Miscellaneous FIND LITTLE OIL IN BICKNELL TEST Montebello's outlook for a western extension has improved this week with the Bicknell test well showing a little oil. The well has been on a pumping test for the past ten days, the effort being to exhaust the water if possible. Along with the 200 barrels of water the well is making some oil has been coming and a conservative estimate of the well's oil output is now ten barrels. The oil is 32 gravity, worth developing, and H. L. Whiston will go ahead, try and shut off water and carry the test well into the deep sands. Santa Fe Springs west extension is not an oil field yet and the outlook is not very promising. The M. and H. Oil Company, the deepest well loft the northwest group is down 4662 feet and is having a lot of difficulty shuttling off water. The well is now standing cemented for the fourth time. The First National Petroleum Company went down to 5000 feet, found nothing and plugged back to 4785 and will make a test soon. Co-operative Petroleum Syndicate A-1 is held up with a fishing job and work will not go ahead until the arrival of some special tools. Syndicate A-1 is 4408 deep. The hope of Artesia now lies in the finding of a deep sand. The recent test made at 4620 did not show anything but water. Drilling has resumed and the hole now shows a depth of 4820 feet. The drilling is doing nicely and all the well needs is the oil to make it an oil well. It is reported that something is going to happen at El Segundo soon and the busy refinery town is to be the next oil field of So Calif. Persistent rumors has it that the Pan-American Petroleum BREA NEWS BREA, Nov. 16.—(Spl.)—Miss Dorothy Senn is staying in Fullerton at the home of Mrs. Crouse and attending High school. CHICKS and hatching eggs free real quality, accredited and traced The hope of Artesia now lies in the fluding of a deep sand. Persistent rumors have it that the Pan-American Petroleum Co. found something in the neighborhood of 3200 feet and a string of pipes was set. The Pan-American has kept the drilling of this wildcat well a dark secret since drilling started and no information can be secured from the well or any company officials. The well is kept closely guarded and waiters are not able to get close enough to hear or see anything. Good reports are coming from the Orange Oil Association's wild cat well located 2-4 of a mile northwest of Orange. Drilling has passed the 2800 mark and some very favorable brown shale showings have been noted. Puente Hills development is expected to show up soon with the coming back of the Mahala Oil and Gas Co., into the field. For the past year the Gulf-Pacific Oil Co. has been developing the Mahala's holdings. The Gulf Co. has retired from oil to mining, and the Mahala takes its holdings back to develop. Mahala No. 1 was drilled to over 4200 feet and showed commercial production. The Mahala will redrill, shut off waters and put the well on a production basis that will show up the possibilities of the new field. Drilling on the F. A. Black well on the Harbor Boulevard is progressing nicely. The well formerly known as the Keystone Syndicate is making hole at 3200 feet. The brown sandy shale at 3200 is showing oil and gas. The sand is expected to be picked up at 3500 feet. Laguna Beach steps back into interest with the Diamond Drill Contracting Co. making new hole in the old well. The drilling is now at 4452 and as far as drilling difficulties are concerned there won't be any with the diamond drill cutting the hole.
