URGES GUIDANCE FOR RURAL MAIDS
PORTLAND, Ore., July 12.—In a stirring address, Dr. O. L. Hatcher, educator of Richmond, Va., urged the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs in session here to guide and protect rural girls who annually come to cities each year in search of employment.
"We can perform no greater service for both the girls and business than to get in touch with them before they leave the country, direct them into lines of training and act as 'big sisters' after they come to the city," Dr. Hatcher stated.

WISE IOWA MULE IS DEAD-AGED 45
(By International News Service)
BLANCHARD, Iowa, July 12.—"Jennia," believed to have been one of the "oldest mules in captivity," is dead, and Blanchard has lost another celebrity.
Jennie passed away at the hearty old age of 45 after more than forty years of work.
When Jennie was sent to town without a driver she sometimes threw a shoe. On such occasions instead of going to the hitching post, as was her wont, she would go to the blacksmith shop and bold up her foot to be shod. In rhyme she would go to the grocery store and whimmy until sprayed with fly killer. She had two pet tricks, one of tempting dogs close enough to kick them to anthereens and the other of running away at times when she felt heavy work was due.

Such an array of fancy guest towels, all of different sizes, design and material, gives the impression of being intended more for display than for service. A guest might feel reluctant about disturbing them. One towel conveniently placed is more appreciated by a guest. If there is more than one guest, the towels for their use should be uniform in design or decoration.
