DRIVER EXPLAINS LAUNDRY SECRETS
"Six collars are soiled to every dirty shirt by the average Anaheim man. Many men seem to make two changes of collars daily, but get along with only two clean shirts a week. A partly-solled shirt may be hidden under the coat and vest, but a dirty collar cannot be camouflaged.
"The amount of dirt on men's collars is an accurate barometer of business," he said. "During hard times men wear them longer. After one side is soiled, they turn them inside out and wear them that way. During good times, they will not try to double the wear."
"Soft collars or semi-soft collars are gaining over the hard-boiled kind every day. The stiff collar is being supplanted by a collar that looks stiff, but isn't. Before the war a collar was good for 30 washings, but the quality has deteriorated so that 15 washings is all they stand today."
Twenty years ago, we used much caustic soda, chloride of lime, and other sharp detergents. Nowadays no injurious chemicals are used in a good laundry, although some of the antiquated clothes-destroying places still exist. We use potash in our washing, which brings out colors brilliantly, instead of making them run, and which imparts a brilliant white lo the clothes. It does not harm clothes.

94 PER CENT AIR
BEATS ELECTRIC OR GAS
A new oil lamp that gives an amazingly brilliant, soft, white light, even better than gas or electricity, has been tested by the U.S. government and 35 leading universities, and found to be superior to ten ordinary oil lamps. It burns without odor, smoke or noise—no pumping up, is simple, clean, safe. Burns 94 per cent air and 6 per cent common kerosene (coal oil).
The inventor, W. A. Johnson 161 N. Union Ave., Portland, Ore., is offering to send a lamp on 10 days' FREE trial, or even to give one FREE to the first user in each locality who will help him introduce it. KITCHEN AID FOR SOUTHPAW WIVES
LONDON, Dec. 7 — No longer the "southpaw" housewife to handicapped in her work because kitchen utensils are made solely for the right-handed woman.
British manufacturers have begun to make pots and pans designed for the convenience of the left-handed operator. They are offering their customers their choice of either right-handed or left-handed pans, and are also making a double-lipped saucepan for the use of either the right-handed or left-handed woman.
The popularity of these utensils, the manufacturers declare, is proof enough that there are more left-handed housewives, cooks and kitchen maids in England than anyone has imagined.
SEND EXPEDITION TO MISSING FLYER
SEATTLE, Dec. 7 — A relief expedition of four fast motor boats was being organized this afternoon to search for Herbert A. Munter, air mail pilot, who left here at 11 a.m. Wednesday in his seaplane and has not been heard of since.
A similar expedition was being sent out by the Canadian government.
Grave fears are entertained by officials of the Alaska Airways Company, Munter's associates, that his plane was blown down by the storm which raged on the sound last night, and early today.
Munter left hurriedly in response to a call for aid from a ship in distress somewhere in the vicinity of the straits of Juan da Puca, and did not state his exact destination.
Fur coats will be worn longer this year. Pants will be worn longer by the husbands, who buy the coats — Peoria Star.
