TWENTY MEMBERS ADDED TO W.R.C.; MORE COMING ANAHEIM branch of the W.R.C. is steadily growing and at the meeting yesterday, 23 members were initiated. Names were balloted upon and more members will be taken in at the next session. Mrs. Emma J. Shear of Santa Monica was present and gave a talk on patriotism. She stressed the points of child welfare, and helping out in all patriotic work. Two comrades were present and among the guests were one from Whittier. A transfer was accepted from North Dakota. Presidents of the other Corps in the county were present and all gave a few complimentary words to the baby corps, as Anaheim corps is called. Mrs. Kuenzil was present from Fullerton, Mrs. Carrie Lewis, Orange; Mrs. Carrie Wedgewood, Santa Ana, Mrs. Kuenzille presented the local lodge, with a red, white and blue altar cloth. Mrs. C. R. Mawe presided at the meeting. Other officers present were Mrs. F. Pressel, Mrs. L. Goble, Mrs. Oelke, Mrs. O. Hill, and Miss Ida Hughes. Refreshments were served in the banquet room after the meeting for 80 members and guests. Ohio Picnic Soon Thursday July 26 is set for the Greater Ohio picnic which will be staged at Orange-co park. This is the first annual picnic for the county Luncheon and Supper A picnic party enjoying two meals Sunday on the sands and rocks at Arch Beach was composed of Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Carpenter, J. F. Curtis and son, Harold, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Fuquay, Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Bunyard, Miss LaRue Reeves and Mr. Leonard White. Much of the time was passed in studying marine life which is most interesting and plentiful at this season. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter drove to Long Beach Saturday evening, and Mr. Curtis and son returned with them for the pleasant Sunday occasion. SURPRISE FOR FRIEND UPON RETURN HOME A DOZEN Anaheim ladies enjoyed the hospitality of Mrs. R. W. Marvin yesterday afternoon when she entertained a party of friends at the home of Mr. Earle Phillips, N. Claudina-st. The affair was a complete surprise on Mrs. Phillips as she had been out of town for the day and when she returned, she found the guests awaiting her return. They had the house prettily decorated for the occasion. A pretty color scheme was carried out in pink and white and sweet peas furnished the floral decorations. Mrs. Barley Irvins, of Denver, guest of Mrs. Phillips entertained with several piano selections. A guessing game was also enjoyed and with merry conversation, the afternoon hours were happily whiled away. Ice cream and cake were served at four thirty. Guests included the Messenger Society Mrs. C. R. Mawe presided at the meeting. Other officers present were Mrs. F. Pressel, Mrs. L. Goble, Mrs. Oelke, Mrs. O. Hill, and Miss Ida Hughes. The Buckeyes are requested to bring their lunch and enjoy the big picnic dinner. A program committee has mapped out an interesting program and there will be something doing all the time. The affair will start in the afternoon and continue during the evening hours. Dancing is also on the program. All who hear about this event are asked to pass the word as this is going to be a great reunion. Social and Rehearsal There will be choir practice of the Christian church tomorrow evening at the tabernacle on the corner of Helena and Chestnut-st. Mr. Howard Potter, director, is anxious to have all members present and on time. A social hour will be enjoyed after the practice and refreshments will be served. Leave for New Fields Rev. and Mrs. Coe Wellman have returned from a stay with friends in Los Angeles. If all goes well, they plan to leave Saturday for Mexico where they will take up their missionary work. Big German Baptist Party Three hundred members of the Christian Endeavor of the German Baptist church and their friends will gather tomorrow evening at Huntington Beach for a jolly good time. Dips in the plunge and other amusements will feature the meeting. The trip will be made from Anaheim at six o'clock. Pastor Returns From East Rev. H. G. Schmelzer is back ir. Anaheim again after a visit to Fort Wayne, Indiana where he went as a delegate to the Lutheran convention. While in the east, Rev. Schmelzer made many delightful visits with former friends and relatives. He stated he encountered considerable hot weather and is glad to be back in Anaheim. W. H. M. S. Tomorrow Women's Home Missionary of the White Temple will meet tomorrow afternoon at the home of Mrs. Claude West 222 E. Alberta-st. Election of officers will take place and a good program will be given. Sewing Class Meets The Loyal Workers of the Christian church will have an all day meeting at the Tabernacle tomorrow. A pot luck luncheon will be served at noon. The afternoon hours will be devoted to a quilting party. Every member of the church is cordially invited. Pot Luck Supper The Knights of Pythianis and Pythian Sisters will have a pot luck supper this evening at the Odd Fellows hall at 7 o'clock. Members of the Fullerton lodge and their wives will be guests. The meetings will be held immediately after the dinner. Coworkers in Picnic Employees of Falkenstein's store and their husbands and friends to Huntington Beach last evening where they enjoyed a jolly picnic. They left immediately after the store closed and the first round of pleasure was a dip in the plunge. Games on the sand occupied the hours and before the party left for their home, all indulged in the eating of "hot dogs". Guild Tomorrow The Helper's Guild of St. Michael's Episcopal church will meet tomorrow afternoon at the Guild hall. Final plans will be made for the coming bazaar. Bonnat has been elected president of the Terpsichore club, popular dancing club of Anaheim. Vincent Bruce is vice president; C. W. Chamberlain, secretary; P. G. Smith, treasurer. Mrs. James Reynolds motored to Covina Saturday and enjoyed dinner with her sister Mrs. D. J. Shults and family. Mr. H. Senn was a Brea visitor Monday from Newport Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Brown of Brea were Long Beach visitors Sunday afternoon. They brought their little niece home with them for a few days visit. Sunday was a day well represented by Brea Folk at Laguna Beach. The annual meet of the K. P. Those who attended were the Shupperts, Olmsteads, Stickneys, Sales, Winchels, Carpenters, Heningins and many other families. Many enjoyed a dip in the surf. Mr. and Mrs. M. Chambers motorized to South Park Sunday to join the Southern California College reunion which meets annually for the purpose of renewing friendship and exchanging reminiscences of years ago. Everybody takes lunch and spreads out on long tables and oh, you can imagine the rest. There were about fifty student friends present besides many ex-ministers which come and enjoy eating chicken, biscuits and such like as the old Downeyites know how to make. J. C. Shepherd of Fullerton was there with his basket well filled and many others. A day well spent. Miss Alice Winchel returned home Saturday after several weeks visit in Los Angeles with her relatives. She and her uncle Mr. Bird went to Chino tonight to attend a surprise birthday party. King at Hollywood. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Blatz motored to San Diego on Saturday returning home on Monday. They went to all the interesting places around San Diego and also motored to Tia Juana. Mrs. R. H. Rock was an Anaheim visitor on Monday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. I. D. Jaynes came home on Monday morning from Lake Arrowhead where they had spent several days. PORTLAND, Ore., July 18.—Mrs. Ada B. Comstock, president of the American Association of University Women, submitted her resignation at the close of her annual report read to the association here today. The announcement came as a distinct surprise as she had served but 18 months of a three year term. Miss Comstock was recently elected president of Radcliffe College. Presents Dishes The Coe and Esther Wellman Legion Fund being sponsored by the Epworth and Senior league of the White Temple, is growing rapidly and the latest donation is a 48-piece dinner service. Four ladies, Mrs. E. A. Collins, Mrs. J. K. Langdon, Mrs. Henry Wagner and Miss Bella Walker have been meeting at the Walker home and have painted a gold band around the edge of the pieces. When it was learned that Rev. Wellman and his wife would have to take their disheo, the league thought this would be a practical gift. The dishes will be on display thin evening in the cradle roll department of the White Temple. A number of intimate friends of these young people, who are not members of the league, have donated useful gifts which will find a welcome place in the new home in Mexico. A Spanish Sunday school department in Los Angeles has donated $50 for the purchase of a rug. Other donations will be received at the church this evening and up to Saturday. Interesting Announcement Anaheim friends have received cards announcing the engagement of Miss Coral Elaine Jensen to Mr. Ellis A. Eagen. The wedding will be an event of early September. Miss Jensen was a former Anaheim girl and is a graduate of Anaheim high school. She is the daughter of Mrs. Agnes Jensen. The family moved to Los Angeles several years ago. Miss Jensen is a member of the Phi Mu sorority of the University of So Calif. Mr. Eagen is a graduate of the college of law of the same institute and is now practicing law in Los Angeles. He is a member of the Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity and of Zeta Kappa Epsilon. Miss Jensen is a niece of Mrs. J. E. Baker of Nutwood Station, near Anaheim. BUSINESS GIRL'S BECOMES BRIDE OF SANTA ANAN SLIPPING away to Uplands, yesterday, Miss Alice V. Robinson and Mr. Thomas Scott of Santa Ana were married at the Presbyterian manse by Rev. James Stone, former pastor of the Anaheim Presbyterian church. No Anaheimers attended the ceremony. The bride wore an attractive three piece suit of grey with accessories to harmonize. For the past several years Mrs. Scott has been making her home with her sister, Mrs. G. W. Sandilands on E. Center-st. She has been connected with the post office department for the past thirteen years and for several years has been assistant postmaster, resigning recently to become the bride of Mr. Scott. As a business woman, Mrs. Scott has endeared herself to many friends for her wonderful character and sweetness of disposition. Her presence will be greatly missed by those whom she has been associated with. She has been complimented with many lovely affairs following the announcement of her engagement several months ago. Mr. and Mrs. Scott left immediately after the ceremony on a motor trip to parts unknown and upon their return will reside in Santa Ana. Mr. Scott was a former Anaheim business man and moved to Santa Ana several years ago where he took a responsible position with the Santa Fe railroad. "Skeeter" Bill Robbins, the famous puncher, who rode Rancho Villa, the untamed king of wild horses is in charge of the contests. Rancho Villa is among the horses who will be on hand.
