SURPRISE PARTY,
INSPIRED BY
TWO OCCASIONS
A JOLLY housewarming and party in celebration of their wedding anniversary was the form of a surprise perpetrated upon Mr. and Mrs. Steve Luther at their pretty new home near Cypress, Mr. and Mrs. Luther are just well settled having moved in about one month ago. They had asked Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ledford in to play cards and were engrossed in the game, too much to even hear the approach of the nuts, when a thunderous noise at the door was the surprising announcement of the visitors.
With characteristic hospitality the guests were invited in and the evening enjoyed over the card tables. To Mrs. Mary Sutherland and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ledford belong the credit of the successful arrangements. Mrs. C. R. John won first prize for greatest number of points and Mrs. Ledford received the consolation award. Pumpkin pie and coffee formed the refreshment feature, eleven pies having been provided for nineteen guests.
Participating in the joint celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hughes, Los Angeles; Mr. and Mrs. Phil Duvall, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Scally, Mr. and Mrs. R. Loara School Party
Jolly Church Affair
The young people of the Presbyterian church had a delightful Hallowe'en party last evening at the church. A T o'clock banquet started the affairs of the evening, tables being attractively decorated in seasonable colors. After the banquet, the guests went to the social hall where games were played.
The jolly crowd came dressed in Hallowe'en costumes. There were many original costumes and there was much deliberation in deciding upon the best costume.
Those having the arrangements in charge were the Misses Sarah Fay, Ellen Gibbs and Mabel White. Their helpers were Mesdames C. J. Fay, Louise Oelke, Earl Spencer, William Wallop, O. H. Renner, F. K. Day, Dale Hamilton Evans and H. Seer.
Others in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Walker, the Misses Sarah Fay, Mabel White, Garnita Laine, Peggy Paige, Mary Choate, Mary Louise Parsons, Elizabeth Parsong, Josephine Cook, Ellene Dess, Elsie Nash, Pearl Fay, Charlotte Heald, Elizabeth Freeman, Jesse Johnston, Inca Morris, Selma Heine, Eloise Dovee, Ellen Gibba, Grotchen Holland, Katheryn Boege, Thelma Schlotter, Juliet Evans, Dorothy Bruner, Virginia Acton and Frank Gibbs, Rector Coons, John Dovee, Glen Rahawk, George Sloop, Jack Hensley, Max Crawford, Alien Hoddard, Dale Hensley, Kenneth Walker, Nerlin Tobin and Eugene Beattie.

Loara School Party
More than a dozen and a half members of the seventh and eighth grades of the Loara school had their annual Hallowe'en party at the Loara school last evening. A program was arranged by the committee and rooms were attractively decorated in the Halloween shades.
The trustees and teachers were honor guests. Those present included R. N. Bird, Mrs. William Stanley, and the Misses Alice Young, Beverly Smith, Ethelyn Fulton.
Delicious refreshments were served by the girls.
Members of the class are Evelyn Strudthoff, Florence Brougher, Fay Stanley, Elsie Sipple, Maude Leffler, Edith Stewart, Mahol Gust, Lucille Vogle, Marjorie Forrythe, Charlotte Forrythe, Maude Bells, Elizabeth Elbinger, Agnes Elbinger, Wilna Palge, Novelle Barry, Jack Dutton, Arthur Schraeder, Herman Shafer and Joe Staley.
Party In Rear Yard
The spacious back yard in the H. H. Knox home was gay last night when a merry crowd of young folk responded to invitation, of Miss Ellen Beat and Max Knox for a Hallowe'en party. The garage was transformed into a house of spooks, where games and stunts excited peal after peal of laughter as one another were caught up on the seasonable tricks performed.
A big fire burned brightly in the yard, around which the guests congregated and roasted weinies to be eaten with pickles, pie and other autumn goodies.
The evening was a merry one for the young folk who were Edward and Virginia Long, Mary and Mike Simon, Alice Grange, Neil Beat, Bobby Beat, Max and Betty Knox and the grownups. Mr. and Mrs. Beat and Mr. and Mrs. Knox, Mr. and Mrs. M. Mayberry.

Juniors Jollify
A Hallowe'en party which brot much jollity to a group of young folk from the junior department of Calvary Baptist Sunday school, was held at the home of Mrs. J. D. Shields, west of Anaheim. Appropriate decorations were used with thrilling effect, the splitting cats and blinking owls vied with the grinning Jack o' launterns. Many games of the season were played by the twenty children and the teachers, who are superintendent of the department, Mrs. W. L. Lundquest, and Mr. Grange, Mrs. Alsip, Mrs. Mock and Mrs. Swarthout.
Hallowe'en "ets" served late in the evening, brought the affair to a close.
Entertains For Son
Mrs. B. F. Houts entertained a few friends last evening in compliment to her son, Charles of Horton, Kan., who is visiting here. Five hundred was the enoen game, two tables being played.
Light refreshments was served later in the evening. Guests of Mrs. Houts included Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Stillens, Garden Grove; Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Eden; Mrs. Mac Blossor, Los Angeles, W. H. Houts and the honoree and hostess.
Surprise Shower
Miss Gladys Remp, sister of Thomas Remp, was complimented with a miscellaneous surprise shower on a recent evening when a number of her friends congregated at the Romp home N. Madrona-st. Brea.
Miss Remp will become the bride of Romcy Cox, an oil worker in November. The couple will make their home in La Habra.
Visitors May Remain
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Deitzen and son, Robert of Freedonia, N. Y., are guests in the L. R. Wilson home. Mrs. Deitzen is a niece of Mrs. Wilson. The newcomers are greatly impressed with the Southland and will probably locate somewhere in the vicinity of Anaheim. They made the journey over the U.P. railway.

SEASON'S STUNT FEATURE CHAPTER SEAU PARTY
THE second annual Halloween party given by the Chau Seau club was held last night at Moose Hall on S. Lemon-st., guests came in rube costume stead of Halloween garb hall was pretty decorated orange and black.
A broom dance was the highlight feature of the evening's gram. Various games were ed through the evening and "limitation" contest. Mrs. Boyd won the prize for lining a singer and dancer.
Dancing was enjoyed during hours. Archie cameraman of the group several flash light pictures group.
Mrs. Cliff Carle and Gus cott chose sides and each slid on a movie act.
Mrs. Alberta Andrews and Gus Prescott won prizes for ing the cleverest rube costume.

Bankerettes Observe Eve
Miss Leora Healton was hostess last evening to the members of the Bankerettes club at her home on S. Melrose-st. Elaborate Hallowe'en decorations were used in abundance throughout the rooms. While the girls busied themselves with their embroidery work, Miss Healton played the piano.
A dainty luncheon was served at 10 o'clock. Guests of Miss Healton included Misses Thelina Strathman, Lucyle Bastian, Helen Weber, Stella Bastian, Gladys Cottrell, Ella Mitchell, Wilhelmine Zitzmann.

Mr. and Mrs. Sedyard M. Bailey of Hollywood, are spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Bell. Mrs. S. B. Hapgood, who has spent ten days with the Baileys returned to her home with them.
Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Melhora and Miss Helen Melhorna drove to Pasadena and other interesting places today, taking their eastern guests on a sightseeing tour.
A. E. Hargrove, realtor and rancher is nursing some bad cuts and bruises over the right eye and on the right cheek-bone as a result of a fall from a tractor yesterday. He struck the feeder.
Paul Yorbe underwent an operation yesterday at the Anaheim Community hospital.
New patients at the Anaheim sanitarium include: Mrs. G. C. Seba, Orange; and Mrs. Fred Bentjen, Anaheim.
McKinley Smith of Logansport, Ind., formerly stock and real estate salesman for S. M. Kistler, is visiting with Mr. Kistler, and may accept a position with the Stewart Realty Co., as assistant in the house and lot department, of which Mr. Kistler has charge.
Mrs. Pearl E. Davis has returned from a four months' visit to her old home in Nebraska and to points in Oklahoma. Mrs. Davis, who has formerly resided in Los Angeles, will likely remain in Anaheim this winter with her daughter and husband, Dr. and Mrs. John Wilson.
Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Hein and family have returned from a visit to Glen Ivy.
Mrs. W. F. Junge of S. Ohio st., who has been ill the past week, is improving.
Mrs. R. J. Dugdale was taken to her home today after being a patient at the Anaheim sanitarium for the past three weeks.
Motor To S. A. Party
Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Nowotny, of Santa Ana formerly of Anaheim, entertained with a Halloween party last evening for the members of the Thursday evening five hundred club. The rooms were tastily decorated with mystic Halloween features and a spooky atmosphere hovered over the rooms. Games customary of the season were played and much excitement was created.
Later in the evening tables were produced and five hundred played the remaining hours.The occasion proved a lucky one for Mrs. L Z.Kroeger as she carried off first prize.Mr.Franzen received first for the gentlemen.Mrs.Erickson and Mr.A.G.Flagg made low scores

MAKE VISIT TO LIBERTY CT.
AN English dinner at 6:20 opened an auspicious occasion for Liberty Court. Order of the Auranth, last evening, when state officers made their official visits, The committee, consisting of Mrs. M. E. Canby, Mrs. Vic La Mont and Mrs. H. T. Hathaway, received highest praise for the excellence of the meal, and the decoration committee, Mesdames John Pheiffer, Stewart, El Double, Walter Smalley and A. G. Miller, for their beautiful and appropriate trimming on the table and Mrs. George Jackson in the court room, where the mystic season of Hallowe'en was featured.
Six candidates were initiated, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Huddle, Mrs. Susie Brown, Mrs. S. Daniel, and the Messrs Ed Marion and Montgomery. The work was done by Liberty court and received highest praise for the grace and efficiency in which it was performed.
The visiting officers included L. Jone Ford, grand royal matron; W. D. Smith, grand royal patron; Julia Woodruff, grand conductor; Mae McCormick, grand lecturer; Ethel Robbins, associate grand lecturer; Frederica, De Wolf, supreme trustee, and Osa Smith, Emola Thrash, Phyllis McKee, Emola E. Ford, Minnie Snow, all grand officers, and many present and past officers from the courts of Southern California.
Exemplification of the work occupied the entire evening, with time left for only short speeches from the higher officers, and the usual fraternal greetings and compliments.

Mr. and Mrs. J. M. McDuell and family motored to Los Angeles yesterday to attend a Hallowe'en luncheon given by Mrs. J. A. McCahill, sister of Mrs. McDuell, in honor of Mrs. Fanny Richey, Long Beach; Mrs. C. Cleggett, Higerstown, Md.; Mrs. E. Shelly, Tucson, Ariz.; and Mrs. T. Selby, Los Angeles.
The table was beautifully decorated with Hallowe'en suggestions, black and orange being the predominating shades.
The entire luncheon was carried out in the Hallowe'en colors.
Places at the table were laid for the honored guests, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. McDuell and family, Mrs. William H. McDuell and the hostess and Mr. McCahill.
Birthday Dinner
Mrs. Robert H. Boney of S. Olive-st, entertained with a delightful dinner party last evening in honor of the birthday anniversary of her husband. The affair was a complete surprise. The lights in the dining and living room were shaded with orange crepe paper. Black creatures were placed about the room to give a mystic appearance.
Covers at the dinner table were placed for Mr. and Mrs. Phil Williams, Duntington Park; Mr. and Mrs. William Goodrum and Mrs. Lena Mae Nolan. A large birthday cake with a sufficient number of candles was placed on the table which Mr. Boney cut for the guests.

Forty members of the local clinic and their families greatly enjoyed the barn party last night which was held in the commodious barn on the Winning Pannier ranch on East-st. The interior of the building was decked with coats, pumpskins, ghosts and all kinds of the wizard Halloween symbols.
The merrymakers attended en maske and Dr. Robinson, as a plump bat, took first prize Miss Adeline Curtis drew first prize for the ladies.
Games and music, both piano and victoria, furnished entertainment and lively accompaniment for the many games and stunts relative to the season.
Pumpkin pies, doubbnuts, coffee, elder apples, candies, formed a varied menu meant to satisfy the taste of everyone.
Guessing the identity of the members of the crowd furnished unlimited amusement, and it was a length of time before all could be learned.
O.E.S.Special Meeting
A special meeting of Chishapter, O.E.S.s will be held on night. Initiatory work will be conferred on seven candidates, and as this is the last initiation of the year it is urged that all members be present.

The K. O. C. club was entertained at the California Hotel yesterday afternoon with Mrs. H. F. Lilly as hostess. A delicious three course luncheon was served at 1:30.
