SHEIK GIRDLE NEWEST IDEA UTILITY TOP COAT HAS SMART LINES STOCKS CLOSE STEADY NEW YORK, Dec. 4—The stock market closed steady today. The volume of trade continued diminished in the final hour and the list generally displayed little change from yesterday's closing levels. A few issues, notably oil shares, moved over a greater range than one point. General Airhalt and Marland Oil yielded over one point each A black satin afternoon frock has the very newest idea in girdies, the "Sheik." It is wound scarf-like about the hips with toog sashlike ends hanging below the skirt hem. The frock is trimmed with henna and gold embroidery. The three great causes of arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) are alcohol, syphilis and overeating. For general utility wear the coat illustrated is unequaled. It has lines that are decidedly smart and good. It may be worn over a sweater in severe weather when motoring or attending sports contests. The conservative wishes to delete progress; the progressive wishes to delete abuses; the radical wishes to delete the conservative. PANTOMIME by J. H. Striebel STOCKS CLOSE STEADY NEW YORK, Dec. 4. A growing tide of optimism led to a strong close of the market today. Traders reversed the attitude apparent recently and seemed to believe that price boosting would come when congress goes under way.
