DRILL ANOTHER EAST OF ANAHEIM
Much interest is being aroused by the fact that another oil company is to drill east of Anaheim. The Reliable Oil Co. has taken over the well and the lease of the Orange County Petroleum Co. on the Monnette property, and is now negotiating with drilling contractors to put the well down with a rotary through the three oil sands known to underlie the structure on which the well is located, according to A. B. Cochran, general manager of the company.
It will be recalled that this is the well which was started about two years ago on the crest of the divide between Villa Park and Orange county park. It is on the old Santiago creek road about a mile northwest of the park. Drilling was suspended for several months, due to legal complications, but Mr. Cochran states that all parties have been brought together and their differences settled. The property and well have been taken over by the Reliable Oil Co., which is composed of some of the big financial and business men of Los Angeles:
"We expect to pick up the first producing oil sand within the next few hundred feet," said Mr. Cochran.
"The hole is down 2880 feet and the log shows that three tar sands and one thin live oil sand have been drilled through, and while not commercial, shows that the well is located in an oilized area. The National Security well is on the flank of this same structure a half-mile nearer the park. They hit the first oil sand at 3629 feet, the second one at 3974, and are now 160 feet into the third oil sand, which they figure is the big pay. In a recent PLAN THREE MORE CAL. CONGRESSMEN WASHINGTON, Dec. 1—Continuation of House membership at 435, but with new apportionment to states, is provided in a bill to be introduced in the House Monday by Rep. Fairfield, Rep., of Indiana, it was announced today.
Three efforts to reapportion representation from the state in the House of Representatives under the 1920 census failed in the last Congress because of opposition from various states losing representation under schemes to hold down the House membership.
The Fairfield bill shows 12 gains in eight states and 12 losses in 11 states, as follows:
Gains—California, 3; Connecticut, 1; Michigan, 2; New Jersey, 1; North Carolina, 1; Ohio, 2; Texas, 1; Washington, 1.
Losses—Missouri, 2; Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, Rhode Island and Vermont, one each.

SLIGHTLY HURT
Four victims of a serious auto crash late Friday at Cypress were congratulating themselves today that they escaped critical injuries.
A Ford roadster driven by Luther Reed of Inglewood, pulling out from a flipping station at Walker-st., and Lincoln-ave, was struck by a Dodge touring car driven by Eert Tibbetts coming from the east at speed estimated to be 30 miles per hour. Struck on the front wheel, the Ford was turned completely over and badly wrecked. The Dodge fared better but the steering gear broke and after leaving the highway, swerved back and recrossed it, plunging into the wall of the Cypress garage and caving it in.
Neither Reed nor his wife suffered more than severe nervous shock. Tibbetts escaped with leucated ear and Jim Rogers, with him, suffered slight contusions and isferences about the head.
Tibbetts and Rogers, newcomers from Arkansas, are guests at the Fred Burton home at Moody station.
Occupants of both cars were so thankful for their narrow escape that they did not attempt to fix the blame and assess the damage.
It must be awful to be rich and have to wear nighties made of silk, instead of outing.
east of Olive, and last and best, our Orange county park land. I've heard a lot of wise birds say he was visionary yet; of these 11 that he named he lived to see seven of them big oil fields (that's seven come eleven, sure enough), and at the time of his death two wildcat wells were drilling on two more of the, the Reliable Oil Co. well being one of them. 'Come on you eleven!'
With the National Security claiming a well and reaming for a big production string, with the Standard down 2250 feet, the Orange Community 3195 with fine showings and the Reliable down 2880 and but a short distance about the top sands, which one will be the first to put this section on the oil map? It's anybody's race.

BRITISH LOSE SUIT
WASHINGTON, Dec. 1. — The British government has lost its claim against the United States for 755,400 pounds, growing out of the destruction of a dam built in the Rio Grande river at Elephant Butte, New Mex., by the Rio Grande Irrigation and Land Co., in 1896, the state department announced today.
After lengthy litigation in this country, the claim was taken before the American and British claims arbitral tribunal in London and there dismissed.

COPS CAN'T FRISK TRUCK FOR LIQUOR
PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 1 — The prying problem is in cop, who poked his nose into the doors of motor trucks for a sniff, has received a curtailment of his powers here that confines the exercise of his olfactory sense to a proper distance from suspected vehicles.
In a decision by Judge Harry McDevitt police are informed that hereafter they have no right to pry open the doors of trucks in search of illicit liquor without a warrant. The only exception of the ruling is that the officer may hold the vehicle if he has positive knowledge, through his hearing, sight or other sense, that a load of hooch is aboard the motor truck.
Admirals of the motor truck navy of the wets are now hoping for an embryo Edison who can invent a clinkless bottle and odorless whiskey.
FIRST RIOTS IN BRITISH CAMPAIGN (By F. A. Wray)
(I. N. S. Staff Correspondent)
LONDON, Dec. 1. — The first riots in the political campaign were reported today. There were disorders in numerous districts.
Miss Violet Robertson, a conservative candidate for the house of commons, was attacked during a meeting at Glasgow. She was kicked and beaten, suffering severely from the shock.
Robert Horne was threatened during another meeting at Glasgow.
Liberal candidate Hogbin, in the Battersea district, was obliged to cancel all his meetings because of disorders, and the threats of his opponents. His Communist opponent, Salkalava, appealed to the constituents to give Hogbin a fair show, but they failed to heed the request.
We are urged to forego one Sunday dinner, spending the would-be cost of that dinner to the starving orphans in the Near East. That's good for the orphans, but better for us.
