TWO BIRTHDAYS CELEBRATED AT MAYHEW HOME
THE birthday anniversaries of Miss Evelyn Harling and Mr. J. P. Mayhew were celebrated yesterday, when Mrs. Mayhew invited almost two dozen guests for a delicious chicken dinner. All the goodies to accompany the piece de resistance were served forming a delicious meal. The afternoon was enjoyed with music and conversation. The honorees were recipients of many lovely gifts.
Although their ages differ slightly, Miss Harling and Mr. Mayhew have celebrated their anniversary jointly for several years and the event is always greatly anticipated.
Joining in their celebration were Mrs. Mayhew, Dr. andrs. Marklee, A.B. Markle, Dr. and Mrs. Markle, Mr. and Mrs. Severen, Nebraska; Mrs.R.S. Leibhart, Clair Leibhart, also of Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Luis Harling, Miss Esther Harling, Ethel Harling, Iris McKinney, Moors Harold Harling, Howard Harling, Charence Harling, John Nick and Fred Gels, of Long Beach, and Charles Virgee.

Completes Year's Work
With Miss Olive Tozier of Fullerton, as assistant hostess, Miss Edna Hochull entertained the Sherwood Study club at her home Saturday afternoon. The regular study hour was very interesting, and was climaxed with presentation to Miss Ione Maas of a certificate of completion for the first year's work as outlined by he main school in Chicago As Miss Maas had a birthday last week this certificate was somewhat of an anniversary gift.
After musical games had been played some time, Miss Hochull and Miss Tozler served refreshments.
POPULAR NURSE BECOMES BRIDE OF SANTA ANAN
MISS LUCY WCOD, popular superintendent of nurses in Anaheim hospital was married Saturday afternoon to Dr.John Luther Maroon, of Santa Ana, Judge Cox performing the ceremony, Dr. and Mrs.Maroon were calling upon Anaheim friends today receiving congratulations and hearty good wishes. The announcement gave her friend a pleasant surprise, for the bride had overlooked speaking of such intentions. As Miss Wood, the bride has been associated with the Sanitarium here for five years and has many times over proven her worth and efficiency. She has been the popular president of the Anaheim Business and Professional Women's club, now serving in the second year.

Visit Cousin on Ship
Mr. and Mrs. A. A. McClain, of North Olive-st., were entertained yesterday by Mrs. McClain's cousin, Commander Dr. Joseph P. Thayner, of the battleship Missle-sippl, now at San Pedro Mrs. Carrie McClain and daughter, Miss Ethel, accompanied them. They were shown all over the big lighting vessel and greatly enjoyed their visit. Dr. Traynor's home is in Boston.
Flower Mission Meeting
The Flower Mission of the Presbyterian church will be entertained tomorrow by Mrs. Fisher, who lives at the corner of Philadelphia and Wilhelmina-sts. She will be assisted by Mrs. Herman Loehr.
Family Dinner Party
The J. E. Stroup home on N. Zeynst was the scene of a delightful dinner party yesterday, when Mr. and Ms. J. P. Callahan parents of Mrs. Stroup, entertained their relatives with a pre-Xmas dinner and a delightful day together. Delicious lamb with mint jelly, etc., was the piece de resistance.
Guests were Mr. and Mrs. C. I. Callahan, Santa Ana, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Schlassonan, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Chapman, Orange, Mr. and Mrs. F. C. McLuteer, Mrs. Joe Stroup and children and Mr. and Mrs. Callahan. The rooms were very attractive with Holly berries and poinsettias.

ALTHOUGH she says she is not having any more birthdays, Mrs. Emma Duckworth was given a very happy surprise party Friday on the date when her birthdays used to fall, which brought her so much happiness that she almost has decided to have another one as soon as she can.
The guests were relatives and included her daughter, Mrs. Lola Pendleton, of Paradena; Mrs. W. E. Duckworth, of Long Beach; Mrs. Guy L. Duckworth, Long Beach; Mrs. Eva Fendley and Mrs. G. M. Tedrick, of Anaheim, and Mrs. Earl Faris, of Long Beach.
The guests brought along many good things for dinner, for the visit was a surprise, and many useful and beautiful gifts in honor of the day. After the meal fancy work was brought out and the afternoon spent in discussing Christmas and sewing on gifts for the happy season.

Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Couch and family who moved to Anaheim a few months ago returned to Yorba Linda last week.

Sisters En Route Home
F. C. Rimpau announced today a wireless message had been received from his sisters, Mrs. Marie Alexander and Miss Sophia Rimpau, on their way home from an extended tour of Europe. They left Anaheim Sept. 26 and it will be a month before they reach Anaheim, Mr. Rimpau believes.
Their return to New York is being made on the same steamer on which they went over. They have visited among other continental points of interest Paris and other cities of France; Rome, Nice and Venice, Italy, and Madrid. Spain. A postcard pictures the palatial hotel in which they stopped at Nice. Venice is a beautiful city, they report, tho the streets are but eight feet wide and the sidewalks but two.
Cantata Rehearsal
Anaheim Choral club will meet tomorrow evening at St. Michael's Parish hall for another rehearsal on the cantata "Ruth the Maobites." All interested are urged to come out.

Ladies of Canton Party
The Ladies of the Canton, an auxiliary of the Odd Fellows order were entertained in Orange Saturday at a Christmas party with Mrs. Claude Ellis, at her home in Orange. As members belong from all over the county, the affair was a delightfully jolly one. Gifts were exchanged and delicious refreshments were served. Mrs. Summonds, of Olinda, who belong to Louis Kebekah lodge, was among the guests.

A WEDDING and a post-nuptial shower which occurred Saturday afternoon, caused quite a flurry among the friends of Miss Ellen Von Herzen and Mr. James V. Pettit, both of Hollywood, for the friends knew not the hour of the wedding and the young couple did not know of the impending shower.
Mr. Pettit and Miss Von Herzen, accompanied by Mrs. R. E. Campbell and Mr. C. Von Herzen, who served them as attendants, went to Justice Brown's office and were married. They returned to the Campbell-home and were greeted by the friends who had gathered in their absence for the party. When the surprise and jollity had subsided somewhat the newlyweds were presented with a large arrangement of useful articles and a two-course lunchoon was served.

MRS. W. H. Houts and Mr. F. M. Eden were complimented with a dinner party last evening at the Eden home on Sycamore-st. The party being arranged by Misses Pauline Houts and Doris Eden. The dinner, a delicious one, was served at 6:30 and the youthful cooks had prepared a tasty menu. The honorees were recipients of many lovely gifts.
After the dinner, games and various amusements were in order.

MEETING DATE
The Fullerton grammar school P.T. A. has changed the date of meeting from Wednesday to Tuesday evening, this week. A special program will be given with a one-act play by the dramatic class under the direction of Miss Frances Walker, and a cantata by the pupils of Wilshire avenue building, under the direction of Miss Kathleen Rye as features. The former is entitled "The Chimes," and the latter "The Carol."

The choir of Salem Evangelical church is busy on rehearsals of the cantata, "God's Gift of Love," (Judefund) to be presented Christmas eve, Miss Edna Hochull is accompanist.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Tedrick were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. Leslie Abbott, of Los Angeles. Mrs. Tedrick and Mrs. Abbott were sorority sisters. The quartet attended the Topsy and Eve performance of the Duncan Sisters, at the Majestic theatre.
Tuesday evening, this week. County Y. M. C. A. events for 1924 will be discussed at a meeting tomorrow noon in Owen's Cafe, Santa Ann, called County Chairman M. E. Beebe, of Anaheim. Representatives of each association in the county number of 20 are expected.
Mrs. J. A. Myers of East Center street, is recovering from a recent illness, although unable to take part in her usual home duties.
A. B. Markle is again considerably indisposed, being confined to his home.
