Problems are threshed out in round table pow-wows, like the one shown here, among those present in this instance being Ramsay MacDonald and three aides who have just become members of his cabinet, Arthur Henderson, J. R. Clynes and Sidney Webb. Henderson is a retary for home affairs, Clyne lord of the privy seal, and W is president of the board trade. The photo was taken before MacDonald was named premier.

Pauline and Anna Ferger and their stepmother, Mrs. Josephine Ferger.
Psychoanalists are unable to find in photos of the face of Mrs. Josephine Ferger, New York woman, evidences of the strain of cruelty charges, proved against her in court, indicate she possesses. She was found guilty of having branded her two step-daughters, Anna and Pauline Ferger, 9 and 6 years old, respectively, with a hot iron "because they told lies." She gave the court a faultless story of how the branding was "accidental." The scars were exhibited by the little girls.
WONDER IF FINE APRONS MAKE FINE COOKS?
WONDER IF FINE APRONS MAKE FINE COOKS?
Fine aprons may not make the cooking any better but they do make the cook look pretty, and that helps some. On the left is a pretty porch apron and it might be made from cretonne or any other pretty flowered material. Blue chambray is used to fashion another charm one in the center. At the end is a new afternoon gown of de chino.

ATLEE POMERENE
Atlee Pomerene, Democrat, former Ohio colleague of Harding in the senate, and now a practising lawyer in Cleveland, has taken up the work of preparing the government's case in the oil lease scandal with Silas Strawn. The former senator was named as special counsel by President Coolidge after Thomas W. Gregory, former attorney general, resigned because of the embarrassing position in which he was placed by testimony of Edward L. Doheny, oil magnate, showing that Mr. Gregory had once been counsel for the Dolheny interests.

FIVE CLUBS DECIDE LOU'S A COMER
BUT HE WILL WARM BENCH FOR YEAR
Two views of Lou Gehrig.
One of the most versatile and promising players brought up from the minors in recent years—his followers say—is sentenced to warm the bench with the New York Yankees this season. That is, unless the present situation changes. Gehrig can play the outfield, first and even pitch. The Yanks realize he is a coming star. They decided last fall he needed a year's seasoning in the miners, however, and have tried several times to get waivers on him. The last time five clubs put in claims for him. Rather than turn him over to some other club Huggins will hang onto him.
VARIETY IN STYLE IS THE SEASON'S WATCHWORD
VARIETY IN STYLE IS THE SEASON'S WATCHWORD
Two overblouses and a one-piece afternoon frock constitutes the models illustrated today. On the left is a chenille cloth overbloom. It is long and belltless and has a little vest in a light contrasting color with edging of same on Dutch collar, cuffs and bottom band.
The popular plaid is illustrated in red and blue in the overblouse shown in the center. This is a blousy model, with hip band, cuffs and trimming on the collar of plain dark material.
A one-piece afternoon frock is shown on the right. It is fashioned of black satin. A graceful use of ruffles makes the front of the skirt distinctive. The fullness at the side back is caught with a buckle. Sleeves are long, the cuffs coming well over the hand. An ideal hostess gown.
