MAJORITY OF OKLA. LEGISLATORS MEET By ROBERT JAMES (L. N. S. Staff Correspondent) OKLAHOMA CITY, Sept. 20.—A majority of the members of the lower house of representatives will meet here on next Wednesday to consider charges of misconduct in office against Governor J. C. Walton under a call issued early today by Representative W. D. McBee of Duncan. Simultaneously with the announcement of the call, McBee claims to have the support of 61 members of the house, which is five more than a constitutional majority necessary to meet. The call was issued at a conference held in the Skirvin Hotel here which was hurriedly assembled early this morning when word was received that Governor Walton and Speaker Murray Gibbons of the house were preparing to call a session to consider the situation. "I am reliably informed that the governor has seen the handwriting on the wall," McBee said. "He realized that the call is legal and cannot be foretalled. For that reason, in a last desperate effort, a call was decided upon with the hope that some of the boys might be won over to his cause by a show of desire to remedy a situation that he has created." "The governor has decided to clear that capital building for the legislature. The folly of attempting to carry out his threat to arrest the members had been made apparent to him. I do not anticipate any trouble in assembling the members." OKLAHOMA CITY, Sept. 20.—A detachment of field artillery under command of First Lieut. Grimes, arrived late this afternoon from Kingfisher, Okla., to reinforce the troops now performing military duty in the capital. The arrival of the troops confirmed an exclusive statement of Governor Walton to International News Service earlier in the day, that more troops were being mobilized for duty in Oklahoma City. OKLAHOMA CITY, Sept. 20.—Gov. J. C. Walton, in an exclusive interview today, declared that additional troops are being mobilized to prevent any "treasonable assmblage" of the Oklahoma legislature. The governor asserted he "would brook no interference" in his plan to "clean out the Klan." An interview was granted late this afternoon after the governor arose. He had been up until long after midnight holding conferences with his lieutenants and political advisers. "I don't want to say how many more troops are being mobilized," the governor said, "but we'll have more troops on duty in Oklahoma—you can say that." Puffing on his corncob pipe and striding up and down his study in his 17th street home, the picturesque 6-foot tall executive stopped abruptly and commanded the reporter to "take this." He then dictated the following statement: "Under our constitution it is unlawful for the legislature to assemble in extraordinary session without the request of the governor, and it is a direct stroke of the Ku Klux Klan through their officers, members and leaders, such as W. City, and others to hamper and obstruct me in my present movement in cleaning up the many crimes of the Klan, committed in this state. "Extra troops are now being mobilized here, and I do not propose to permit this unlawful and treasonable assembly." The governor expressed himself as being pleased with the attitude with which his campaign against the Klan is being received in distant points of the country. "The press of Oklahoma is attacking me, but the editors of those outside of Oklahoma realize the justice of my fight against the "Invisible Empire." "I am going to fight the Ku Klux Klan until the very end of my term as governor."
