LITTLE PROMISE IN WELL AT BANDINI ELLWOOD J. MUNGER In the Bandini district, the Fullerton Oil Co.'s Brickyard well is now at 5200 and is not showing any very encouraging oil indications. To outlook for a field seems very doubtful now. Operations in the new prospective Compton oil field center on the Union Oil Co. and C. C. Julian. The Union Oil Co. has had some success in the shutting off of water in the Callender well and drilling is going ahead at 3500 feet. The formation in the Union well is brown sandy shale. Julian drilling on the Pheo well is making excellent progress, some 3000 feet of hole has been made. At 2580 feet a surface showing created quite a little stir. The Nevada-Ventura Oil Syndicate suspended operations at La Mirada early last week, and whether or not the company will continue will be decided in a few days. The drilling stopped at 5149, where there was nothing to warrant the continuation of drill. The company has made a clean record, gave its stockholders all the run there was to give, and would have opened a new field had the oil been there to find. The McKeon Drilling Company has been doing the digging. In the San Jose Hills the Bardeen Oil Company has set a string of 6½ pipe in the Crittenden well and will be ready to make a test before long. The well has been looking a little encouraging and there will be little surprise if a commercial producer is not brought in. Misfortune struck the Seal Beach Oil Company when it failed to get a shut-off on the water with a string of 6½ at 4516. The Seal Beach test well was drilled to 5154 feet and the management seems to think they will have an oil well as soon as the water problem has been taken care of. On the Palos Verdes Hills tract the Lewis well has attained a depth FOR SALE—5 gal. Jersey cow and 3 wk. old calf. For quick sale, $70. No: 3 La Palma-ave., near Sugar Factory. AN IDEAL LOCATION for a winter or summer home, with wonderful money making possibilities at Solana Beach. This townsite is just being placed on the market, with prices of 50-foot lots ranging from $400 to $800 a lot; one-half acre tracts for $600, and acre tracts for $1000 on easy terms, with special inducements for those who build and improve immediately. Santa Fe Railroad now building station, Associated, Union and Standard Oil distributing stations nearly completed. Eight thousand acres adjoining this are being intensively developed by the Santa Fe, and Solana Beach has every indication of developing quickly into a thriving, prosperous town. An unexcelled opportunity is open for a short time for a garage, store and rooming house. Very special inducements offered for those who desire to go into business. Stop in and get a circular giving description and photos of this property. SIMPSON REALTY COMPANY 130 W. Center-st., Anaheim, Calif. DECIDED DECREASE IN DRILLING WELLS Notices filed with the stat oil and gas supervisor the week ending June 16, show marked decrease in new wells ready to drill; 15 notices were filed. This is the least number since November, 1921. The decrease is especially noticeable for Santa Fe Springs, Long Beach and Huntington Beach oil fields. It is a sign that definite steps are being taken in the most direct way possible to curtail overproduction. In the eleven weeks from April 1 to June 16 inclusive, 198 notices for new wells, in the three gusher fields, were fijed. The largest number for any week, 26 wells, was reported. Reasonabl Lemon-st., Colon WANTED—Party in rabbitty at B urrity proclamation Add pipe in the Crittenden well and will be ready to make a test before long. The well has been looking a little encouraging and there will be little surprise if a commercial producer is not brought in. Misfortune struck the Seal Beach Oil Company when it failed to get a shut-off on the water with a string of 6½ at 4516. The Seal Beach test well was drilled to 5154 feet and the management seem to think they will have an oil well as soon as the water problem has been taken care of. On the Palos Verdes Hills tract the Lewis well has attained a depth of almost 4400 feet and to date has found nothing of special encouragement. It is understood that 4500 feet of hole will be drilled before abandonment is considered. Among the new wildcat locations that attract interest this week is the location of two wells at Orange, the completion of a rig on the Wicker property at Cypress, and the location of a well on the Rheuther property at Clearwater. At Chino a well was spudded in Sunday that will be watched with interest. 15 NEW WELLS STARTED Oil field operations reported the week ending June 16 show 15 new wells started, as compared with 36 during the previous week. The total new wells this year is 717, as compared with 631 the same date last year. Tests for water shut-off this week numbered 45, as compared with 48 during the previous week. Yearly total to date 928; total to same date last year 784. Deepening or redrilling jobs this week numbered 9, as compared with 7 during the preceding week. Total to date this year 316; total to same date last year 423. Abandonments this week numbered 2, as compared with 4 during the preceding week. Total to date this year 117; total to same date last year 139. BLUNDER CORRECTED A head-foremost should never be executed without having the arms and hands extended in front of the head for protection and grace. The "sailor dives" in which the hands are at the sides are extremely dangerous and not as difficult to do or as graceful to watch as when the hands are in the proper position.
