CONVICTS HAVE SOFT SNAP FERTILE, Iowa, Dec. 3.—The "Prisoners" sent up from Dauphin county, Pr., wherein is incited Philadelphia, believe they have just cause for complaint. The authorities are on the verge of urging them to give up their motor cars and cease calling on girls and attending the theater in the evening. The county maintains its baste in the heart of Harrisburg's business district. It has barred windows, iron grated entrances, and even a 20-foot wall around the structure. It has in fact everything to impress evildoers. But the county also maintains a home for the penniless and aged, which has first-class accommodations and good food. It is surrounded by a fertile farm where those who are able may work to relieve the monotony of life in the "county home." Recently it was learned that to be assigned to the almshouse was little short of a "vacation." There are no guards. Neither are entrances and exits locked and barred. But the real "knockout" was discovered when a man serving a sentence for driving an automobile while intoxicated was arrested and held without bail on the same charge before half of his original term had expired. MOURNERS FOX TROT AT FUNERAL ROME, Dec. 3.—The amazing sight of couples fox-trotting to the accompaniment of a jazz band round the bier of a funeral cortege caused the intervention of the police at Udine, in northern Italy. PAYS DIVORCE LAWYER WITH KISS LOS ANGELES, Dec. 3.—A kiss for a ree. That was what pretty, impulsive Alice Bigelow, vaudeville actress, gave her attorney, Isadore Morris, just after he had obtained a divorce for he. In Judge Summerfield's court. The kiss was perfectly legal, too, because it was administered in the courthouse in public, just outside the courtroom. It went smack! and Judge Summerfield later declared he heard it 100 feet away. “There, that's your fee,” Miss Bigelow told her attorney. Her decree was from Harry Owen, of Chicago. Cruelty was the ground for divorce. The plaintiff declared her husband had tried to commit suicide and once threatened to drive the auto in which they were riding into Lake Michigan and end both lives. Buy In Anaheim EDITOR'S RED SHIRT ROUSES BULL'S IRE HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 3.—story of an editor who, wags insist, got a dose of his own medicine, is told here at the expense of E. E. Brown, editor of the local newspaper. Editor Brown was placidly manipulating his shears, paste pot and penell, attitted, as was his custom, in a flaming red shirt, when he was suddenly confronted by a black-polled Angus bull. The bull, who entered the city early in the day and amused himself for a time by chasing pedestrians and attacking automobiles, happened to be passing Brown's office. He saw the red shirt. Given under my hand this 19th day of July, 1923. G. B. BROWN. Justice of the Peace of sal Township. WM. P. WEBB, JR. Attorney for Plaintiff Publish Oct 15, 22, 19; Nov 5, 12, 19-26; Dec. 3. IN THE SUPERIOR COURT OF MOURNERS FOX TROT AT FUNERAL ROME, Dec. 3. — The amazing sight of couples fox-trotting to the accompaniment of a jazz band round the bier of a funeral cortege caused the intervention of the police at Udine, in northern Italy. It was explained to the police that the funeral was that of a prominent barber, who in his will had requested that his body should be accompanied to the grave side by a jazz band playing the liveliest music obtainable. The funeral procession, it appeared, had started out decorously enough, but the dance music at last proved irresistible to the younger couples, with the above result. The police thereupon took upon themselves the management of the rest of the ceremony. —Buy In Anaheim As a general thing, a pessimist is a man who has lost faith in the world to repay it for losing faith in him. An observer remarks that dull wits cause the greater part of domestic infelicity. Dull razor blades do their part, however. MOUSE TIES UP SCOTCH CITY POWER ABERDEEN, Nov. 26—The old Scottish proverb that "one mickle makes a muckle" was amply confirmed when a mouse crept between two cables at the city's electric power station here. The consequences of the mouse's escapade included the suspension of the street car services and electric lighting supply through the breaking of the current, the power station doors and machinery were wrecked, all elevators were stopped, and shipping was held up because the electrically-operated swing bridge could not be worked.
