Miscellaneous VENIZELOS RAPS EXILE OF KING ATHENS, Jan. 16. — Premier Elutherios Venezelos is opposed to the banishment of King George II of Greece, but will not recall him unless there is a plebiscite which results in favor of recall, he announced today. "I disapprove vigorously the banishment of the king and believe it was carried out contrary to the wishes of the Greek nation," declared the premier in the first interview he has given to the press since his return from Paris. "But I am not a dictator, I cannot recall George. The only wise solution is a plebiscite which I intend to arrange. The validity of the present nationalist assembly is undeniable but it should be dissolved within three months after modification of several articles in the constitution making them applicable either to a republic or a monarchy." I am deeply touched over the resignation of diplomatic relations between Greece and England which have been in abeyance so long. It will add to our national pride. Greece will carry out to the better the terms of the treaty of Japanne, hoping in this way to better our relations with Turkey." Premier Venezilos exchanged cordial relations of animity with the premier of Jugo-Slavia and Turkey. Cheer up, Mr. President. The Lord himself couldn't write a message that would please everybody.—Red Bluff News. Try a Plain Dealer Want Ad NEW TODAY FOR RENT — Furnished 4-room house. Inquire 122 W. Cypress. WANTED — Small Home for Spot Cash; Anaheim or Fullerton. See Baumann or Ford, with Harry E. Scott, 128 E. Center st. SUES RAILROAD BEATRICE, Neb., Jan. 16. John Morgan, formerly of Beatrice, instituted suit in district court here today against the So. Pac. R. R. Co. for $100,000 damages. Morgan set forth in his petition that last June, while riding in a truck near Roscoe, Calif., he was struck by the Owl express, crack S. P. train between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The flyer, Morgan alleges, gave no warning of its approach. An unusual feature of the action is the fact that Morgan filed attachment proceedings against the three railroads going through Beatrice, on the ground that they have business relations with the Southern Pacific. TWO RAILROADS TAXED $9,000,000 SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 16. As the result of a decision federal court here today, the state of California will collect nearly $9,000,000 in taxes from the So. Pac. and Santa Fe railroads. U. S. Dist. Judge F. S. Deltrich upheld the validity of the King's tax bill passed by the 1921 session of the legislature, which raised the taxes of the steam railroads and other public utilities from 51-2 per cent to 7 per cent. Most of these are favorably leased with cash rental to responsible oil companies. Priced at what the places are actually worth as acreage or groves. If oil is found in this territory, and many responsible and experienced oil men believe it will be, it would take a bank roll as big as a hale of hay to even talk of buying these parcels of land.
