They regretted the damage which followed in the wake of the fire, but now that they are sure the track will be ready for the big race, they are pleased in that the enforced wait while workmen are repairing the oval will give them more time to work on their cars. —Buy In Anaheim HELD AS EMBEZZLER SHANGHAI, Nov. 10.—Alfred Patterson, who claims to be the son of a New Orleans importer, was arrested here today for the alleged embezzlement of $10,000 from a Chinese comprador at Tier Tain. Los Angeles St. Anaheim 112 East Amerige Fullerton California approve THE NEW 1924 STAR THE NEW 1924 STAR CAR Throughout the length and breadth of the State, the public have acclaimed the 1924 Star Car as the sensation of the year. Its beauty captivated them—its construction amazed them. Never before has any car won the confidence of the people in so spontaneous a manner. Overnight there has swept a wave of approval that has far outstripped all expectations. Crowded showrooms—many sales, have shown concrete evidence of this approval. INTEREST GROWS IN NEW STAR CAR The five days which have passed since the 1924 models of the Star car were put on display have been the busiest in my entire history, says President Sullivan of the Appleby Motors Co. The mere announcement that new models were to be shown suffused to arouse local interest to a marked degree, but when these were once glimpsed, their revolutionary beauty created an absolute furore. The news of them spread by word of mouth from friend to friend, and it has been almost impossible to give any detailed attention to individual callers, so great have been the crowds of visitors. Such comment as could be overheard was concerned with the happy effect brought about by the body changes, and especially with the fine line of the new hood and radiator. This is now considered to be one of the most attractive and gracefully-shaped radiators built, and will form a prominent factor in making sales. There is a new harmony in the whole line of body which appeals to all seekers after beauty, and which is the effect sought by the designers. The whole body appears to have been lowered and the curving streamline came in for much praise. To the many women present among the visitors, the daintiness and refinement of the appointments seemed to deserve special mention, and the comfort of the upholstery found appreciative observers. It has been a source of particular relief and satisfaction to many to learn that the Star car chassis, as used on the original models, has been retained practically unchanged. Its sturdiness and simplicity have made it a host of friends, who appear loath to see it altered in any way. Their feeling is that it has proved itself beyond improvement, and that they could ask for nothing better. MIDWEST ENJOYS CHEAP GASOLINE CHICAGO, Nov. 10—Motorists of the 11 middle western states served by the Standard Oil Co. of Indiana today bot gasoline at the cheapest rate of a decade when the company followed its six cent slash of several weeks ago with another two cent cut. The price in Chicago was 14c at filling stations and twelve cents from tank wagons. Independent dealers represented by J. V. Nicholas, president of the National Petroleum Marketers Ass'n. met Standard's price. "A general readjustment of prices to meet changed conditions in the wholesale market" was the reason given by Standard officials for the sizable reduction. No indication of the length of time the bargain prices would prevail was given, while it was reported that retail prices in the east probably would not be affected. Gasoline prices in Chicago and vicinity have slid off nearly 50 per cent in a year. Crude oil reductions have enabled refiners to market at a profit at the decreased prices, independent oil men stated. Governor McMaster of South Dakota led in the slashing two months ago when he established state-operated filling stations handling gasoline six cents cheaper than the twenty-two cent retail rate then prevailing. RECLAMATION SERVICE MOVED DENVER, Nov 10—Dr. Hubert Work, secretary of the interior announced here this morning that the entire U. S. reclamation service with the exception of the legal and accounting departments will be moved to Denver in the very near future. The latter two departments are to be retained in Washington for purposes of convenience only. Dr. Work announced this move had been decided upon after a careful study of the matter had convinced him that a more effective and economical service could be tendered by the engineering, administrative and operating departments in Denver, which is practically the center of all reclamation work, than could be done by these departments in Washington. The entire department under the new ruling will be reorganized, according to Dr. Work. RADIO —We have a complete line of Radio Parts for all the principal circuits, and a Radio for every man's purse.
