ITO PLANT BURNS
FORESTVILLE, Nov. 7.—Fire early today completely destroyed the big Ito apple dryer plant here, together with 28 tons of dried apples and several tons of green apples, with a loss estimated at $10,000.
The plant was the largest in Sonoma county. The entire community joined in fighting the fire, which threatened several large fruit warehouses and adjoining residences.

LANDIS, JOHNSON PREPARE FOR WAR
By DAVIS J. WALSH
(I. N. S. Sports Editor)
NEW YORK, Nov. 7.—Those hardly old irresconcilables, Judge Landis and Dan Johnson, are reaching toward the hip again with the idea of shooting it out for the control of baseball, according to well informed sources.
The war, if any, will be started by Johnson, they say, and finished by Landis, who happens to sit in the driver's seat with a contract so uncompromising as to give him absolute power. He will need it.
It was said that judicious efforts are being made by the Johnson faction to discredit Landis and his administration at every turn. Indirect propaganda, dealing only with generalities and innuendoes, have been used for this purpose, it is alleged. The business in question has been taken by the Landis element to mean that a determined effort will soon be launched against the Judge's control of the game.
It even has been intimated that Landis will be approached by "friends" who will point out to him the expediency of tendering his resignation. One baseball man recently went so far as to declare that some of the club owners would be satisfied to pay Landis his salary for the duration of his contract, if he would step down from the throne. Upon which, the judge's local spokesman made the statement that Landis will serve the seven years of his contract whether baseball likes it or not.
Baseball is "fixing" for a fight again. Landis himself made some few political enemies when he awarded to charity the proceeds of the 1922 world's series game.

ANAHEIM GIRLS
WIN TWO GAMES
Adding two more victories, Anaheim H. S. girls first and skeeter teams defeated Montebello Hi 29 to 2 and 54 to 10 respectively yesterday.
This was the fourth consecutive victory for each team. Coach Jacques followers stopped right into the lead and completely outplayed Montebello. Evelyn Cordes showed up fine as forward and was responsible for the majority of the points.
Lydia Mohr is showing up well and is making accurate shots. Resie Labourlette is fast regaining the starring position she held last year. The guards, Ted Bemlish, Esther Hile and Madeline Toussou, can't be beat. Hazel declare that some of the club owners would be satisfied to pay Landis his salary for the duration of his contract, if he would step down from the throne. Upon which, the judge's local spokesman made the statement that Landis will serve the seven years of his contract whether baseball likes it or not.
Baseball is "fixing" for a fight again. Landis himself made some few political enemies when he awarded to charity the proceeds of the 1922 world's series game, called in the tenth innning, without consulting Johnson or John A. Heydler. He cemented this hostility by making arrangements for the last series with Johnson and Heydler ignored. Heydler even wasn't aware that the meeting was being held until notified on its outcome by the newspapers.
The propagandists, of course, had been working on the judge for some time previous before this breach of etiquette. However, not all of the adverse comment is nefthal propaganda. Some of it comes from men who helped to elevate Landis to his position after the New York, Chicago and Boston clubs of the American League had taken deep and lasting issue with Johnson on his control of baseball, with particular reference to his decision in the famous Mays case.
On that occasion, the National League, in total, lined up with the anti-Johnson trio and voted Landis into one of the biggest and most highly paid offices in public life. Some are said to have lived to regret it. The judge, it is intimated, is entirely too arbitrary to suit some of them. But at the time of his elevation, they signed an agreement to refrain from all public criticism of baseball officials and colleagues.

Lydia Mohr is showing up well and is making accurate shots. Resie Labourlette is fast regaining the starring position she held last year. The guards, Ted Bemish, Esther Hile and Madeline Toussou, can't be beat. Hazel Wright, new in the game, looks good to the coach.
The skeeter team, under the direction of Coach Marie Noil, stepped hard on the visitors. Each opponent was completely outplayed by the Anaheim girls.
Again Cuba Carner was the star, making 34 digits. Ember Heyne, another forward, made the majority of the remaining points. Lydia Prahm appeared in a suit yesterday and brot down six points.
The skeeters feel like they can take on any team in the south. They have a wonderful machine and display excellent team work. Their high jumping after the ball is a remarkable feature. They seem to grab it out of the air.
A practice game will be played at Tustin tomorrow.
