REAL ESTATE AND PARK LIGHTS ARE NEARLY COMPLETED Will Cost Under $1000 to Move Grand Stand Says Steward It will cost considerably less than $1000 to move the grandstand in the city park to a new site, according to City Manager O. E. Steward, even including the expense of abolishing the old plumbing connections and making the new ones. This improvement is only one of several yet to be made. Another is the erection of two comfort stations, which will be advertised on Feb. 14, according to Steward. No cement walks will be laid in the park, but all will be real gravel walks, according to the city manager. Within two weeks the laying of the conduits preparatory to completing the lighting system in the park will be finished. All pools, etc., have been completed. West of the plunge, the opening of which has been delayed by the failure of plumbing facilities Building Permits Aggregate $176,000 Valuation of building permits today had risen to $176,467, with the likelihood of several thousands more being added today and tomorrow, when the month closes. Homes, homes and more homes, together with additions, improvements and outlying buildings such as garages, feature the January permits. The total mentioned compares with $143,482 in December. CONTROVERSY IN WATER CO. ENDED The affairs of the West Anaheim Water Co. now are in smooth condition again, and another successful year appears to be in store, with the granting of a permit by the state corporation commissioner to sell 150 shares of the new issue of stock at $10 per share. The controversy was over the question whether the company had the right to issue the stock without the authorization of the state railroad commission, and the attorney-general some time ago decided that it had this right. The other 34 shares are being held in the treasury. The stock was issued to pay for a well, put down three years ago, and the quarrel had been going on ever since. The company has 350 acres, for which it provides the water for irrigation, all of it located in the EXTEND CITY TRADING AREA Thousands of Acres Around Anaheim Could Be Profitably Farmed Some months ago A. A. Brock county horticultural commissioner declared in an interview with a Plain Dealer man at Santa Ana that much of the land about Anaheim then planted to beets could be changed to citrus culture. Now come Farm Advisor H. J. Wahlberg with the statement that once it is determined what sections have and where haven't oil, several thousand acres of land can be improved for agricultural purposes in the vicinity of Stanton and Cypress. Both improvements of course are of vital interest to Anaheim as the shopping and banking town of this whole area. Much of this land isn't used all, while still more is planted crops like alfalfa which aren't profitable as certain other crops. Lack of water and too mud sand or alkali are the principals obstacles in the way of improvies. LIGHT HEARING, JAN. 31 January 31 has been set for the hearing on the proposed extension of lighting facilities on Center and Los Angeles streets City Manager O. E. Steward announces. HOMEWOOD TRACT DRAWING CROWDS With the proposed widening of Grand ave. Buena Park, to 80 feet for a distance of half a mile, the Homewood tract at Buena Park is attracting much attention among investors. This section is declared by the A. B. C. Sales Co. to possess a unique location. "Near-by are Brea oil wells with activity, just commencing again. Not far away is the industrial district of Fullerton which will be in the near future a thriving home of many factories. Homewood itself will have its industrial annex. Eighty acres have been set aside for this purpose." "Homewood may be paid to exist between oil and oranges." From one side, exemplified in the oil wells and tanks on the eastern border, it will draw its share of liquid gold—oil that makes this district fabulously wealthy. From the other side, golden orange groves, it will not only draw its portion of wealth but will share the delights of the glorious orange blossoms—fragrant and beautiful—that make this section of California so delightful to live in. This then is Homewood, better than any sub-division now on offer in the whole of California not only because of the exceptional investment opportunity it affords now, but because it is an ideal homeplace where you will be happy and proud to live and rear your children." SURVIVES YOUTHFUL FOLLY MORRISTOWN, O., Jan. 28—David Tracy here a few days ago ate apples from a tree from which he picked fruit 60 years ago. Tracy said the only difference in taste was that, as a youngster, he ate the apples while they were green. LOST Millions of Dollars in Oil Speculation! We have an investment to offer you that is now paying 4% Monthly on our common stock Over the question whether the company had the right to issue the stock without the authorization of the state railroad commission, and the attorney-general some time ago decided that it had this right. The other 34 shares are being held in the treasury. The stock was issued to pay for a well, put down three years ago, and the quarrel had been going on ever since. The company has 250 acres, for which it provides the water for irrigation, all of it located in the West Anaheim section, and there are some 45 stockholders. Its two wells have a combined capacity of approximately 300 miners inches per day. Unless steps have been taken to prevent reinfection, getting rid of one's hookworms does not stop the evil. As in all communicable diseases, prevention is better than cure, and the prevention of hookworm disease means the abolishment of soil pollution. $1500 LICENSE TAXES UNPAID With approximately $1500 occupational license fees still uncollected by the city, according Fred S. Perry, including the fee for all but very few of the residents connected with the Anaheim Realty Board, the opposition to the fee appears to be still active. Perry and City Clark Ed Morritt made it clear today, speaking for the city administration, that the changes in the law were minor and of little importance. The include: Requirement that the fee must be paid every six months at the city hall instead of being collected from the occupations affected at places of occupation every three months; inclusion of many new occupations and an extra heavy tax for certain classes of "doctors." Professionals are assessed at the rate of $1.00 per month and businesses $1.50, but "doctors" often than those named in the list which follows have to pay at the rate of $3.00 per month. The new occupations mentioned in the amendment to the ordinance are: Architect, assay师 at law, auditor and accountant, chemist, chiropedist, engineer civil, electrical, chemical and mechanical, chiropractor, dentist, optician, optometrist, oculist catopath or osteopathist, physician surgeon, sign painter and veterinary. The realists, whose objection to the tax is based mainly upon the fact of the State license fee which they have to pay, are not in a numerous position as dentists who are licensed by the state, county and city. The tax of $3.00 on healers-various sorts is meant to put LOST Millions of Dollars in Oil Speculation! He adds that this may be sold to be a record since it has been offered only about a fernnight and the formal opening sale has not taken place yet. Realtors Would Display Local Products for Visiting Tourists Orange county may have an exhibit of fruits, nuts and vegetables, besides pictures, at the Los Angeles C. of C. if plans which the Anaheim Reality Board decided to initiate today bear fruit. The board, after hearing remarks by Judge J. S. Howard, who today saw Former Manager McDonald of the exhibit, voted to take up the matter with other boards and C. of C.'s. The exhibit would be paid for by the county, and other reality boards and the county C. of C will be interviewed on the subject. Judge Howard declared that Anaheim hadn't been getting its share of the tourists entering the southland, and suggested this as a means of doing so. Anaheim initiated the former exhibit, according to Howard. The exhibit was given up in February, 1921, when McDonald became ill and was obliged to resign.
