TWENTY-SIXTH YEAR CALIFORNIA REGISTRY CLUB TO SHIP AUTOS BY CARLOAD New Service Announced For Transcontinental Tourists; Details. Motorists throughout the United States, and particularly in the southern part of California, are to be afforded a vast saving in the shipping of automobiles from point to point through an arrangement just completed by the Auto Club of So. Calif. It is pointed out that thousands of motor cars are shipped by individuals for touring purposes from the eastern Southern California, and from CARLOAD OF HUDSONS NOW ARRIVE EVERY OTHER WEEK Another carload of Hudson cars will arrive next week, according to R. W. Townsend, Inc., local distributors, and last week there was a carload to fill back orders. In fact, a carload every other week has been the rule for the past six months. The closed car season now opening is expected to witness heavy sales of this type of vehicle. TELLS ABOUT AUTO LIGHT ADJUSTMENT The Do's and Don'ts of the new state motor vehicle act so far as it applies to headlight adjustment were explained Thursday evening to the dealers of the county—car, accessories and ignition—by Frank A. Pim of the U. S. Bureau of Standards, who has been loaned temporarily to the state division of motor vehicles. Many of the public safety officers including city marshals, sheriff's office attaches, etc., also attended. Anaheim was well represented among the crowd at the Orange County Ignition Works, where the gathering was held. Pim told his hearers that therefore all adjustments had been made under the four-point law. Now they Details. Motorists throughout the United States, and particularly in the southern part of California, are to be afforded a vast saving in the shipping of automobiles from point to point through an arrangement just completed by the Auto Club of So. Calif. It is pointed out that thousands of motor cars are shipped by individuals for touring purposes from the eastern Southern California, and from Southern California to eastern points each year by owners who do not care to drive across the continent. In order to effect a saving for these individuals, the forwarding department of the motoring organization has just made arrangements with 44 points throughout the United States for shipping courtesies to be extended. This means that all auto owners who wish to transport their cars may do so through the Auto club and thus obtain a saving of from $50 to $150 on each machine. This does not apply in any way to commercial transportation. This saving is based on cars being placed in "pool" carloads whereby the car owner receives the entire benefit of the saving, no profits being absorbed by any of those various connections. The forwarding department of the club anticipates that it will handle approximately 2500 machines, east and west bound, during the season of 1923, which will mean a saving of approximately $125,000 to motorists. Six of the club representatives recently established throughout the east are automobile clubs, and at the majority of the other points the warehouses work in harmony with these clubs. Additional shipping points will be established in the near future, but at the present time the entire area or the continent is well covered by the stations. SPORTS AUTOMOBILE An ice chest, a buffet and a special locker to hold a golf bag are included in the equipment of a new sports model automobile. Its chassis costs more to build than any like-priced closed car in the world. Experts here and in Europe call it the finest chassis of its size. The Coach is solid, quiet, durable, and attractive in appearance. It is a favorite also with women. They like its riding ease, simple handling, and above all its positive reliability. Its cost will save you $250 to $800 over closed cars of comparable chassis quality. P. Hamm, who this week placed Harold Gliss, formerly of the Anaheim and Fullerton markets, in charge of the market at Taft. Ed. Burke, manager at Bakersfield, Guy Reemsnyder, manager at Sah Bernardino, L. Franklin at Santa Barbara, and Charles Beretta at Fullerton, are others who have been placed by Hamm. All but Franklin were once in Anaheim. All of these men have made good, too, Hamm declares. The reputation which Anaheim has acquired as the center from which the Appleby plan under which all these markets are operated spread, is becoming wider and wider, and each new market naturally calls on the local market to get it a manager, who understands the method. OPEN TRAFFIC JORDAN SALES UP 93 P. C., 8 MONTHS Paul Zens, one of the little group of four men who got together in a Pullman car a few years ago and decided to organize a motor car factory, and who is now one of the guiding lights of that factory, told J. E. Walter Co., local Jordan dealer, an interesting story of Jordan growth. Zens has been visiting in Southern California for a few weeks, taking his annual vacation. Reviewing the spectacular record made by the Jordan Co. during the first eight months of 1923, Zens states that a total of 10,147 Jordan cars were produced during the first six months of the year, and that this represented an increase over 1922 of about 93 per cent. This percentage of increase was upheld during July and August, with the result that the sales volume of the Jordan Co. has already exceeded $20,000,000 for the eighth month period. The total volume of business equals about 14 times the capitalization of the company. "It has been Jordan's greatest year," stated Zens. "And those who believe there is a certain amount of good luck attached to the figure 7 should remember that this is Jordan's seventh year in the production of the Jordan car. In that short space GAS DISTRIBUTORS PAY TAX SAYS U.S. Did you have the idea, fair or unfair motorist, that the gas tax which you really pay is deductible from your income tax? If so, disillusion yourself. In the classic words of Shakespeare, "it ain't." According to a decision of the government received by Revenue Collector Rex Goodcell in Los Angeles, a gasoline tax levied as a good roads tax is assessed against and collected from the distributors of the fuel and not the consumers. So the distributors deduct it from their income. DELIVER CARLOAD OF CHEVROLETS PER DAY Four carloads of Chevrolets, unloaded at the close of last week by the Frank P. Taggart Co., had been sold by Tuesday. All models but roadsters were among the number. The proportion of closed cars sold steadily is increasing, says Bill Hauser of the Anahelyn branch, and has been for a considerable time past. With the cool weather coming on more cars of this type than ever are expected to be put into the hands of purchasers. The reputation which Anaheim has acquired as the center from which the Appleby plan under which all these markets are operated spread, is becoming wider and wider, and each new market naturally calls on the local market to get it a manager, who understands the method. OPEN TRAFFIC LAW SCHOOL TO PUBLIC The chain of schools for the instruction of truck drivers in the new traffic laws, which the Truck Owners' Assn. of So. Calif. is sponsoring, will be opened to the general public, the association announces. Instead therefore of a 100 or so being benefited, thousands can be taught. It is announced further that District Attorney A. P. Nelson himself will have charge. The public need not feel that it will have to take the examinations, as the drivers will be expected to do. The speaker at last night's meeting asked that dealers sell only the 21 c. p. globe, because eventually it would be the only one permitted. At present it was not compulsory. With the cool weather coming on more cars of this type than ever are expected to be put into the hands of purchasers. The genuine Fisher body, guarding against rattles, squeaks and other sounds, makes this car an especially attractive one for family use, Hauser declares. The new models, tho cheaper than ever, have never been of better quality or more up-to-date. HARRY D. RILEY SALES Harry D. Riley reports the sale of a Studebaker coupe the past week to E. L. Parents are registering complaints that when they are attempting to cross highways or streets with babies in their arms, the motoring public gives them little consideration. Numbers of them have asked that the Auto Club of So. Calif. call the attention of auto owners to this situation. It is pointed out by club officials that motorists should give the same consideration to pedestrians that they expect pedestrians to give to them, particularly when these pedestrians are mothers carrying small children in their arms. Others report that some mothers have been forced to give up trying to cross certain boulevards or streets on their way home from the corner grocery because the auto drivers would not be courteous enough to slow up and allow them passageway.
