LA HABRA
Sorrowing friends and relatives and relatives gathered at the Community church Wednesday to pay last loving respects to Mrs. Catharine Proud, wife of E. E. Proud, prominent business man and a trustee of the local school. Mrs. Proud celebrated her semi-centennial birthday only one week before her death which occurred Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock after a lingering illness. Rev. Sheriden Phillips a former pastor but now of Highlands, California conducted the funeral service "Rock of Ages" was sung by the quartet of friends. Miss Ethel Lindell favored with a very fitting and beautiful solo.
The deceased is survived by a husband, E. E. Proud and six children, Lucien, Lela Stranberg, Leater, Wilburt, Lucille and Orville.
The church was filled to capacity and the Sunday school rooms were opened up to accommodate the big crowd of friends which included many out of town people.
Mrs. Proud had been a member of the local church for a number of years and had been an active worker in the different organizations of the church until her failing health prevented. Her ever present smile and cheery countenance will be missed but she has passed the vale of sorrow for beautiful big beyond.
Colliding with a truck and overturning same was an experience of a Ford coupe driven by Leaster Hillard of La Habra accompanied by Miss Alta Scott Wednesday afternoon. The truck which was loaded with lemons from the Benchley fruit house at Fullerton was driven by W. A. Wilkins of Los Angeles. Mr. Hillard was driving west, the truck driver thinking he was going to turn to curb speeded up thinking he would pass him, Mr. Hillard who had given the signal turned the button, the truck driver realizing the collision swerved to one side completely overturning the truck and tipping trailer. A shower of lemons and crushed boxes greeted the spectators and completely blocked the traffic on Central avenue in Center of LA HABRA

CITIES MAY DEVELOP
MORE WATER JOINTLY
(Continued From Page One)
sources of supply and the practicability of joint development and distribution; and this letter is merely
to bring the matter to the attention of the boards of trustees and
Kiwanis clubs of the county to ascertain whether or not they would
be interested in taking this matter
up in a more definite way. Please
consult your associates in this regard and write me how they feel
about it.
If the suggestion meets with favor
even with a few of the communities of the county, it will then be in
order to have a meeting of representatives of such clubs and boards of
trustees as may care to go into the
matter more fully and definitely.
While I am not fully informed as
to the facts, I feel very sure that
the matter of development of an
ample and permanent source of
water supply is quite as important
to most of the other cities and
towns of the county as it is to Santa
Ana. We have an ample supply of
water for all present needs, but it
is mere matter of arithmetical
progression to the point where the
growth of the population of Santa
Ana and vicinity and the development of industries will demand a
far greater supply of water than
can be had from present available
sources. It would seem a suicidal
civic policy for this city, or any
other city in Orange county similarly circumstanced with respect to
water supply, not to take time by
the forelock in such a vital aspect
of community development.
Thanking you for an early reply
with as much detail and definiteness as possible.
Very truly yours,
J. P. BAUMGARTNER
