CYPRESS
CYPRESS, Dec 22.—The Cypress community is well pleased by the way the sheriff's office handled the recent capture of the Mexican who committed the outrage on the little Japanese girl. In the past years Cypress folk have had many calls in for aid by that office and never before was the response so prompt and often there was no response at all.
About the only persons the sheriff's office could apprehend in the Cypress community were bootleggers. The Cypress district takes in a large territory and there has been considerable booze manufacturing in the outlying districts, all of which was credited to the Cypress section. The citizens of our town have accused the sheriff's office of being negligent of their duty in our section and it was a real pleasure to have that office handle the case the other evening as they did. The Cypress people wish to express their appreciation of the prompt and efficient action of Undersheriff French and Chief Deputy McClellan.
The Gaddy well is progressing nicely as far as can be ascertained. A water strata was cemented off at about the 1000 foot level. The cement was drilled through and the drilling has been going steadily on. There has been some hard formation encountered this week. There has been reports of a couple of gas pockets but this report has not been verified.
Mrs. Margaret Smith, who returned home last week after undergoing a serious operation at the Anaheim hospital, is recuperating.

LOS ANAGELES, Dec. 22.
While Mrs. Helen La Male, who accused her husband, Elsier La Male, of trying to sell her to Lou Harris, wealthy negro gambler, for $500,000, characterized as false her husband's claim that the "wife sale plot" was a hoax, a mysterious "mystic order of the black rose" was injected today into the case.
In an exclusive interview Mrs.
La Male told in detail her experiences with La Male regarding the
"wife sale" attempt of her husband and told of the secret organization.
La Male, his wife said, knew of the mystic order and referred to the "black rose" in his letters. She also told of an asserted diabolical plot to elect her a "queen" of the order, which she understood was for the "equalization of Ethiopian and Caucasian rights."
While La Male stood firmly today on his assertion that "Lou Harris" does not and never did exist Mrr. La Male charged her husband with having forced her to imbibe certain drugs. La Male claims he invented "Lou Harris" to rouse his wife's "interest in life," but his wife countered with details to substantiate her claim of the alleged effort to sell her into slavery.
Department of justice agents working on the case are declared to have "valuable information" concerning the case, but refused to reveal it today.
