NICK HARRIS ON SCOUTS PROGRAM Orange boys scouts and their friends are keenly looking forward to the great rally to be held in Santa Ana high school auditorium Friday evening where eagle badges will be presented as is the custom every three months, according to announcement made by Leon O. Whitsell, chairman of the county court of honor, today. Friends of scouting everywhere are cordially invited to attend this great program and while it is a real boys' program, at the same time it is going to be of interest to everyone who loves a good, clean evening's entertainment. The program will include several numbers by the Santa Ana Rotary Boys' Band under the direction of S. J. Mustol, and then Nick Harris, the famous detective, will appear in person with that famous trunk which he has captured during his career, and he will give a demonstration and talk. The Eagle Badges will then be awarded. The evening will be closed with a feature picture put out by the Pacific Film Co. of Culver City. This picture, "The Lone Star Patrol," features a group of airmen who were members of the Lafayette Esquadrille and all won their ace medals during the recent war. The program promises to be of an especially high character throughout. You may swallow your tonics And your pills all you please; But an ounce of prevention Beats a bushel of these. DINES TRYING TO PROTECT “MATES” LOS ANGELES, Jan. 24.—Courtland S. Dines' "lapse of memory" when his testimony was taken at the Good Samaritan Hospital recently in the preliminary hearing of Horace A. Greer, chauffeur for Mabel Normand, who shot him on New Year's night, was the result of Dines' often-expressed desire to protect his two "playmates," Miss Normand and Miss Purviance, it was charged at the district attorney's office today. The prosecuting attorneys asserted Dines is extremely anxious to "forget the whole business" not only for the inconvenience it might cause him, but to protect the two actresses and save them from appearing as witnesses in court. SILVERADO MINE LOOKS PROMISING Development work in No. 7 tunnel of the Silverado Mines is progressing nicely, it was report- ed yesterday at the meeting of stockholders. About 150 feet must be made to reach the large ore shoots which show above. This No. 7 tunnel is a drift. To cut those ore shoots 760 feet lower than the upper workings. Expert mining men give the company much encouragement; feeling certain that the completion of this tunnel will make one of the greatest mines in Calif. It looks very favorable, and the company feels confident that within 90 days the ore body will be cut and the grade of ore at this level should be much higher in both gold and silver than at the top. This should add a great and valuable asset to Orange-co. You go to bed loaded— On barbecued veal; And, Oh, in the morning.
