SMALL TURNOUT FOR “PINK TEA”
By Sargum Sprout
There was a very small turnout at the pink tea exhibition down at the Orme club last night. As a boxing program or an athletic center the exhibition was terrible. As a demonstration of how not to box by a bunch of lily white milkscope it was great. The honorable board of supervisors and the great concourse of humanitarians who wish to see boxing abolished should have been there. Why, there has been many a game of pussy wants a corner played at church socials, that had last night’s show hacked off the map for roughness. It was so rotten that it was good.
In the first place only about half of the supposed to be fighters made their appearance for action. The show was about an hour late in starting. At last Battling Burrell and Kid Tex were announced as the curtain raisers. Burrell tapped Tex a half dozen times and Tex landed a light punch to the mid section. This action was repeated, only Tex landed his next punch to Burrell’s eye. This was too rough and Burrell stood on his head. Never saw a man knocked wrong end up before. As the Battling one didn’t have gloves on his feet he was disqualified and Kid Tex received credit for a technical knockout.
Twenty minutes were spent in searching for a pair of shoes for Ralph Walker. Walker finally appeared well shed but in finding his shoes he lost the art of boxing. Skip Leabo kept out of Walker’s way and also slapped the Huntington Beach lad a few times on the wrist which entitled him to the tin model.
SARGUM PROOUTINGS
Jimmy Heffern, who spent much time and energy in organizing the Anaheim Merchants baseball team, has resigned the management. He gives ill health and lack of time his reasons. Jimmy did much canvassing for funds necessary to enter the Triple A league. It was regretable that injuries and an off day should hit the team on the opening day at the new park.
Vic Ruedy, who falls heir to the management, will have to add some more driving power and Salveson and Hughes assistance if their arms do not get into shape rapidly. Anaheim is not out of the race by any means. If Makin can handle third as well as he did short, the infield will do as soon as Pendleton gets into harness.
Vic Ruedy is a fixture in left. His fly chasing to date is O.K. and his speed helps when he gets on the paths. John Hawkins is open for a trial in one of the gardens. John’s ability is well known to local fans.
A couple of heavy hitters in the puttfield, a good third-baseman, another pitcher, with Mokin doing the utility work and Anaheim would be ready to make the rest of the league sit up and take notice.
The National Amateur Athletic Union has finally come out flat footed and refused to recognize the records made by Charles Paddock. For two years the Union has been loath to accept the records and the recent action is somehow somewhere, tied for the spectacle have fallen in arrival of the Army and football teams in New York morrow morning, individual with a complex for whisper behind the hand, have begun transact business in the hotel bios.
Somehow, somewhere, tie for the spectacle have fallen in hands of speculators many citizens will either pay bile or treble the box office for the privilege of sitting in the game, or they won’t sit all.

Twenty minutes were spent in searching for a pair of shoes for Ralph Walker. Walker finally appeared well shed but in finding his shoes he lost the art of boxing. Skip Leabo kept out of Walker's way and also slapped the Huntington Beach had a few times on the wrist which entitled him to the tin nodal.
Mary Knie and Louis Vincent staged the only resemblance of a boxing bout and that ordinarily would have been considered a very poor curtain raiser. Kane won all the way by using the Filipino's lunch basket for a punching bag.
In the so-called semi-windup Roy Moore couldn't fight and Eddie McLeary wouldn't. They were given a draw. This was the worst exhibition outside the main event ever staged anywhere.
Sailor Steve Dilas was conspicuous by his absence. A lion who answers his mime when she calls Herbie took the sailors place. We onlooker would not let the beautiful Ernie Owens muss up the lion so the affair lasted four rounds, with Owens receiving the nursing bottle.
Gee, but it's great that such brutal exhibitions are being eliminated in Orange co. Next, I think we should uphold the making of all taffies and adhere to the manufacture of marshmallows, taffles are so tough.
The announcer at Orana last evening informed us that Art Springer was knocked out in San Bernardino yesterday by Dan Cupid. Art and his conquerer are spending their honeycon in San Francisco.
Shop Early—CROWD WILL SEE CARD-BEAR GAME
(Hy Ellis H. Martin)
(H. N. S. Staff Correspondent)
BERKELEY, Nov. 22.—The greatest crowd ever assembled in the west for such a purpose will see in the "big game" Saturday dedicating the new California Stadium one of the greatest football games ever staged between the ancient rivals—the California Bears and the Stanford Red Shirts.
This was the unanimous opinion of the experts 48 hours before the game. Two teams of punch, power and brains will trot forth into the vast concrete bowl Saturday afternoon to engage in the annual clash of the two institutions.
Past performances give California a slight edge, the couple of heavy hitters in the puttield, a good third-baseman, another pitcher, with Makin doing the utility work and Anaheim would be ready to make the rest of the league sit up and take notice.
The National Amateur Athletic Union has finally come out flat footed and refused to recognize the records made by Charles Paddock. For two years the Union has loath to accept the records and the recent action is not a surprise. The East has long been jealous of the West and has discredited the West's prowess whenever possible. Western football stars were not considered on all American teams till the East vs West games were entered. These games opened the eyes of the public and forced the critics to consider our stars.
The fandom of the baseball world is to show the newly elected president of the Coast League, Harry Williams, just how popular he is when 1200 plates will be laid at the banquet tables of the new Baltimore hotel, Nov. 30. Williams has been one of the leading sports writers of the coast for year and is one of the most popular members of the craft. Several of the Big league managers will be at the tables as well as numerous luminaries of the dinamond.
Stanford's chance of upsetting the Golden Bear next Saturday appear to be in the Cards' forward passing ability and the Bears' inability at such a game. We'll bet a cooky that Old Andy Smith has the Bear well skilled in the art of breaking up any air attack the Cards will be able to launch.
Art Springer, once popular with Anaheim fight fans, is still a good drawing card in and around Los Angeles. Art is about the most active of any of the boxers. A week seldom passes without the long haired flash appearing at least once.
Young Dudley, the colored lad who used to draw the fans to the old Sparks arena, is up around Seattle taking on the best of his weight. He is considered one of the best drawing cards in the north.
Mike Donlin and his bunch of ball tossers, the same bunch that trampled on our local prides last Sunday, are to dedicate a new ball park in their home town, Glendale, next Sunday. Frank Chance, Clarke and several other old timers will be on hand to see the young old man do his stuff.

see the "big game" Saturday dedicating the new California Stadium one of the greatest football games ever staged between the ancient rivals—the California Bears and the Stanford Red Shirts.
This was the unanimous opinion of the experts 48 hours before the game. Two teams of punch, power and brains will trot forth into the vast concrete bowl Saturday afternoon to engage in the annual clash of the two institutions. Past performances give California a slight edge, the experts agree, but in the "big game," a slight edge is hardly enough to determine the outcome.
Both teams have been pointed for this game. Andy Smith recognized as far back as last year that the Stanford eleven under Andy Kerr's active direction and "Pop" Warner's advice would this year menace the Golden Bear's football supremacy. All of the hurdles this season were taken in easy fashion with that in view. The same was true "down on the farm." Andy Kerr developed his team this year within but one objective—California. And Saturday these objectives will clash with the result admittedly in doubt.

Battling Siki, who jumped into fame by knocking out Georges Carpentier, was badly beaten by Kid Norfolk at Madison Square Gardens. This was Siki's first start in America and proved the Senegalese far from being a contender for Jack Dempsey's crown.
Siki displayed plenty of grit but little else. Norfolk was too wise for him and steadily beat him down. Siki has never trained rightly since coming into prominence. Two years of wine, women and cong have made their mark on the natural physical greatness of the wild Senegalese.
Siki is a wonder from his ears down, from the ears up he has very little. With the brains of Benny Leonard, Siki would be a world's champion for years, but as is, Siki is just a dangerous 'pork and beaner'.

When questioned the girl refused to make a statement.
"Questioned later at central police station, the girl who first gave her name as Julia Johnson is said to have confessed, admitting she is Mrs. Jeanne M. Carlton, and the five day bride of Edward H. Carlton, sought by the police as McGee's slayer.
The girl said she came here from San Diego last week.
Miss Johnson, or Mrs. Carlton, said she met her husband about a month ago, that he promised her all the luxuries of life and she fell desperately in love with him. It was not until after they were married, she said, that she discovered Carlton got his supply of money from a life of crime.
Last night, the girl said, Carlton told her he was going out to rob and rather than let him go alone, she went with him. She also related, the officers said, of entering the Belding home and told of how she tried to commit suicide, but was frustrated by her.

Owen Johnson, carpenter, said to be a brother of the hunted man's wife, was arrested by Long Beach police at his Seal Beach home and brought to Central police station here.
The police said Johnson was not suspected of being a member of the bandit gang, but was arrested solely for the purpose of assisting in the questioning of Mrs. Carlton.
A dragnet was thrown out last night by local police in an effort to apprehend the murderers of the Los Angeles policemen in a battle with burglars in the Wilshire district.
The burglars shot and killed "Boby" McGee and perhaps fatally wounded Detective Lieutenant Luke of the Los Angeles police.
The local office received a communication from Los Angeles telling what had happened, and asking that a lookout be kept here for the fleeing murderers. Patrolmen were placed at Palm-st and the state highway until 7 a.m., stopping every car, but the search proved fruitless.
