SOVIET SPREADS PROPAGANDA HERE By S. D. WEYER (I. N. S. Staff Correspondent) (Copyright 1925 by International News Service) BERLIN, Dec. 28.—A clergyman of the Russian Living church named Wredenski, has been sent to the United States by the Third Internationale to conduct Rod propaganda, it was learned by International News Service today after a searching investigation of the ramifications of the Russian propaganda system. It was established beyond doubt that George Tehitcherin, commiserar for foreign affairs in the soviet government at Moscow, has repealed iron-clad orders that no one connected with the Austrian diplomatic or consular services in any capacity whatsoever may directly or indirectly engage in communist propaganda. Tehitcherin instructed the Russian envoy to direct their entire attention to legitimate government business so that no foreign government could accuse the soviet of using its diplomatic machinery propaganda. However, the Third Internationale is still feverishly backing propaganda for a world revolution. Every conceivable means of publicity is being employed by VETERANS WON'T JOIN IN PROTEST MANILA, Dec. 28.—The Filipino revolutionary veterans of which Emiliano Aguinaldo is the head, today adopted resolutions against its members participating in the protest parade Sunday on the grounds that they do not consider it an "imperative necessity." Colonel Crane, chief of the Filipino constabulary, announced his disapproval of the "protest" parade, calling "not only an act of disloyalty against the government on the part of the people, but also one of disrespect to the governor general." He will not permit his men to participate including the famous constabulary band which for 20 years has headed Rizal Day processions. Correct this sentence: "If you don't mind," remarked the man. "I'll take a nap while you are filling the tooth." the officials of the Third Internationale. A branch, specializing in propaganda in England, and America has established headquarters at Bonn on the Rhine in the occupied area in Germany. It is conducted by a Russian named Rarmarkovski. Wredenski is understood to have worked his way to New York as a steward upon a steamship. WATCH FOR NEW VOLCANIC ACTIVITY REDDING, Dec. 28.—Observation today were closely watching Lassen for further volcanic activity. Late yesterday for three hours the only live crater in the United States belched forth smoke ash in its greatest burst of activity since 1914, when the cano awakened from 200 quiescence. While only telescopic observation is possible due to the high snow on the slopes of the pyramid it is believed that the eruption came from what is known as "new crater" which developed during the 1914 period of activity. The snow today was black for many miles with volcanic ash and during its height the sun cloud sent up was visible over greater part of northern California. The eruption was apparent "bubbling over" observers said. Staff Correspondent) PARIS, Dec. 28—The tragic fate of the giant French dirigible Dixmude was revealed today when official announcement was made that it had been lost in the Mediterranean. The body of the commander — Lieut. Commander Duplessis — was picked up near Sicily. It is feared that all the fifty persons on board were drowned. The Dixmude has been missing ten days. French, Italian and British destroyers are searching for the missing bodies. Official announcement of the loss of the Dixmude was made by the minister of marine. The commander's body was picked up by Italian fishermen. The ministry of marine issued a communique saying: "The French naval attache at Rome has been informed by the Italian naval authorities that the body of Lieutenant Duplessis de Grenedan has been found by Italian fishermen." "The body was picked up six miles from land in the vicinity of Sciacca, near Girgenti, on the coast of Sicily. "The French naval attache at Rome will go immediately to Sciacca. The cruiser Mulhouse and three torpedo boats likewise will go to Sciacca. Other vessels will continue the search for wreckage and bodies." News of the loss of the great airship followed a report that it had been sighted 250 kilometers south of Insalah, in the Sahara Desert. Hope that the crew and passengers might be safe was turned into sorrow by news from Naples that the body of the commander had been found. This news made it certain that the Dixmude, helpless from lack of fuel, and a disabled motor, had been forced down into the sea. The Dixmude had set out from the air base at Toulon ten days ago to fly over the Mediterranean to Algeria. The body of the commander was identified by papers in the pockets of his clothing. The body was found on the water off the Sicilian coast. Vessels searched the vicinity for traces of the airship, but none were found. Officials of the ministry of marine were skeptical of the report that the airship had been sighted over the Sahara desert as it was known that she had not sufficient fuel aboard to keep aloft until Wednesday—the day upon which BUYS BUNGALOW S.M. STOCKS TEND TO RECOVER NEW YORK, Dec. 28. — The stock market recovered a good part of its early losses in the final trading and the undertone at the close was firm. An advance of 50c a ton in pig iron price and the expectation that oil companies thrust out the country will post higher gasoline prices to meet the advance announced by Standard Oil of Indiana, contributed to the improved tone. COOTE CASE JURY BREAKS DEADLOCK LOS ANGELES, Dec. 28 — Breaking a deadlock of more than 24 hours the jury in the case of A. W. Coote, bankrupt stock broker, tried on embezzlement charges, reported to Superior Judge Hardy shortly after 11 o'clock today that they had reached an agreement on two of the six counts contained in the indictment against the accused man. Details of the agreement were not revealed as the jurors resumed their deliberations, but it was rumored that the break in the deadlock might result in a verdict being arrived at some time today. When the jury members returned to the court room this morning there were no indications they were closer to a verdict than when they retired last night. The highly technical evidence presented during the trial is believed to have caused the deadlock. Coote was tried on the specific charge of accepting $24,000 from E. A. Parkford and failing to purchase the stock Parkford called for. Coote's failure is said to have been for between $4,000,000 and $5,000,000.
