HUNTINGTON BEACH HAS REACHED PEAK Dr. Ellwood F. Munger While Huntington Beach did not do anything spectacular doing the past week a number of nice producers were brought in never too late. Huntington Beach is maintaining a daily average in excess of 135,000 barrels and it is believed that the peak of production for the field has been reached. However some more startling deep sands developments in the northwest section of the field may upset this dope. The Sun Oil Co., of California seems to be getting under way and taking a place among the oil developers of the Huntington Beach field. The Sun Oil Co. has just completed and put on predation its No. 4 at 2750 feet and brought in a 550 barrel wool. In consideration of the top sand production of the Huntington field this is a very good well. Lew Courtney, a former Union Oil man, is looking after the tolerate of the Sun Oil Co. The Standard Oil Co. has placed two good Huntington Beach producers on with the completion of A-15 a 1250 barrel well and B-22 a 560 barrel producer. The big wall on the A lease was completed at 1500 feet, and the 560 barrel well on the B property at 1980. Both wells are making better than 24 gravity oil. The Union Oil Co. adder three producers to the Huntington Beach field two on the Copeland property and one on the Brocks lease. On the Copeland lease No. 12 at 5097 looks like a 700 barrel well. No. 16 Copeland completed at 5166 will probably make a 500 barrel well. Brooks No. 1 at 5100 is a small well at best, it started off at a 150 barrels. The new Torrance oil field is seething with excitement over the big well brought in by the Midway-Northern Oil Co. The Midway’s well extends the field to the southeast, and gives it a proven length of more than seven miles and makes it look like on of the coming big oil fields of Southern California. W. Marland, president of the Marland Oil Company, one of the largest concerns in the field, to cease production for a month. In an address to more than a hundred refiners from Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, New Mexico and Colorado, meeting here to solve problems confronting their industry, Marland recommended that they follow his lead in cutting down production and thereby "conserving oil for the future, when the consuming public will need it badly." YALE MEN EARN COIN IN SUMMER NE WHAVEN, Conn., Aug. 1.—Yale students have earned $89,599-68 this summer, according to estimates by the Bureau of Appointments, the Yale University department that has to do with students who are working their way through college, but comparatively few of the students are taking work as sales agents these days. "In spite of the liberal return for selling work," says the bureau head, "a decided drop in the drawing power of this type of employment has been noticed. Student occupations this summer range from stewards and deckhands on ocean-going vessels to hotel managers and Chautauqua performers, but the popular proposition is tutor-companions, one student now being on his way about the world on such a mission, after getting University permission to be away a year. FINISH HARLOW NO. 3 5400 BARREL WELL The biggest well on Signal Hill since the advent of the famous Andrews well of the Shell Company was completed a few days ago by the Petroleum Midway Co. on the Harlow property. Harlow No. 2 finished the deep sand at 5058 in a 5100 barrel well producing 28 gravity oil. The Petroleum Midway has played an important part in the development of Signal Hill since the opening of the field and the Harlow well simply marks another of the company's successes. T. J. Crumpton has charge of the Petroleum Midway's field operations and it is understood that under his directions the company has made an enviable record for the past two years. The world's deepest oil producer will go to Signal Hill and will be the property of the General Petroleum Corp. It is the intention of the General Petroleum to continue the drilling of the Clock well to at least 6000 feet and when completed at that depth it will eclipse anything that has ever been completed either the California or the foreign field. A few Roumanian producers get oil at 5600 feet. The record deep well of the General Petroleum has been drilled with the rotary and the success of the project is a reflection upon the able management of field superintendent Cooley and his able organization. Robert Moran one of California's leading geologists and petroleum engineers is going to try a hand at development work. Mr. Moran heads a company that will drill a well on Atlantic-ave near Spring-st, Long Beach. W. O. Todd a former Standard Oil man has the contract for the drilling of the Moran. With Moran heading the engineering work and Todd doing the digging a combination has been formed that should get some splendid results. It is understood that the progress of the well will be watched with a great deal of interest. Harry C. Noonan did not make much of a stir when he broke into the oil game at Long Beach, but the way his well is going down is exalted. COUNTESS FINDS HUSBANDS HAPPY (By International News Service) NEW YORK, July 31.—"American husbands are happy—and they have good reason to be. "Your American women are wonderful. They are the world's greatest guarantee of the future of civilization." Lady Marilina Sever Bocu, Romanian noblewoman, friend of Queen Marie and noted charity worker, was the speaker. She was interviewed just before the Inner France, on which she had booked passage, sailed for Europe. So impressed was she with America and Americans during her three months' stay here that she plans to return in the Fall. And Queen Marie, she said, probably will come with her—to thank Americans personally for the manner in which they went to the aid of Rumania's widows and war orphans. THANK PLAIN DEALER Plain Dealer, Anaheim, Calif. The Anaheim Concordia at a recent meeting decided to extend many thanks to your paper for your splendid co-operation at our Fourth of July celebration and notably for the direct wire connection with the Dempsey-Gibbons fight. Yours very sincerely. ANAHEIM CONCORDIA. R. KRASTEL. FRED J. HORBACK. Tomorrow is the Falkenstein Wide Cle Atlantic ave near Spring-st, Long Beach, W. O. Todd a former Standard Oil man has the contract for the drilling of the Moran. With Moran heading the engineering work and Todd doing the digging a combination has been formed that should get some splendid results. It is understood that the progress of the well will be watched with a great deal of interest. Harry C. Noonan did not make much of a stir when he broke into the oil game at Long Beach, but the way his well is going down is exciting considerable comment. Bob took another referral Standard Oil man is doing the drilling and some 200 feet of hole was made in a few weeks. The Noonan well will extend the southern slope of the Hill field. Certain reports and actual conditions on the northwest extension well seem to be at considerable variance. The reports would lead to the impression that the Northwest Extension is about to pull a gusher producer. From 1925 to 6025 a 100 foot formation has been carrying an appreciable amount of gas. As far as there barag any oil showings, there have been none of any importance. The Paramount Oil Company's well across from American-ave has passed the 5025 foot mark and continues to drill in hard sand. It would seem that if production is to be obtained it will take some deep drilling to get it. The Shell Co. of Calif. brot in a nice producer with the completion of Goddard No. 2 a 4000 barrel well. The Goddard well is now one of the largest producers of the Shell group and was finished in the deep sand at 5285. The big Goddard producer is flowing 27.8 gravity oil and is one of the biggest wells of the week at Signal Hill. Among the smaller producers whose wells were worthy of mention this past week was the 900-bbl well completed by the Trojan Oil Co. The Trojan it will be remembered took over about a year ago the property and holdings of the Crest Oil Co. The completion of the Crest well formerly known as 3-1 yielded a 900 barrel producer, doing 26 gravity. The Illustrated Review has disposed of its No. 5 to a company to be known as the West Coast Crude Trust. The Hardam-Bradock Drilling Co. has the contract for the completion of the well. TRAGEDY FOLLOWS FALL OF "MONK" LIMA, Ohio, Aug. 1—The curtain has descended on the last act in the love tragedy of "Jerry, the Monk," at the Eaurot Park Zoo here. Jerry is mained for life. His injuries include a bruised heart. Recently Jerry was placed in a cage with Jocko and Sis. Jerry's advances to Sis were resented by Jocko, who proceeded to chew Jerry's hand. Infection developed and veterinarians were forced to amputate Jerry's left hand at the wrist. Jerry spent much time looking at his stub of an arm. He was muzzled, given a stick of chewing gum and replaced in his cage. YALE STUDENTS MAKE MINERAL "FINDS" (By International News Service) NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 1—Rural Connecticut is sitting up and taking notice. Students of Shoffield Scientific school, at Yale University, are out on field work, as part of their metallurgy course, and each day make remarkable finds. Included therein are pitch-blende at Branchville, tungsten at Long Hill and silver at Cannondale.
