SECOND SECTION
$12,000 CARS GIVEN AWAY AT TRACT
The opening of Midway City, a new tract at Santa Ana and Huntington Beach boulevards, marks an increasing activity in this section. Across the way from Midway City is the Central Memorial Park, a $3,000,000 project which over $1,000,000 will be spent for improvements, it is reported. Nearby two other tracts are coming to life again.
The owners of Midway City have already sold a large number of lots but they state they are told they are holding the prices too low. In consequences they have engaged a Los Angeles auctioneer to undertake an auction sale Sunday, Dec. 2nd, of one block of 20 lots. The bids made on this block will fix the price of the remainder of the tract. Prices have been rising so rapidly around here recently that, it is said, some surprises may be in store.

At this auction a well known band will play selections all day, walnuts grown on Midway City tract will be given away and elder trade from Midway City apples will be dispensed. Other attractions are being arranged for. It is expected that a famous movie star will make an appearance. Several prominent men and women from Long Beach and Orange co. towns will be there to give the city a good send off.
Arthur E. Dike, one of the owners of Midway City and a capitalist from Chicago, has been making exhaustive investigations regarding the Newport Beach Harbor project. He is interested in it for several reasons, not the least of which, he says, is its easy accessibility from Midway City. He will shortly make an interesting announcement on this matter.
Mr. Dike is enthusiastic about the wonderful roads in So. Calif. He came from Chicago with his family in a specially built Studebaker and having been an enthusiast almost from the inception of the industry, he takes great interest in the good roads problem. He thinks that Midway City is ideally situated in the center of a network of splendid paved roads that lead almost everywhere.
He is boosting the local auto trade by giving away $12,000 worth of Studebaker cars to owners of lots in Midway City. He explains he would rather do this than to pay the same money to outside brokers to help him sell. He says the best seller is a satisfied buyer.

2 DAYS MORE TO PAY TAXES
Two more days in which to pay your city and county taxes! Note, you newcomers, that you have two separate tax bills—one for the assessment by the county payable at your bank or at the courthouse.
Taxes became delinquent Monday evening when penalty will be added.
Because of the rush now at the city hall and courthouse, you will save trouble by mailing in check and thus avoid stiding in line. At any rate have cheek ready and don't expect at this late date to have the over-rushed collectors take time to do a lot of looking up no changing of items for you.

HAS WORLD GONE MAD?" AT UNITED
The withering pace of daily life to which thousands of men and women are succumbing is given a powerful indictment by Daniel Carson Goodman, famous feminist author and motion picture producer in his daring and prophetic screen drama, "Has the World Gone Mad!" Now showing at the United Theatre. He goes directly to the core of his subject—without frills or furbelows. The woman who at forty forget her husband and children, undergoes the turtures of face-lifting and closet cure to prime herself for one last wild flung at illicit romance; the husband whose interests are anywhere but in the bosom of his own family; the profligate son who packs a whisky flask in his hip pocket and gives his family many heartaches as a result of his escapades; the daughter who smokes cigarettes and pipes and cigars and who gulps whiskey with all the brazen nonchalance of a leannster—all these are lashed unmrecifically by the producer, which invests his narrative with a degree of understanding that places him in the front rank of present-day screen producers.

PERMITS 50
PCT. ABOVE
LAST YEAR
It appears now that Anaheim's building valuation in 1923 will top $2,206,000. The total for the 11 months is approximately $2,100,000, and $100,000 is a low estimate for December.
Excluding today, 59 permits had been issued in November, representing a valuation of $204,977. This compares with $158,375 in October last and $112,513 in November of last year.
During the entire year of 1922 permits totaled $1,412,046, so that this year's total will mean an increase of approximately 50 percent.
The $86,000 Cassou building has been the principal item of November.

ENGAGE MARX TO FINISH CABINET
BERLIN, Nov. 20.—Dr. Wilhelm Marx, chancellor-designate, was engaged today in completing the formation of a minority coalition government.
Dr. Marx is a Centrist—a member of the Clerical party. He hoped to be able to introduce his new ministry to the relishat tomorrow.
The partial slate revealed that places had been offered to members of the Clerical, German People's and Democratic parties.
It was understood efforts were being made to induce Gustav Streisand to accept the post of foreign secretary. He was chancellor in the former government.
The new capinet is certain to meet with severe opposition in the relichat but its formation has delayed dissolution of the relichat which was considered imminent yesterday.
Opposition will come from two sources that have widely different policies—the nationalists and Socialists.
