Graded Soon
Plans for grading the Huntington Beach Newport Beach section of the coast highway now are being prepared by the State Highway Commission, J. L. McBride, County Engineer, said yesterday, and the work of grading, and graveling or paving will be pursued at as early a date as possible.
It is still undecided whether it will be possible or practicable to pave the new section this year, because of the uncertainty of the fills. If it is paved, concrete will be used.

It is still undecided whether it will be possible or practicable to pave the new section this year, because of the uncertainty of the fills. If it is paved, concrete will be used.
The section of the Placentia avenue extension between the Ball road and the State Highway, which was paved with concrete, is being thrown open in time for traffic tomorrow. The improvement is a convenient cut off for ranchers and for people of Placentia, Richfield, Yorba Linda and Olinda.
The Carbon road, which is being graded and oiled, will be finished within a week now. Instead of a quail trail, drivers will have a smooth and fairly straight road to Chino and other points in the San Gabriel valley.
Supervisor W. M. Schumacher has ordered graveled Rio Vista avenue, between the Olive and Wagner roads. The gravel will be drawn from the Olive pit near at hand.
McBride, on orders from the Board of Supervisors, is working on plans for the work at Placentia in Road Improvement District No. 23.
The Westminster boulevard will add about two and three quarters miles to the county's road system by Sept. 7. Work now is being completed.
The Supervisors have ordered widened Buena Park boulevard in Road Improvement District No. 24. The improvement will extend from Northam station to Orangethorpe avenue. The paving will be laid from curb to curb in Buena Park itself.
SELL SLAIN MAN'S EFFECTS
The effects of Nunzio Spamineta, consisting of two Ford cars and an electric plane, were sold for $850, Charles D. Brown, public administrator, announced in papers filed today. Spamineta was slain on a dirt road between Northam station and La Habra the body being badly hacked.
Wild Drivers Become 'Tame, Says Auto
Hard-boiled auto drivers are going out of style.
Most motorists now are really "soft-boiled."
Synthetic chauffeurding is a "was".
These deductions have been reached from recent investigations conducted by the safety and touring bureau of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
There was a time, it is pointed out when to operate a car in a hard-boiled and defiant manner, taking the right of way regardless of the rights of others, breaking through traffic at every opportunity, and cutting in, was considered not only smart but very stylish.
Synthetic or "diluted" driving of motor cars is largely giving way to experienced operation of automobiles and there are fewer bone-head operators because of their tential auto owners—the kindergarten students and have settled down like driving.
Weeks of investigation cause of accidents in the Southern California suited in the known "hardest" driver is er. In other words, new automobiles are more aggressive in their cars than are owners.
It is not only incumbent part of the new car accounts for large numbers with new car orities, but rather tendency toward when they begin to own.
Good Business to Treat Patrons Well
"Making batteries last as long as possible is not simply good business—it's a duty reputable battery manufacturers and dealers owe the motoring public," says L. H. McGee, distributor of the Westinghouse battery in Anaheim and vicinity.
Free testing and filling twice a month are given patrons of McGee's lively little shop at 419 West Centerstreet, whether they use Westinghouse batteries or not.

SALES STILL BOOMING HERE
August Record Month for Market—Studebaker, Ford in Demand
The Anaheim Certified Motor Car Market has delivered more than 28 cars so far in August and fully expects to deliver more than 40, according to Manager C. P. Hamm. This will be a record since the market was opened last February.
The Fullerton market, which Ham also manages, has delivered 20 cars and probably will deliver 50 all told, a record also for it.
Local dealers are enjoying a good business in spite of the mid-summer season. Much of this is due to the impetus given by the new thirteen-cent gas at a Los Angeles filling station.
ENFORCEMENT OF LAW TO BE RIGID
Counties of South Unite in Back of Concerted Movement
First steps toward the establishment of uniform law enforcement throughout the southern counties of California have been taken.
That a vital necessity exists for cooperation among the various smaller towns, cities, and counties of this part of the state. Is the opinion of traffic experts who are making it their business to see that motoring is conducted in a harmoullous manner.
At a recent meeting in Los Angeles county, officials of the various communities decided upon concerted action in various drives to be conducted in enforcing the new Motor Vehicle Act. With this movement the Automobile Club of Southern California has signified itself as being in sympathy.
As things now stand, it is pointed out, one city may start a drive on illegal headlights and fail in its efforts because the surrounding communities are not making similar enforcements of the law. Other towns fail in their law enforcement because they do not have the cooperation of the entire territory in their work.

More than 1,360,000 motor vehicle licenses were issued in Great Britain last year.
As things now stand, it is pointed out, one city may start a drive on illegal headlights and fall in its efforts because the surrounding communities are not making similar enforcement of the law. Other towns fail in their law enforcement because they do not have the cooperation of the entire territory in their work.
It is proposed that under the new system all counties and communities will be able to function on the same thing at the same time.
This will eliminate any hit-or-miss attempts to bring law-evaders to time.
As the plan now stands, every county will operate with a committee representing the various communities so that the counties and this general committee will agree upon and indicate the concerted movement of the entire counties in enforcing various sections of the Motor Vehicle Law, such as glaring headlights, obscured license plates, and other infractions.
An inter-locking system will then be worked out between the counties so that every county will be functioning at the same time.
Thus, no isolated community will be endeavoring to enforce one section of the Motor Vehicle Law at one time and another at another, and so on. Glaring headlights which will be checked in one community will then be stopped in all communities, and so the law evader will have very little chance to escape, it is pointed out.
Tire Not Only Spare Article That’s Needed
A spare tire isn’t the only spare part or accessory that is often a necessity, says C. J. Nenno of Nenno’s auto supply store. An extra spark plug, tube, bulb set, tow line, Farran-old fan belt etc., will save a lot of expense and worry sometimes and prevent a pleasure trip from being seriously marred.
Nenno by long experience knows quality articles, and has the local distribution for most of them. The policy of his store is to hold a steady trade.
There are 1800 motor cars and 500 motor trucks in Jugo-Slavia.

Motor Vehicle Output
In U.S. Less in July
Production of passenger autos and trucks in July showed a falling off as compared with June, dispatches reaching here today showed. The aggregate number of vehicles produced in the United States was 327,102 in June and 377,759 in July.
Detailed and comparative figures of States are not yet available.

PRODUCTION GAINS 68 PER CENT
According to estimates based on shipping reports received by the National Automobile Chamber of Commerce production of motor vehicles in July was 318,000. Though this is a 14 per cent slow down from June, a slight seasonal decline, compared with the extraordinarily large records of the previous months, compared with the corresponding month in previous years July set a new record gaining 29 per cent over July, 1922.
The weekly trend in production was upward during July, the last two weeks being larger than the first two weeks in the month.
Production of motor vehicles for the year ending July 31 totaled 3,525,000.
The output of cars and trucks during the first seven months of this year was 2,244,000, showing an increase of 68 per cent over the corresponding period last year.
Total will be larger than that of July.
Parts and accessories also are in demand. The stock has been considerably increased in recent weeks.
Indicating the unsettlement in the tire business, reports were current here this week, following visits of salesmen from Los Angeles, further cuts might be expected within the next few months. Estimates of the amount of the reduction coming went all the way to 25 per cent.
One representative, when reminded of the public statement of Harvey Firestone, that his company would make no further cuts, declared that that statement was no clue to the future market. This man declared that while stocks of crude rubber were diminishing, approximately 9,000,000 tires remained in storage, and that the dumping of tires on the market by small concerns "frozen out" by the big fellows was bound to take place again and again.
Different dealers received reports that one of the largest of the former 'Big Five' was negotiating for the purchase of another member of the group. The would-be purchaser already has absorbed one of the largest manufacturers in the business. The Annaheimers declared that the whole tendency was toward one or two big manufacturing concerns in whose hands most of the business would be concentrated with the idea of ending ruinous price wars.
For the half year ended June 30, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. reports net sales of $55,439,631, and net earnings before interest and other charges, of $6,967,079. After deducting interest and other charges, and adding the profits of the California subsidiary, a balance of $6,-314,318 was carried to surplus and made available for dividends.
