LIGHT OIL SHOWING
IN S. O. DEEP TEST
By Edwood J. Munger
At 4:56 the Standard Oil's deep test well at Montebello on the Howard Smith lease has had some showings of light oil and is beginning to look rather favorable. The west end of the Montebello field is waiting for some one to open up production and the race for the honor has settled down to two companies, the Standard and H. L. Whiston.
There seem to be little doubt about Terrance becoming the next great oil field of Southern California. The daily production of the field has reached the 7000 mark and development is going ahead at top speed. An example of how fast things are moving in the new field is shown by the number of new rigs that shot up around the Midway Northern's new producer. In less than a week 15 rigs were erected. Striking examples of new progress at Terrance are the six new wells started by the Chanlor-Canfield Midway, the redrilling and deepening of the Getty Oil Co.'s No. I and the starting of additional wells. The starting of five wells by the Petroleum Midway, and two wells by the Superior Oil Co. Other companies that are starting wells are the Federal Drilling Co., the Globe Petroleum Co., the Hub Oil Co., the Midway Northern, the Selby-Root Oil Co., Sentinal Oil Co., Shell Co. and the Standard Oil Co.
At Compton the Union Oil Co. has succeeded in getting the liner used for a production test on the Calledner well deep sand. The Compton field has shown sufficient evidence of oil production in the top sand to insure a field, and there is little doubt that in a few months the Compton field will be in active competition to supply the crude for California's oil markets. C. C. Julian's well on the Murphy property is making splendid progress and should be on production within the next 24 days. It is to be regretted that C. G.

C. C. Julian's well on the Murphy property is making splendid progress and should be on production within the next 35 days. It is to be regretted that C. C. did not find the oil first at Compton and have the honor of being the first independent operator to find a new field in Southern California.
At Fullerton the Dolke-Thomas Oil Syndicate has made some real progress. The hole has been carried to $125 feet and a string of 8% landed at that point. The Dolke-Thomas Oil Syndicate is scheduled to open up a little field for Fullerton and bring back the boom days for oil to the little city that is now busy building fine homes and parks.
The best wildcat bet in So. Calif. today is in the Southland Petroleum Co.'s wild cat well at Ocean Park Heights. Drilling has reached the $400 mark and the showings to date make the well look very favorable. Showings of light oil have been noticeable from 2500 feet on, and there appears reason to believe now that it will be the next Signal Hill.
Anaheim is struggling ahead of get on the oil map of So. Calif. and the efforts will be ably boosted by the Standard Oil Co. The Standard has started on a well located on Wagner property three miles east of Anaheim and the drilling will be watched with tremendous interest. Leasing has been active in and around Anaheim for several months and large holdings have been taken by most of the Big S. The Standard it seems will do the pioneering.
Interest in the Santa Monica field is increased with the announcement that C. C. Julian has taken the Sawtelle-Santa Monica Oil Co. over and immediate action is guaranteed, Julian will try to shut off the water and place the well in a position for an effective deep test. The well has shown some oil and the field is considered with quite a good deal of favor.

JULIAN LEASES AT HUNTINGTON BEACH
(By Ellwood J. Munger)
At Huntington Beach a flutter of excitement passed over the field with the announcement that C. C. Julian had entered the field and from now on would be actively associated with its development. Julian started off by buying outright the properties and holdings of the Texcal Oil Co. The Texcal's holdings have great deep sand possibilities and no doubt Julian intends to develop the property in the same manner that his former development work has followed. Julian is careful in his selection of properties and will add nothing to his holdings but proven territory. Mr. Julian has spudded in on Texcal No. 3 and the drilling is scheduled to go ahead as fast as careful and conservative development will allow.
The Sun Oil Co. of Calif. is going ahead with its development program at Huntington Beach and will soon have a nice string of producing wells. Work was started a few days ago on Sun No. 6. Lou Courtney the man that drilled some of the big wells for the Union Oil Company at Brea has charge of the Sun Oil Co.'s field work.
The Standard Oil Co. continues its Huntington Beach development quietly, and brings in on an average of two wells a week. The past week the Standard put Huntington Beach B21 on production at 700 bbls, and Bolsa No. 13 one of the biggest wells of the month at Huntington was put on to 2050 bbls. The Bolsa well went to 4561 to get the big production and B21 was completed at 4309.
Union Oil completions this past week at Huntington netted two nice wells. On the Copeland lease No. 16 was finished in the deep zone at 5105 and started off at 750 bbls. Copeland No. 17 completed at 4950

STANDARD HOLDS UP INCREASED PRICES
CHICAGO, Aug. 16 — The Standard Oil Company of Indiana, serving eleven mid-west states, decided here today not to raise the price of gasoline from 15.4 cents a gallon to 20c, immediately, as had been contemplated. Instead, the directors voted to wait and see what action will be taken by Governor Mc-Master of South Dakota, who announced the state's price would be increased from 16 to 20c on Saturday.

made a 650 barrel producer. Field Supt. Becker of Brea took over the Huntington Beach field for the Union about a year ago and under his direction the Union Oil Co. has gotten some splendid results.
Montebello is on the anxious seat awaiting with breathless interest the outcome of H. L. Whistona wildcat well on the Bicknell property. Drilling has passed the 4200 mark and careful coring is being done to prevent the possibility of passing up any showings that would make an oil well.
