PLACENTIA
LACENTIA, Aug. 8.—(Sp.)—Two new business ventures were stated last week. The Feed and Ful Company which opened for business in the former Pugh-Cliffe Tool Works plant and the Quality Market in Daley's Rock Bottom Store.
Henry Tuffree, son of one of Placentaia's earliest pioneers and a prominent rancher of the community, and F. H. Harrison of Globe, Arizona, a friend of Mr. Tuffree, of many years standing, have purchased the property east and south of the Santa Fe depot, commonly known as the Pugh-Cline Tool Works plant. The property consisting of approximately 1 1/2 acres and including the large galvanized building and office building was owned by Sam Kraemer. The galvanized building whose dimensions are 125 by 42 feet is already being used in the feed and fuel business the men have opened there. The former office building will be remodeled into a pretty residence and will be occupied by the Harrison family; Mr. and Mrs. Harrison and their two young sons arrived from Arizona about three weeks ago.
Mr. Tuffree will be the buyer and outside salesman while Mr. Harrison will be the active manager of the business. Mr. Harrison has been a member of the board of supervisors of Gila county, Arizona for two years and an active member of the Arizona State Highway department and will no doubt be of great help in the advancement of the towns best interests.
The new company is putting in a complete stock of feed for retail and wholesale trade. A 15-ton platform scales is to be installed on the grounds are to be cultivated and beautified and a gas station erected on the boulevard. The entrance to the building is on the Richfield boulevard. On the north side of spur line of the Santa Fe facilitates the unloading or loading of supplies. The platform is to be built out to the tracks.
With two energetic business men at the head, sparing no effort to care of the public needs, the business has a promising future.

With two energetic business men at the head, sparing no effort to take care of the public needs, the business has a promising future.
J. Willhams of Ontario and N. F. Charmiel of Pomon are the new proprietors of the Quality Meat Market opening in the West Side of Daley's Rock Bottom Store on Saturday. The market in Daley's Store in Brea is owned by the new proprietors too.
N. F. Charmiel will be the resident manager and he and Mrs. Charmiel have taken an apartment until they can buy or build a home.
Both the proprietors profess to be pleased with the prospects of the location after every visit here.
Dan New, proprietor of the Sanitary Market, with his wife and two younger children have gone to camp on the desert in hopes of benefitting his health, which has been very poorly for the last couple of months.

Mr. and Mrs. Claude A. Porter and son Lee of Fullerton were guests at the J. B. Robison home on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Robeson and children motored to Orange County Park on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Hilgenfeld and able month on the sale of new Fords. With their proven ability in the selling of Fords, and thirty days in which yet to sell them, the company is not setting the goal at any small number.
The problem before the company is not so much the finding of buyers but of getting enough cars to satisfy the eager buyers.
The Ford plants are turning out about 6000 cars a day and cannot keep pace with the demand.
The Harmon Motor Company was second on the list for new Ford sales for June in the towns of this size in Southern California, New Mexico and Arizona.
Not only does this speak well for the company but reflects credit on the district.
It's only eight months since the Harmon Motor Company opened for business in their temporary quarters. And under many disadvantages they started the sales and service of Ford and Fordson and Lincoln cars which have been growing by leaps and bounds.
Mrs. John Wagner entertained the Last A Lot Card Club on Wednesday afternoon at her beautiful home. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Dave Lemka and Mrs. Homer Pyron.

STUDY BOUNDARIES OF COUNTY HARBOR
The County and the Irvine ranch may both obtain additional land if the method of determining the boundaries of the tidelands about Newport bay is the same one used at San Diego. The method there was to take the average of several high water marks. The bounds between the County’s and the Irvine properties also may be fixed. James Irvine, Jr., represented the ranch in a discussion before the Board of Supervisors.
The board, after an inspection at the County hospital, decided to purchase a new electric lawn mower.
The board voted to call another election for the Buena Park sanitary district, whose bonds could not be sold. District Attorney A. P. Nelson had a proposal to purchase the bonds below par, but the law will not permit that.
MEALY BUG GETTING BUSY, SAYS BROCK
Considerable acreage will have to be fumigated to prevent the further spread of the citrophilus mealy bug, according to A. A. Brock, county horticultural commissioner, who is sending broadcast a letter to packing house managers, fumigators etc., seeking their aid.
Boxes and ladders used in picking, as well as the clothing of pickers should be treated with distillate boiling water or fumigated in airlight fumigators for an hour or longer to prevent the pest being spread from infested ot healthy groves, says Brock.
A list of the infected groves is being prepared and sent with the letter so that houses can prevent the sale of oranges from such groves.
STAR WITNESS IN ALLEN CASE GONE
Frank Mayo is one of the most consistently popular stars on the screen today. In the years he has been playing in Universal features, probably a score of other actors have essayed to play similar roles, flashed before the public for a day, and been forgotten. But Mayo has enjoyed unbroken popularity, with a long series of successful pictures.
Mayo’s career is an interesting example of the reward or real ability coupled with the sincere purpose on the screen. Not content with a modleum of success, not carried away by dazzling stardom, Mayo has mistely and faithfully striven to put his best or a little better in each succeeding picture.
Living a clean, vigorous life, a devotee of outdoor sports, Mayo first of all commands respect and adulation from audiences for this wholesomeness. But in addition he is an actor, pure and simple, of the first class.
Never before in his career has Mayo had the opportunity to display the intense side of his dramatic ability which is given him in “The First Degree,” his latest Universal starring vehicle coming to the United tonight.
