Y. M. C. A. ANNUAL ATTENDANCE 15,000 That the growth of the Anaheim Y, M. C. A. during the past 12 months has kept pace with that of the city was revealed today in the figures presented as the association year closed. The report shows a gain in attendance at activities of about 400%, while the number and variety of the activities show almost an equal gain. Over 600 different people, boys, girls, men and women have been regular attendants at the Y, M. C. A. Center, which has seen an attendance at all activities during the year of over 15,000. The swimming pool was the big interest during the summer, the attendance showing a total of 6645. Seventy-three boys and men enjoyed Camps and outings, while 22 different church groups and organizations with an attendance of $1C used the Center for various functions. But the real heart of the Y, M. C. A. work in our community is revealed in the following: 155 boys in personal interviews; 100 enrolled in Bible Study groups, 27 Forward step decisions, 9 decksops for Christian life. The personal interest which Y, M. C. A., secretaries take in keeping follows straight is one of the features of "Y" work. The late Pres. Warren G. Harding, shortly before his death, speaking of the Association, said: "In its particular field; it seems to be that the Young Men's Christian Association does a work of wider scope than any other organization, and of very great public usefulness." SATURDAY OBTAINS TRAINING BY WORKING WAY THROUGH COLLEGE EXPECT TORRANCE TO DEVELOP FIELDS Nothing but a great future for the prediction of the new Torrance oil field. The prediction based on the ease with which wells are drilled, the quality of the oil that is being produced and the nice wells the field yielding. By nice the writer has reference to the 1200 and 1500 barrel wells that have crowned the efforts of the producers since the advent of the Midway-Northern's No. 1, followed by Portuna and the Midway-Northern's No. 2. The getting twelve and fifteen hundred barrel wells at from $500 to $400 feet is something to be proud of and from every angle of the industry the Torrance oil field has a great future ahead providing it is developed along careful and conservative lines. I would like to see some action taken that would stop the town lot drilling at once, and develop the field later the manner of the big companies, and allow wells only on five acre tracts. With the formation of community leases, the land owner gets something, the operator gets something, and who deserve something get something. The stopping of town lot development would put an end to the promoter drilling wells or lots and fleecing the investor with wells that cannot possibly produce enough oil to pay the cost of drilling. With the bringing in of a 500 barrel well by George F. Getty and a 1200 barrel well by the Selby-Root Oil Co. the production of the Torrance field was raised to a daily output of 15,000 barrels. The completion made Getty was at his No. 2 well, and drill-mt to $709 feet this production came in at and is holding steadily at 500 barrels. The Selby-Root Oil Co. completed its first SATURDAY SPECIAL Strawberry Pie 25c Almond Coffee Cake 20c BOSTON BAKERY LEB EICHOLTZ, Prop. The prediction is upon the ease with which are drilled, the quality of that is being produced, the nice wells the field is. By nice the writer has come to the 1200 and 1500 wells that have crowned parts of the producers since event of the Midway-Nor-No. 1, followed by the and the Midway Nor-No. 2. The getting of and fifteen hundred barrels at from 2500 to 4000 something to be proud of, from every angle of the in-tect Torrance oil field has future ahead providing it hoped along careful and native lines. I would like some action taken that stop the town lot drilling and develop the field at a manner of the big oil sites, and allow wells only trace tracts. With the for- of community leases, the owner gets something, the gets something, and all serve something get some-The stopping of town lotment would put an end to pomoter drilling wells on flieering the investors wells that cannot possibly enough oil to pay the drilling. Interest is Keener As Date Approaches If the time between this and Nov. 5rd were much longer there might easily develop a feud that would take years to heal, and that would seriously handicap scientific progress. The group of men who have looked upon the promise of spectacular stellar action on that date as worthy of attention have been so bitterly opposed by the incredulous element, such hard words, such scathing criticism has been broadcast, that the whole topic has now assumed wide, general interest. There will undoubtedly be an active watch set during the entire 24-hour period of November 3rd, both sides being anxious to prove their own attitude, and to be able to laugh at the folly of the enemy. Mysterious and cryptic, still come the hints, repeating their promise of unsuspected phenomena to be revealed in due course. Questioning and investigation have alike failed to trace the source of these messages, though they breathe an authority which few dare deny. Patience is the only salvation for this situation. The hours will pass, the truth or fallacy, the meaning or absurdity of it all will soon be made apparent. The need to scan the sky will soon be past.
