PROMINENT, GIRL
BECOMES BRIDE
AT HIGH NOON
THE wedding yesterday at high noon of Miss Philura Sparks and Mr Henry "Jack" Clemmens was one of the prettiest home affairs of the "bridal" season. The Sparks home was very attractive for the occasion and the wedding ceremony, performed by Rev. Coe Wellman, took place under a large white bell pretty trimmed in white.
The bride, an attractive alonde looked very pretty in her gown of white georgette. The embroidered veil, knotted satin ribbons for trimming, was caught with a corner of orange blossoms at the crown. She carried a large boquet of bride's roses.
Miss Callye Sparks, sister of the bride, wore an attractive pink georgette and carried pink sweetpeas. Dainty little June Annin in an orchid organdy was flower girl. Mr. E. A. Sparks, father of the bride, gave her away. Mr. Clemmens' attendant was his close friend, Wayland Sorensen, of Huntington Park. Mrs. Sam Snodgrass, sister of the bride played Lohengrin's Wedding March as the British party approached the improvised altar.
At 1 o'clock the dining table was prettily set for the wedding dinner in a color scheme carried out in lavender and white. The wedding cake was a beautiful white affair.
After dinner the couple left by motor for Yosemite and San Francisco in a new Haynes car. Mrs. Clemmens wore a very handsome blue tailored suit and chic hat to match.
Guests at the wedding included intimate members of both families.
The happy couple plans to live in Long Beach for the summer and will later take up their residence in Los Angeles where Mr. Clemmens has business interests. Mrs. Clemmena has been employed at the Golden State National bank for several years and prior to that time attended college in Los Angeles. The Sparks family has resided in the Anaheim vicinity for many years. The entire family.
Pastor's Wife is Hostess
With Mrs. J. A. Geissinger hostess to the ladies of the White Temple Foreign Missionary society yesterday, and with Mrs. Perry Mathis presiding, the meeting was an unusually pleasant one. The study from "Building With India," was conducted by Mrs. George M. Teebrick in her characteristically interesting way. The solo by Mrs. M. Engene Durfee, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. J. Marvin Hitchecock, was beautifully entertaining.
A demonstration, under the direction of Mrs. E. A. Collins, "Which? Christ or Mohammet?" showed the crying need of missionary work in India. Delineated by the Mesdames E. B. Segerstrom, Wm. Wellman, J. K. Langden, L. D. Goooyear, C. J. Cornwell and the tiny Misses Ellen and Catherine Collins, the inadequate provision at the missionary stations for famine stricken India were brot cut neat emphatically.
Although it was with regret the ladies received the message of her departure soon for Pueblo, Mexico, with her husband, in their new line of duties in a missionary school, Mrs. Coe Wellman, who has been remaining close at home through ill health, was a guest and gave a great deal of pleasure with her presence. Rev. and Mrs. Wellman plan to leave about the middle of July.
Serving choice refreshment concluded the delightful afternoon.
