BARS TO RAISE AS NEAR CLOSE
Warning that the one-year period in which allens who served the United States in the world war and received honorable discharges case secure citizenship without meeting many of the ordinary naturalization requirements was received today by County Clerk J. M. Backs from Raymond J. Crist, U.S. commissioner of naturalization. The one-year period was to begin when the last of the American troops had returned from Germany.
The last doughboy was home March 3, 1923, so that the one-year period ends March 3, 1924. After March 3, 1924, allen veterans must meet former requirements.

HUSBAND REPEATS WIFE'S CONFESSION
CHICAGO, Jan. 25.—Expectant court spectators attracted by the unusual combination of church figures and sensational divorce case developments today awaited eagerly the testimony of Mrs. Charlotte Leland and her own revelation of the charges of intimacy her husband has hurled at the Rev. Carl D. Case and Mrs. Leland has admitted were true.
Despite her collapse after the long day in court yesterday when her husband in a six-hour recital repeated his wife's confessions, naming the pastor of the fashionable First Baptist Church of Oak Park, Mrs. Leland insisted that she be permitted to take the stand today and with her own words bear out her husband's charges.
She shares, she admitted, the passionate purpose Leland voiced in a voice wracked with emotion, before he left the stand:
"I consider it my duty to my faith as a Christian and to my creed as a Baptist to drive such men as Case out of the church. He must not be given another chance to do to other men and women as he has done to me and my wife."
The plain-appearing woman, apparently the home-body sort, whispered quietly "yes, that's it," as her husband made this announcement of his purpose and denunciation of the pastor.
Case himself was to follow Mrs. Leland on the stand, if her recital was finished today.
TRAINS POSSUM
Driving through Black Star canyon beyond Orange county park, W. E. Ralph of Anaheim picked up a young possum, which had become blinded by the lights of the machine. Ralph is tanning it and expects to have it as a pet in his car, the same as a dog.

SENT TO COUZENS
WASHINGTON, Jan. 25.—A chapter was written today on now famous Mellon-Couzens tax correspondence concerning merits of the tax reducation which the secretary of treasury has proposed.
Another letter to Senator Adams, Republican of Michigan fourth in as many weeks—Mellon described Senator Adams' reasoning process as "unique" and reiterated his contention that American business is being mulcted and retarted by the present sur-taxes on big incomes.
Mellon completely ignored, however, Couzens' recent challenge to reveal the extent of his personal wealth and disclose how much he personally would profit by the reduction of these sur-taxes he has proposed.

ARMY HEAD HITS
LABOR "DOLE"
LONDON, Jan. 25.—Tens of thousands of Britishers are learning to live without work, according to Salvation Army General Booth.
This, he says, is not by choice, but because of a job shortage and the labor dole. He estimates 206,000 boys of working age are idle. The condition, he declares, is leading to "moral decline and a mischievous influence over all alike."
