BERKELEY BOOSTS ITS WATER SUPPLY
BERKELEY, Sept. 21.—If a greatly increased water supply and a possible 500 percent increase in water pressure can help matters any, there will be no repetition in Berkeley o. the devastating fire that laid waste fully 50 residence blocks of the northern part of the city last Monday afternoon.
Fire Chief G. S. Rose announced today that City Manager John N. Edg had opened negotiations for the installation in the burned area of Berkeley of a gridiren system o. water mains similar to the system that has been recently installed in Hollywood and which, the chief said would provide at least three times greater water pressure than at present exists.
Search is being continued today for persons who have been missing since Monday's fire. Many Univ. or Calif. students have failed to appear at their classes since that time and a thoro check is being made in an attempt to locate them.
The dynamite crew continued today with its work of clearing up the devastated area. It is expected the entire burned district will be ready for reconstruction within two weeks.
RAPS HIGH PRICES OF DAIRY PRODUCTS
Charging that millions of pounds of butter are in storage in Los Angeles, and that prices are being artificially maintained by two large butter manufacturers and the produce department of a large Chicago packing company, G. E. Kitchen, local grocer, today scored the alleged "trust" agreement which existed. Butter could be sold at perhaps 20 per cent cheaper, Kitchen averred, and a fair profit realized.
The Anaheim voiced his surprise that more people do not buy ranch butter, which is just as good and sometimes better, in his opinion, and sells cheaper.

The same ring holds up the price of eggs, which now are 8c to 10c higher than a year ago at this time. The cool weather in September also has been a factor. Select eggs today were selling at 54c a dozen. Processed eggs, however, or eggs which have been covered with a coating of paraffine and then put into cold storage this year may prevent eggs from reaching 60c and 70c. Kitchen said. Cold storage eggs first were put upon the market Sept. 1.
