Miscellaneous VILLA WAS SLAIN IN COLD BLOOD EL PASO, Tex., July 24. (Copy right, 1923, by international news Service)—"Francisco (Pancho) Villa, Mexico's 'Robin Hood,' was murdered out a chance for his life." Louis Macdonald and Walter Wilson, American mining living in Parral, today gave the first eye witness account of the assassination. "Wilson and I saw Villa murdered—heard his cries of agony as the first volley of shots riddled his body and heard the cries of strangers as his murderers as they emptied their revolvers into his prostrate body." MacDonald said. "I saw Villa driving up the avenue. 'As I watched, the door of a nearby house suddenly opened and six men, carrying rifles and pistols, ran out. 'At this moment Villa, sitting at the wheel or his automobile, was laughing at some quip of a companion.' "A voiley of shots rang out. "The machine swerved from his path. A moment later it crashed, head-on, into a tree. "As the former handit chief lay behind the wheel of his wrecked car, the six murderers advanced, stirring as they came." "They were screaming as they advanced—oaths marked every step." "Villa uttered one cry—a cry of pain. His companions, wounded and trapped, were pleading for mercy." "Standing above Villa, the six men continued to pour their lead into him and his alces. Then—they turned and calmly walked away. As they reached the shuttered house, from which they had come, one of them, apparently the leader, turned and fired a single shot at Villa. Then" Market Reports GRAINS SELL OFF STEADILY CHICAGO, July 24. Despite bullish crop reports grains sold off steadily today and at the close were well under yesterday's lost sales. There was little indication of firmness, save for a brief flurry immediately after the opening. Views that wheat has gone as low as it will were given small credence. Offerings of wheat on the cash market were large in spite of reports of slow movement. Wheat closed ½% to 1½% lower. Corn finished unchanged to ⅔% off. Oats was ¼% to ⅔% off. Provisions were generally lower and trading dull. STOCKS CLOSE WEAK NEW YORK, July 24. The stock market closed weak today. The reactionary movement continued in the last hour, comprising practically all classes of stocks. Copper shares which escaped with early unsettlement, were marked down from one to two points. Railroad stocks continued heavy. Petroleum issues also were heavy. Pan-American receding nearly 3 points to 62, and California Petro. a function to 21 1-4. Government bonds unchanged; rail road and other bonds irregular. Sales today, stocks $91,400 shares; bonds $7,819,000. EASTERN CITRUS FRUIT (By International News Service) NEW YORK, July 24.
