INDIANS IN U. S.
GAIN IN RICHES
WASHINGTON, Feb. 15.—Contrary to popular belief, the Indian population in the United States is increasing, rather than falling off, according to figures made public here today by Chan, H. Burke, U. S. commissioner of Indian affairs, in his annual report to Secretary of the Interior Work.
The population of the Indians in the United States, exclusive of Alaska, is now 344,893. Burke said, compared with 340,917 in 1922. The present population is an increase of 13,664 since 1913.
The total value of the individual and tribal property of American Indians at the close of the last fiscal year on June 30 was placed at $1,010,870,519, a gain of $283,124,122 over the preceding year and $343,939,256 more than in 1913. In the total for June 20, 1923, it included the value of oil, gas, coal and other minerals estimated at $250,000,-060.
Educational activities among the Indians were stressed by Commissioner Burke. He said the number of eligible Indian children not in school was reduced by more than 5900 during the year, while special attention is given to home economy and home building by special pervisors.

YORBA LINDA
YORBA LINDA, Feb. 15. (Spl.)
The Yorba Liana Woman's club held their regular meeting on Tuesday in the club rooms. The meeting took the form of a birthday party as the club was 12 years old on that day. Mrs. Hileman had charge of the luncheon and with her efficient co-workers served a delicious menu. There were four tables, each centered with purple and gold iris, these colors being the club colors, and violets and yellow accents were used in profusion over the rooms. One of each of the following letters, was on each table, Y. L. W. C. and after Mrs. M. Quagley who had charge of the program, had lit the 12 candles on the birthday cake, one lady from each table gave a toast as follows: Y for yesterday by Mrs. M. A. Quigley who is a charter member of the club. L for loyalty by Mrs. Frank Rosewalt, W for womanhood by President Mrs. S. W. Acker, and C for corporation by Mrs. A. W. Miller. It was much regretted that there was not a larger attendance as a program followed that was much enjoyed. This included two solo dances by dalty Marlys Johnson of Fullerton, dressed in costume, and vocal solos by Mrs. Howard of Olinda, given very pleasingly. Mrs. E. E. Knight, county president, was presented a bin of the general federation, by the executive board of the local club in appreciation of her gift of a membership of the local club to the general federation. Mrs. M. A. Quigley, who is leaving soon for her new home near Riverdale was presented with a pretty piece of china. The meeting was presented a splendid success by all those attending.
The Y. L. Bridge club of young matrons held their regular meeting at the home of Mrs. H. R. Brown, on Tuesday afternoon. The day being warm, the tables were placed on the seagrass porch and after several games, prizes were awarded Mrs. C. H. Elschler, first, Mrs. B. M. Kuehler, second, Fred Nelson, with R., Clapp of Log Cabin fruit stand; B. Clapp, Santa Ana, and Sam Clapp, Huntington Beach, returned Wednesday evening from a week's business and pleasure trip to Clear Lake, Lake Co., 599 miles from Anaheim. Nelson went there in the interest of the Clear Lake Highland, Inc. They made the trip in two days and report good roads all the way.
There is plenty of fish in this region had the season is open the year around. Quali hunting is excellent. The oil prospects are particularly good and there is plenty of gas for both cooking and lighting purposes.
The motorists state that the scenery is very enjoyable and different from this part of the country. One of the most interesting sights was the rock formation that floats like a piece of wood on the lake. It is volcanic. The lake is about 25 miles long.

Could Not Wait on the People
On my opening day from early morning until late at night, my new store was crowded. I simply couldn't wait on them. Wanted an opportunity to talk with each customer personally and take all measures myself, but that was impossible. I am pleased with the splendid business I received and thank you all heartily for such cordial welcome as I received.
