Miscellaneous TABOO RICE AND SHOES AT TRAINS SYRACUSE, N. Y., Oct. 3—Newlyweds about to embark on their honecymoon trip over the sea of contrinants are to be protected from the unant shower of rice and old shoes with which custom has decreed their friends shall express their good will and wishes for a happy journey. Delaware, Lackawanna & Western officials, in Syracuse on a tour of inspection recently, said plans have been formulated to put a stop to the rice-throwing and shoe-heaving pastimes, which they declare endanger the safety of passengers at the stations. The action follows a recording of several injuries suffered by witnesses of wedding celebration on station platforms. A patron standing on a Buffalo platform recently was struck in the face by a handful of rice, one kernel of which pierced his left eyeball. A Eirghamton woman suffered a sprained ankle recently when she slipped on some rice and fell on the cement platform. Demonstrations of this kind should be confined to the homes, railroad officials assert. ALLEGE CONFESSION TO SIX MARRIAGES LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3. — Alleged to have confessed to having at least six wives in various cities of the west and middle western section of the country, Harry R. Roshon, held in the city jail, today awaited the arrival of two police officers from Tacoma, Wash., who are said to be armed with extradition papers to secure his return to that city. Roshon is also wanted in Dos Molines, Iowa, and Warren, Ohio, but as neither of the two cities have com- THREE FINED $25 ON FIREARMS CHARGE Three men have been fined $25 each and a fourth is expected to have to pay the same sum this afternoon to Justice J. B. Cox for carrying firearms in game refuge No. 4C without permits. H. J. Tooles, barber of Orange, paid his fine on Sept. 24, and H. M. Bushey, a big contractor of Los Angeles, and C. Carle of El Toro paid theirs this morning. R. S. Paull of Santa Ana is scheduled to appear this afternoon before Judge Cox. Game Wardens W. E. Adkinson and E. M. Searcy, the latter of Carlstrano, brought in the complaints against the men. Searcy is a deputy game commissioner, he declared, and could arrest anybody anywhere in the state who violated the laws. Adkinson said he was having a lot of trouble preventing duck hunters, especially around Seal Beach, from violating the law in shooting before the open hours in the morning. Shooting is fair, but would be better if there were more water. L. V. Musselwhite of Inglewood was expected to appear yesterday before Judge Cox to answer such a complaint, but didn't come. The law specifies half an hour before sunrise as the time when shooting is first permissible. The season opened Oct. 1 and closes Jan. 15. NEW COMPLAINTS New complaints prepared today included: People vs. Clifford Brown and Otis Hayden, a felony, in escaping from officers on Sept. 12; Sheriff Sam Jerigan swearing to the complaint; People vs. Jack F. Rodman, embezzlement of a Dodge car of Lillian Jones on Oct. 1; People vs. Juan Barreca and C. Corona, possession of liquor. Complaints prepared yesterday included: People vs. Ray Edwards. King of Utah that Russia "will not send a single soldier into Germany no matter what happens there unless actually forced to take such action," said a dispatch from Moscow today. Claiming that a school book known as "Bi-alth Lessons, Book Two," by Alvin Davidson, contains a drawing showing "a simple still for distillation of whiskey," accompanied by a description of the process of distillation, and that the superintendent of a county school has caught some of his boys under the school house using this book as a guide in the construction of a still, J. B. Mills, superintendent of the anti-saloon league of Alabama, made a drive for abolition of this book from Alabama schools. Mills, together with Dr. W. B. Crumpton, appeared before the State Board of Education protesting the use of the book, stating that its evil influences are not reachable. The board, according to the state anti-saloon league chief, has agreed to abandon it in Alabama schools. HEADLESS BODY OF SMALL MAN FOUND PITTSBURGH, Oct. 3. The headless body of a small-built man was found this morning in a shed used as a girl's dressing room at one of the municipal swimming pools along the Monongahela river.
