SIDETRACK TOOLS IN JULIAN NO. 3
ELLWOOD J. MUNGER
Some one circulated the report that C. C. Julian had lost well No. 2 and that it was hopelessly junked. No one luck for Julian. Upon investigation it was found that the lost tools had been sidetracked and that drilling was going on nicely at 4350 feet.
The Peterson Syndicate realized a fine oil producer in the redrilling and deepening of its No. 1. Recompleted at 4660, the Peterson Syndicate No. 1 came back at 8000 barrels and is making 34.5 gas production.
The Petroleum Midway figured in the big production of the Springs field with a 6500 barrel at Feix No. 2. The big Foxx producer was completed at 4700 feet and is making 34.5 gravity oil.
The Standard Oil's north line test well Brownrigg-Keller No. 2 at 6225 is held up with pipe trouble. It is the intention of the Standard to get the well in condition to proceed with drilling if possible. As yet there have been no showings and the outlook is very doubtful.
The success of the Union Oil Co. was measured this past week with a 7000-barrel well on the Alexander property. Alexander No. 3 completed at 4694 is the big well, and it is doing 35.5 gravity oil, clean.
The Joe B. Turman Oil Syndicate has suspended operations on its No. 2 southwest side. Drilling was stopped at 5480, where it is understood the showings were not of an encouraging nature. Resumption of drilling will no doubt depend upon field developments.
Aside from the producers completed by the Bell of Montebello, the Shell Company, and the Standard Oil Co., there was nothing spectacular at Huntington Beach this past week. The Bell of Montebello's completion No. 5 at 5005 feet resulted in a 409-barrel well. The Shell Company put Dayport No. 1 on the run at 4350 feet.

Aside from the producers completed by the Bell of Montebello, the Shell Company, and the Standard Oil Co., there was nothing spectacular at Huntington Beach this past week. The Bell of Montebello's completion No. 5 at 5005 feet resulted in a 400-barrel well. The Shell Company put Davenport No. 1 on the pump at 4387 and the well is making about 200 barrels. The Standard Oil's completion was made on the Huntington A property, No. 14 at 4457 came in a 725-barrel well, producing 27 gravity oil. The Texas holding company added the fourth well for the week by bringing in No. 2 at 4615, a 550-barrel producer.
At Montebello H. L. Whiston is making splendid progress drilling the test well on the Bicknell. In the few short weeks the well has been drilling more than 3000 feet of hole has been made.
Interest in Richfield increases with the announcement that the new concern has taken over the Porter well formerly operated by the Richfield Union Petroleum Co. The new company is known as the Majestic Oil Company and is being financed by Los Angeles capital.
At Torrance the interest of the week centered on the well completed by Geo. F. Getty Fredrickson No. 1 completed at 3300 feet is making 400 barrels. Getty No. 2 is rigged up and will start drilling immediately.
The Calpetro Producers' Syndicate Bellflower failed to shut off water in the string of 8½ set at 3209 and will have to re-cement. On drilling out of the cement plug the sand heaved up in the hole and for a time gave the well the appearance of a real oil well.

Building will start soon there on a large scale by the most prominent builders of Orange County. There is very few lots left now, hurry, if you want to come in on the ground floor.

When shoes become wet on a hike it is not good to try to dry them quickly by putting them near the fire. This skrinks the shoes and will cause severe discomfort the next time they are worn. Shoes should be dried slowly. Filling them with warm sand or gravel will help speed up the process without hurting the leather.
