$30,000 LOSS AS ENGINES CRASH NDALE, Nov. 30.—One man was probably fatally injured when two locomotives and a power car of the Glendale and Montrose Railway came together in a terrific collision in the heart of Glendale today shortly after the power car ran wild down a grade when its brakes failed to hold. The man believed to be dying was E. M. Bainridge, engineer of the 50-ton electric locomotive which attempted to catch and hold the runaway power car travelling thru Glendale at a speed estimated at 50 miles an hour. Damage estimated at $20,000 was caused when the power car and the electric locomotive crashed into a Union Pacific locomotive near the city hall. Bainbridge, who risked his life in an attempt to catch the runaway power car, had brought the locomotive almost to the rear of the power car when the crash happened. He was hurled against the side of his cab and badly mangled. In explaining the crash between the electric cars and the Union Pacific locomotive, P. L. Hatch, manager of the Glendale Railway said his company's cars used the Union Pacific's tracks. The power car was demolished when it was caught between the electric locomotive and the big steam engine and the two locomotives also were badly damaged. Orange-co. News D. W. Sturgeon, 118 East First-st., Santa Ana, Friday was recovering from injuries sustained in an auto crash at Fifth and Bush. He suffered severe cuts and bruises. The police report of the crash states that a machine driven by E. J. Homan, 503 Normandy Place, struck a car driven by M. M. Pinson, 1320 North Third-st. The Pinson car was turned over and the windshield and top broken. Residents along North Broadway, Santa Ana, for the past week have been reporting the theft each morning of their daily quart—of milk. Two more reports of work of the Santa Ana passkey thief were made today. The home of H., E. Lehigh, 519 South Sycamore-avenue, Santa Ana was entered and $50 in a pocketbook was taken. The home of J. W. Smeykal, 523 West Walnut-ave., Santa Ana was entered and a revolver and $2.50 taken. Erection of a labor temple for Orange-co., at Santa Ana was planned today by C. Concle, director of the Orange-co. Labor Temple association. The structure will cost about $100,000 and will probably be three stories, he said. Sale of 52 acres of land at South Main-st., and Delhi-rd., for $104,000 is announced by E. M. Plans for the manufacture of an adjustable tree stay in Santa Ana were made public today by U. D. Fowler, landscape architect. Mr. Fowler said that a large number of the tree stays would be made and sold as it will be an important item for supporting young trees bearing heavy Orange and lemon crops.
