A large detachment of marines will probably be sent to Tegucigalpa, capital of Honduras, to protect American citizens and nationals of other governments, who have taken refuge at the American legislation, it was learned officially here. Rebel forces have succeeded in capturing practically all of the cities adjacent to Tegucigalpa and are now massing their forces for an attack on the capital. Tegucigalpa has a large American population. It was said that practically all of the foreigners in Tegucigalpa have turned to the American authorities for protection. Under the Monroe Doctrine, it was pointed out, the U.S. government assumes theoretical responsibility for the safety of foreigners in South American countries inasmuch as other powers never land military forces there. Already several Honduran citizens have been killed in spasmodic street fighting that has broken out in the capital in the last week and rebel forces in the city will soon be reinforced by troops under General Ferrera who is leading the attack on the city. With three American battleships in Honduran waters—two on the north coast and one on the south coast—and with marine detachments at Celba and Puerto Cortez and a strong consular guard at Tegucigalpa, it is felt that the lives of Americans will amply safeguarded and that the presence of the U.S. marines may influence the warring political parties to come to an agreement. BUENA PARK BIG CROWD AT TRACT OPENING Buena Park was besieged by the biggest crowd that ever filled the town in its entire history last Sunday. Fifteen hundred people made it their objective between the hours of 2 and 5 in the afternoon. The occasion was the opening of Homewood, the new and beautiful development of Buena Park. The owners of Homewood, Messy and Blades, had been advertising free gifts of five cabinet phonographs valued at $175 each, during the last few weeks. One of the conditions was that holders of tickets should attend opening day. Unquestionably the rain kept away many thousands. They took it in very good part, however. Mr. Blades said: "I hope with my heart and soul it rains for days. I don't care what we lose; I don't care if we don't get a single person here; if it will only rain. We have plenty of time to sell the balance of our tract, but our neighbors need rain. Let it rats." Maskey and Blades are for Orange co., first and all the time, no matter what they lose personally. They are good men to have with us, folks. The phonographs were given away at 3 p.m. after a very entertaining lecture on "Opportunities for Making Money in California Real Estate." These are the recipients of the five beautiful phonographs: John Newbold, 748 North Olive st., Anaheim; E. A. Roderick, rural route No. 3, Anaheim; Mrs. Lockridge, 619 Bills lane, Fullerton; Charles Crump, Hawthorne; John F. Nohr, 512 East Seyamore st., Anaheim. Some dozens of people missed getting phonographs thru not being with the tract. There were about 20 names called out by the lecturer from Garden Grove addresses. Not one was present. Any one of these could have taken a valuable phonograph. The same thing occurred in relation to Anaheim, Santa Ana, Fullerton and other towns.
