AMALGAMATED AND MILEY VIE FOR HONOR
(By Ellwood J. Munger)
When E. J. Miley brought in at Long Beach a 14,000 barrel well in the northwest section of the field on the Mills property the oil operators of the beach field were pleasantly surprised. Miley-Mills No. 4 was completed at 4700 feet and is today the biggest oil producer in the field. A year ago when E. J. Miley closed a contract with the John P. Mills organization to drill on the extreme northwest section of the field many operators thought that E. J. was treading dangerous ground. However Mr. Miley now has the pleasure of presenting to the Mills organization and John P. Mills one of the biggest oil producers Signal Hill yet has to its credit.
Among the smaller independent producers at Long Beach the Anchor Oil on the Osborne property the Anchor Oil Co. has just completed a 2200 barrel well producing 23 gravity oil.
The Barthelame Oil Syndicate has another nice well to its credit. The third producer known as No. 2 was finished at 4317 feet and is making a thousand barrels, 28 gravity oil.
The McKeon Drilling Co. created something of a surprise a few days ago by bringing in a 900 bbl well in what has been supposed to be Volstead territory. It was completed on the Caudrey-Thorpe property, near which are dry holes, the Downs-Butterfield and the Keck Syndicate. The Caudrey-Thorpe well was completed at 3548. It is understood that the well was secured only by the most careful and painstaking core barrel work, under the supervision of Vernon King a young geologist who has made a most favorable record at Long Beach and Santa Fe Springs. It will be remembered that the famous Hamilton is a product of Mr. King's geology.
The Henderson Petroleum Syndicate got its share of the new production on the Hill this week when it completed a 2300 barrel well on the Lekas lease. Lekas No. 2 is doing AMERICAN RETURNS TO HEAD CANADIAN RAILWAYS SYSTEM

JUDGES RULE ON AUTO RIGHT-OF-WAY
LOS ANGELES, July 19—That machines traveling on the right have not the right of way over machines on the left unless they reach the intersection first and are traveling at a rate of speed within the law, is the ruling of the district court of N.Y., "Epoca" no uojojoop w u susddu the case of L. W. Donat and H. T. Dillon for damages growing out of an automobile collision at Bakersfield.
The decision of the superior court which gave judgment, to Donat, was reversed on the grounds that although the increased asses of Anaheim realty, and improvements are even larger than pated, County Audit indicated today.
After a special Jerome conservative jump over the year 1900 or more than 200 This, while it can be the jump between March 1, 1921, among $85, is many times the previous fiscal year 1, 1921. Between March 1, 1921, there $485,000 on a prewar $3,017,000.
If Anaheim's final past fiscal year end year are changed, it rather than downv clared.
Jerome didn't get the board of superintendent of equal day of this week, to work cut the valtail.

The Henderson Petroleum Syndicate got its share of the new production on the Hill this week when it completed a 2300 barrel well on the Lekas lease. Lekas No. 2 is doing almost 30 gravity oil, and its output of 2300 makes it one of the nice high gravity well of the field.
The Petroleum Midway made the fields section of the northwest district of the Long Beach field look good with the completion of Fields No. 1, a 3000 barrel well. Drilling the Fields producer to 5000 feet and putting it down into the deep sands was the factor that made a real oil well out of it. The Petroleum Midway has a rather heavy program mapped out for Signal Hill.
The Shell Company of California completed a nice well on the Coseboom lease with No. 2 at 2700 barrel producer. It was finished at 5251 and is producing a 24 gravity product.
A well at Santa Fe Springs has to be a 15 or 20 thousand barrel producer to get even honorable mention now. On the Eagle property Miley completed a 15,000 barrel well that is producing 35 gravity oil "pure quail." Eagle No. 1 shows what happens to an oil producer at the Springs when the deep Meyer sand is opened up. The Eagel well at 4700 was one of the biggest wells ever brought in in the Bell sand a year ago, and until last April it continued to do better than 1200 barrels. A thousand and 12 feet more made the difference of a 1200 bbl well and a 15,000 bbl producer. To conform with the practice of the field Miley has cut the big producer down to 6500 barrels.
The Amalgamated Oil Company's Green No. 2 completed at 4741 is believed to be the greatest producer of high gravity oil the springs field has yet yielded. For 42 hours this great well sustained an output of 14,000 barrels. The gravity is the usual 35. The Amalgamated Oil Company completed another nice well yesterday when the No. 1 on the Dewenter property was completed at 4700 feet and went on at 4500 bbls. 34.5 gravity.
The Melezer-Louis interests 3000 barrel well attracted some attention at Santa Fe Springs. Redrilled and finished in the Meyer sand at 4665 the Melezer-Louis well is making 34.6 gravity product and is one of the field's big fine oil producers.
LOS ANGELES, July 19.—That machines traveling on the right have not the right way over machines on the left unless they reach the intersection first and are travelling at a rate of speed within the law, is the ruling of the district court of U.S. Supreme Court no longer wu jsuodd the case of L. W. Donat and H. T. Dillon for damages growing out of an automobile collision at Bakersfield.
The decision of the superior court which gave judgment, to Donat, was reversed on the grounds that although the machine in which Donat was riding was to the right of the automobile driven by Dillon when the two collided at a street intersection, the Donat machine was traveling at a rate of speed in excess of the law.
The decision was written by presiding Judge Conrey and concurred in by Justices Houser and Curtis.

PROPERTY VALUES INCREASE MORE THAN ONE-FIFTH
The increased assessed valuation of Anaheim realty, personal property and improvements as of March 1 will be even larger than had been anticipated, County Auditor C. C. Jerome indicated today.
After a special compilation today Jerome conservatively estimated the jump over the year before at $1,068,-000 or more than 20 per cent.
This, while it cannot compare with the jump between March, 1922 and March 1, 1921, amounting to $1,580,-885, is many times the increase of the previous fiscal year ending March 1, 1921. Between March 1, 1920 and March 1, 1921, the gain was only $485,000 on a previous valuation of $3,017,000.
If Anaheim's final figures for the past fiscal year ending March 1 this year are changed, it will be upward rather than downward, Jerome declared.
Jerome didn't get the books from the board of supervisors, sitting as the board of equalization, until Monday of this week, and hadn't begun to work out the valuations yet in detail.
Prospects at the valuations set by County Assessor James Sleeper were few and would have made little difference in the totals of Northern Orange-co, even if granted.

PATIENCE CEASED
TO BE A VIRTUE
If this is the first suit, Louise Pillsbury waited 14 years to bring it against William H. Pillsbury. The complaint was filed today and desertion is charged.
The two were married at Lake City, Colo., on Oct. 1, 1903, and separated six years later. There is no community property, but the wife alleges that the defendant is worth $30,000. She asks a reasonable sum for the support of herself, attorney's fees, permanent alimony and such other relief as the court may grant.
