasadena man at 3765 feet and came in a 650-700 barrel well. An innovation in the way of finishing up a producer was initiated by the Four Drillers Contracting Company with the installation of heavy drill stem pipe for an oil string instead of the usual perforated and slotted caring. The Four Drillers put in 250 feet of Colb Slotted pipe five eights of an inch thick. The extra heavy oil string is expected to withstand collapsing and outwear any other type of oil string. Many producers are soon halted after being brittle in by oil string troubles and the heavy pipe will lengthen the life of the well and cut down the cost of production.
The Doheny interest at Torrance continue to develop successful production. During the past week a 550 barrel well was completed on the Petroleum Securities holdings. In the few short months that Doheny has been operating at Torrance he has developed 2500 barrels. The feature

Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hodson were hosts to the members of the Beveran class Monday evening. A short business session was held, games were played and a delicious repast served afterward. Those to enjoy the hospitality of the Hodson home, were Mr. and Mrs. L. Nicklin, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Ridgeway, Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Lawner, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Proud, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Scheupbach, Mrs. W. Gutzaw, and Mr. and Mrs. T. W. La Monte.
Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Pickering, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Pickering of Whittier, enjoyed a motor trip to San Diego and the Imperial valley the last of the week. The trip was made to the southern city by way of the coast route coming back by Holtville where they visited friends. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Brown. An overnight stop was also made at Palm Springs.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Robertson of Huntington Beach were dinner guests at the W. E Robertson home on Florence ave., Saturday.
Mrs. J. B. Chaffey entertained in honor of her son Bennie's birthday anniversary at their home Saturday evening. Games music and a general good time was enjoyed by this group of young people that have had a number of gatherings at their parents homes during the winter. After the games delicious refreshments were served. Included in the guest list were Misses Pauline Crumrine, Doris Louise, and Helen Field, Marie Webel and Carolyn White; Clifford Nutt, Louis Linsdey, John Roberts and the honoree Bennie Chaffey.
Mrs. William Crawford entertained the Two U's club at her home on Lemont at Tuesday. The members enjoyed themselves with needlework and visiting. During the afternoon a musical program was given by members of the club
The Doheny interest at Torrance continue to develop successful production. During the past week a 550 barrel well was completed on the Petroleum Securities holdings. In the few short months that Doheny has been operating at Torrance he has developed 2500 barrels daily production. The feature of the development work at Torrance this past week was the starting a large number of new wells. The Chanslor-Canfield Midway led the operators list by starting seven new wells. On account of the heavy development program started the Chanslor-Canfield Oil Company finds itself unable to carry on the entire list of drilling wells and has placed six of them out to contractors. The Federal Drilling Co. and the Rodgers-Edwards Drilling Company were the successful bidders for the wells. Both Drilling Companies have been very successful in other fields. Pitted against each other at Torrance the rivalry will be keen for accuracy and results.
The hope for the development of a deep sand in the Torrance field get a jolt when W. M. Keek stepped his No. 13 well on the northeast front of the field at close to 4700 feet. It is understood that nothing that would encourage continued drilling was found and now the deep test well is to be plugged back in the hope of picking up commercial production in the upper zone. The Bush-Voorhis Oil Company's Fee No. 1 the well that will try out the central east section of the field has not reached 4000 feet as yet and is not deep enough for comment. It seems that geologists and petroleum engineers have doped the Torrance field as impossible geologically for a deep sand and they may have the correct information on the field in Southern California with the exception of the old Salt Lake field near Los Angeles did not show more than an upper production sand.
The output of the Torrence field stays around 28,000 barrels and no increases of importance are expected now unless a deep sane is found. The hope of the field rests as it appears now in the development of production of the east end of the field where the Standard and Shell Co. are bringing in six and seven hundred barrel wells.

The rooms were beautifully decorated in large baskets of colorful spring blossoms, Jonquils predominating. These blossoms were used on the score cards and "500" and Mah Jongg were played. Mrs. J. A. Small won high score. Dainty refreshments were served at the small tables. The hostesses were assisted by Mrs. Mary Channing and Miss Thornton of Whittier.

Louis Harwood is still quite ill, suffering from double pneumonia and complications.
In the recent suit of George Englesby versus the P. E. Railway Co., the Englesbys were awarded $1000 damages. They have much sympathy of a number of friends in that the jury did not see fit to give them more. The accident happened in June of last year when Mrs. Englesby alighted from the car at La Habra. Mrs Englesby has been in very poor health since that time and the award will not pay the expense due to the incident.

Threatened Crime Career Cut Short
Watving their preliminary examination, Norman Anderson, 20, so-called "lovelorn bandit," and J. Chanchala, 19, were today in the county jail under $2,000 bail each, having been held for trial late yesterday by Justice J. B. Cox on a charge of highway robbery.
Anderson, who told officers he deliberately chose a career of crime when jilted by his sweet-heart, a San Pedro girl, and exhibited an unmalfled letter to the girl, telling her the same thing was arrested with Chanchala while executing the first move of his new profession, it was alleged.
The career of crime, it was said, lasted from Westminster where the two youghs were alleged to have held up J. L. Beaudette, Huntington Beach motorist, until they reached Tustin, where deputy sheriffs overtook them.

With the taking over of the Home Oil Co.'s property by the Lindard Oil Co., interest in the deep sand development has been greatly increased in the old Whittier field. Ride-ut Heights' startling discoveries of few months ago have made the Home Oil Co.'s holdings look very good and the Standard Oil Co.'s work in the development of the old field for deep sand production will be watched with real interest.
Montebello is scheduled for a revival of development when the Reppetto Hills Oil Co. drills out the cement Thursday and tries out the well for a production. The Reppetto Hills well was drilled to a depth of 3810 feet by the Trail-Cormler Drilling Co. and from 3600 to 3800 the drilling company claims some splendid showings for the well and have reason to believe that they have a producer.
