JUDGE WEST BACK ON BENCH MONDAY Superior Judge C. B. West was sent on the bench in Santa Ana. Attorney Frank Drumm of Bridge, however, will not take his seat as third judge for two or three weeks. M wneinchhte-nyAomgrtctaol weeks. Meanwhile the plan of attorneys, whereby thru stipulation each in turn acts as judge pro tem in civil cases will be continued until the court dockets are clear again. Such special stipulation has to be made in each individual case tried, according to Attorney O. T. Califor of Anaheim, and only such attorneys can be chosen as can get off and only for such days as they are at leisure. This "red tape" complicates the arrangement. Drumm is clearing up his affairs as fast as possible, but asked for a full month to do so, making that a condition of his acceptance. One of the most important actions in months came before the Court on Monday in the four cases against McGechan, Colecott, Thompson and Crowley, accused of criminal syndication. It is understood the cases will be continued because a ringleader who jumped his ball has not yet been caught. Getty finished his No. 13 at 4715 and got a 2500-barrel producer. The U. S. Royalties Co. No. 3 finished at 4732, is doing about 4000 barrels of 34.3 gravity oil. Huntington Beach passed a quiet week, the only exciting thing being a 500-barrel well brought in by the Republic Producers. The Republic's Crane No. 9 was put on production at a depth of 4050 feet. The Auburn Oil Co.'s No. 2 failed to make a flowing well, and is to be put on the pump. The well was given a production test at a depth of 4900 feet. The Gypsy Oil Co., one of the smaller concerns that got into Huntington Beach with the first rush, and battling with the problem of producing the top zone oil in the town lot section of the field, is staging a comeback. The Gypsy has spudded in on well No. 5, and will try to get some of Huntington Beach's deep sand production. The Sun Oil Co.'s is making preparations to make a production test on its No. 6 at 3125 feet. The well has been showing up rather good, and it is believed it will make a nice well. The Union Oil Co.'s Reed No. 1, now at 5215, is not showing any oil to speak of. The Reed well constitutes one of the deep test holes for the southeast section of Huntington Beach. The Shell Co. put the old Brea canyon field back on the map with a 150-barrel well producing 26 gravity oil. The completion was made on the Orange lease, formerly the property of the Columbia Oil Producing Co. South of the Graham-Loftus lease the Union Oil Co.is starting a well on the Tuffree property. The starting of this well is the beginning of some of the new and big things scheduled for the Brea-Richfield district, where leasing activity has been strong for several months. Things are pointing to Torrance becoming a great and extensive oil field. Important developments came about this past week with the good showings found by the Peterson-Barker well drilling near the site of the Union Tool Co.'s shops, and the exceptional good showings of the Fortuna Oil Co.'s well located southeast of the Midway Northern's No. 1.At about 4040 feet the Peterson-Barker well pulled a core that showed all its needs to show. The Fortuna WOMEN SEEK EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT COLORADO SPRINGS, Sept. 24.-Colorado Springs continued today to be the capital of the feminist world, following yesterday's spectacular pageant in the Garden of the Gods, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the first equal rights convention ever held in the world. With Mrs. O, H.P.Belmont, president of the National Woman's party, presiding, that organization met in secret session today to formulate plans for the national campaign for an equal rights amendment to the federal constitution that shall give "men and women equal rights throughout the United States, and every place subject to its jurisdiction." This amendment, according to the determined declarations of scores of nationally prominent women here to witness the pageant and participate in the woman's party councils, will be introduced in Congress next December. Vilson Anaheim—227 E. Center St. 1. At about 4040 feet the Peterson-Barker well pulled a core that showed all oil well needs to show. The Fortuna Oil Co.'s well at 3570 had a sufficient showing of oil to warrant the setting of pipe. The good showings in these two wells means a further increase of the productive area of the field, and gives the field a length of approximately eight miles. The Chanslor-Canfield Midway is being kept very busy at Torrance taking care of the offset drilling, and in doing this leads all other companies in the field for the number of wells drilling. On the Torrance lease the C. C. M. O. has located the 24th well, and has 15 wells drilling. With the increase of the Union Oil Co.'s discovery well at Compton to 1200 barrels, there is every reason to believe that the new field will be another Santa Fe Springs. The well is the best and biggest discovery well that has been brought in since the days of the Chapman well at Richfield. Santa Fe Springs started off with Meyer 3 a 100-barrel well, Montebello with Baldwin No. 1 a 450-barrel well, and Huntington Beach's Standard Oil well doing about 250 barrels. Developments are going ahead rapidly at Compton. In addition to the three wells started by the Union Oil Co., the Macmillan-Davis Oil Syndicate of Long Beach is about to start drilling; the General Petroleum has a rig up on the Gardena Land Co.'s property, and will be drilling in a few days; George F. Getty has spudded in on the Veitch property and C. C. Julian is getting close to 4000 feet. The Artesia Oil Co.'s test well at Artesia has attracted sufficient attention of three of the largest oil-producing companies in California to give their assistance in an advisory capacity and help the pioneering con- Announcement I WISH IT TO BE KNOWN THAT I HAVE OWNED THE ORIGINAL STAG BARBER SHOP FOR NEARLY FOUR YEARS AND HAVE NOW MADE IT A STRICTLY UNION SHOP.
