BELIEVE GERMANY WEATHERS CRISIS
By S. D. WEYER
(I. N. S. Staff Correspondent)
BERLIN, Sept. 26.—Germany was believed today to have weathered the worst of the crisis caused by Chancellor Stresemann's unconditional surrender to France in the Ruhr.
This success was due mainly to the fact that the prime minister, Von Knilling, of Bavaria, assented to abandonment of passive resistance. Everyone had expected Von Knilling to bolt the conference, owing to the hostility existing between Bavaria and Berlin. Contrary to general belief, the Bavarian premier bowled to the inevitable, realizing that to continue resistance to Franco-Belgian occupation was impossible.
A proclamation was issued, saying:
"The German president and government hereby are solemnly pledged before the German people and entire world that they will not agree to any settlement which will sever the slightest piece of soil from the German state. Liberty for our German compatriots and freedom of German soil are not subject to bargaining nor negotiations. In order to preserve the life of the nation and state we are faced with the bitter necessity of breaking off the combat which has been waged in the Ruhr."
Advices from Munich stated that there was dissatisfaction over the Berlin decision. The Bavarian situation was described as "explosive." The Bavarian fascist, led by Dr. Hitler, are making threats of trouble. Hessen reports that the communists in the Ruhr are becoming more and more active, agitating against cessation of passive resistance.
During the period of passive resistance and while the German government was pouring money into the Ruhr to support idle workers, France supported the reds. This support was withdrawn the moment Berlin decided to surrender.
The French military officials are now keeping the sharpest watch over the red leaders. They have suppressed all the communist troops in the occupied zone.

That the Plain Dealer, too, "do move" is illustrated in a letter of inquiry received by Mrs. Dora Fels, Cypress realtor, from a man in St. John, N. Dak. He picked up the paper containing her advertisement of Cypress land 1200 miles north of Winnipeg, Canada, he wrote, while up there doing exhibition flying. He was much interested in Cypress possibilities, and hopes to land in California in the future.

PRETTY GIRL HELD ON BIGAMY CHARGE
LOS ANGELES Sept. 26.—Charged with bigamy, pretty 21-year old Mrs. Julia Perry Bell Fisher, recently of Nebraska, was held in the county jail today under $3,000 bail, while authorities sought to unravel the tangled threads of the girl's several confessed marriages.
Mrs. Fisher was arrested on the same charge Monday, but was released when no charges were preferred against her.
Alvey J. Bell, one of the girl's husbands, was the object today of a county-wide search by deputy sheriffs who held warrants charging Bell with an attempt to kill his former wife and her latest husband, Mr. Fisher.
The charge was made from complaints sworn to by Fisher.
According to the latest husband, the girl admits marrying three men, but claims there was nothing irregular about the ceremonies. She says she married the first time in Omaha then came to California, and at Santa Ana married Bell, last July. She said she had not obtained her divorce at that time, but got it later. Then, when she left Bell, she said she did not think it necessary to get an annulment because she had never been legally married to him.
Three weeks ago she left Bell and went to live with Fisher, who comes from a prominent Long Beach family. Bell is charged with tracing his wife to Fisher's home and there assaulting both she and Fisher.

WRECK STORY TOLD BY UNDER OFFICERS
NORTH ISLAND, SAN DIEGO, Sept. 26.—Corroborative testimony was the rule at the board of inquiry here into the naval disaster.
The story has been told by officers in higher command, and the fundamentals as stated by them now needs only to be gone over repeatedly by the various commanders and navigators who, despite their status as defendants, have requested they be permitted to tell their version of the loss of 23 lives and seven destroyers.
Lieutenant Lawrence F. Blodgett, navigator of flagship Delphy, took the stand this morning and practically repeated the testimony given yesterday by Commander Donald Hunter, captain of the Delphy.
Blodget declared that a strong, temporary northward current, entirely unexpected and never before experienced by mariners off California at this season, set the squadron back fifteen miles short of where her propeller revolutions should have carried her, and 3 miles ashore.
He reiterated testimony of the radio compass bearings of the Point Arguello station had caused doubt in his mind but did not give rise to debate as to their dead reckoning position.
The visibility was good, he declared, until almost at the moment the formation leader struck the reef, a dense fog being banked against and obscuring the rocky shore.
GETS DIVORCE FROM IMPRISONED WIFE
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 26.—Paul V. Southard was legally freed by Judge Summerfield today from Lydia Southard, alleged "Bluebeardess," charged with slaying a former husband to obtain his life insurance.
She now is serving a life term in the Idaho penitentiary.
JOHNSON WINNER
WASHINGTON, Sept. 26.—Age jumped over youth here today when the veteran Walter Johnson, Senator hurler, bested Thurston, Chicago White Sox youngster, in a pitchers' duel, the Senators winning 1 to 0.
The White Sox touched the Washington slabman for six hits.
TIGERS WIN TODAY
NEW YORK, Sept. 26.—Detroit again defeated New York today by scoring five runs in the tenth inning, after the locals had tied the score in the eighth. The count was 8 to 3.
Bush was the victim of the Tiger onslaught. Holloway, replacing Francis in the eighth, held the Yankee.
SHOWS SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT
The condition of Harry Jayne, who was returned to his home from the hospital yesterday, is slightly improved today, following a more restful night than for a week. With persistent local treatments, it is hoped necessity for an operation will not arise. His brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Jayne of Mecca, Calif., arrived yesterday to remain a week or more.
