SIGNS UP ACREAGE Practically all of the former citrus fruit acreage of the Stewart Fruit Co. has been signed up for next year, and Manager W. H. Johnston's force no. is working on new acreage. Johnston ascribes his success to the fact that on advice of the company's main office shipments were made in as large volume as possible early in the season, when prices were at their best. The bulk of the local shipments of the concern were made in May and June, the manager declared today. The concern now is working on individual shipments only. The Stewart Fruit Co., as a whole shipped 1084 cars of deciduous and citrus fruit from California during the month ending Aug. 9. This represents a gross value of more than $1,500,000 from the more than 40 houses in the state. In districts where the company has been longest established its following of course is largest, Johnston said. "The voices of both Miss Bodkin and Miss La Pere are well adapted to the outdoor stage. Miss La Pere brings much dramatic experience to the part, having played on the stage. According to Merle Armitage, business manager, reservations are coming in fast for the first night from many Southern California cities. It is expected that 43,000 persons will attend the opening."
