BROADWAY HEAD
An elaborate Chinese color scheme completed the motif yesterday afternoon at Ramona Villa when Miss Deryl Kennedy entertained with a farewell party in honor of Miss Alice Grimshaw. The incentive for the pretty affair was the resignation of Miss Grimshaw as principal of the Broadway school and who will take up similar duties in Santa Ana.
Mah Jongg, the fascinating Chinese game, was played throughout the evening Miss Louise Denton was awarded the prize and Miss Grimshaw the guest prize. Tally cards carried an oriental design, also the place cards and napkins. Chinese lanterns were aglow and lent a soft glow of light to the rooms. Miss Annie Ryan assisted Miss Kennedy and both ladies wore imported Chinese gowns.
The luncheon menu carried an oriental air and was most delicious.
Honoring Miss Grimshaw were the most gracious hostesses, Miss Kennedy and Ryan, Mrs. Edith Ritter, Santa Ana; Mrs. Lawrence Southerland, the Misses Louise Denton, San Diego, Gladys Campbell, Long Beach; Elenora Parker, Erma Steedman, Francis Baeks, Catherine Dresser, Mattie Lou Robinson, Edith Hedstrom and the honoree, Miss Alice Grimshaw, all of Anaheim.

An all day meeting of the Cypress Society Bankerettes Evening
Miss LUCILLE BASTIAN entertained last evening for the members of the Bankerettes club. The usual amount of crabroidery work and conversation was enjoyed. Miss Bastian served dainty refreshments late in the evening.
Guests included Misses Mareta Westphal, Murie Gossett, Elsalia Schellens, Philura Sparks, Evelyn Degryse, Vera O'Rourke, Helen Weber, Gladys Aldrich, Leora Henlton, Elise Jessurun, Mrs. Bernard Dresser, C. B. Goodson, George Vermellion, Lloyd when a good program will be given, tess, Miss Bastian.
Philathea Social Night
The Philathea class members accepted the invitation of Mrs. A. V. Wheeler last evening and passed an unusually jolly evening. A business session occupied the early hours, but later the time was turned over to a social hour. Games were played and little Naomi Wheeler entertained with several piano solos. Tasty refreshments were served by Mrs. Wheeler who was assisted by her sister, Mrs. W. K. Suiter. Mrs. F. T. Edimston is president of the class and presided in her usual efficient manner.

Day At Long Beach
An all day meeting of the Cypress-Hanson Community club was conducive of a lively time when the club motored to Long Beach to be the guest of Mrs. Jack Dugan and Mrs. O. Lough, both formerly of Cypress, at the Dugan home on Florida east.
To make preparation of the buffet lunchconferral for the hostesses, the members carried along sandwiches, beans, spaghetti, salads, cream, pie and other substantials, which were supplemented by ice cream, cake, tea, coffee provided by the hostesses. Shafia dalis about the rooms served for decorative effect.
An afternoon program contained piano music by Mrs. Hartson, Huntington Park, sister of Mrs. Lugas; humorous readings by Mrs. Hugh La Rue; another by Tudla Dugas; a reading by Mrs. O. P. Bunyard, and others by Mrs. Abplanalp and Mrs. Iugan.
Modeler with chewing gum was successfully done by Miss Edna Joha, in making a counting little bride, emblem of the present month. Mrs. H. H. Hammond was given a consolation prize, a bottle, the contents of which were left unannounced. Other guessing games gave awards to Mrs. Abplanalp and Mrs. Ella Smith.

Recital Friday Night
Mrs. Mildred Fraser Goodcell and her music pupils are very busy shaping things for the recital which they will give in Guild hall Friday evening of this week, at 8 o'clock.
Mrs. Goodcell will be assisted by Miss Vergle Best, an artistic dancer from Los Angeles who will give two numbers. Mrs.Sidney Prince will also assist through playing the piano accompaniment for Earl Prince in his violin solo.

THE home of Mr. and Mrs. G. Hedstrom of Nutwood Ranch, Andhein, was the scene of a charming wedding Tuesday morning when their daughter Esther became the bride of Earl Simmons, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Simmons of Downey. The ceremony took place at 10 o'clock amid a bower of old fashioned flowers in French combination, gladiolas and delphinium predominating. Carrying out the colorful idea, Mrs. Simmons was gowned in peach canton, wearing a corsage of orchids and lilies of the valley.
Preceding the wedding march from Lohengrin played by Edna Hochuli of Anaheim, two favorites, "Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms," and "Because" were rendered by Mrs. A. Stevenson of Hollywood.
Following the exchange of vows a delightful two course wedding breakfast was served to the guests numbering 24 of the couples nearest friends and relatives. The pair left immediately by motor for a two month trip in the perthwest.

Joseph C. Hardin, prominent rancher of buena Park has returned from Pasadena where he acted as best man at the wedding of his brother, John E. Hardin, business man of Stratford, Mr. Hardin business-man of Stratford, Mr. Hardin and Miss Marlon Welsh were married at All Saints church by the Rev. Chase, Miss Florence Patterson, intimate friend of the bride acted as Bride's maid. The bride was pretty gowned in white chancery with veil of emerald.

The annual all day picnic of the Orange-co Hoosier society will be held in Orange-co park Thursday, June 28, beginning at 10 o'clock, when a god program will be given. All former residents of Indiana who new reside in Orange-co are cordially invited. Bring well filled baskets with a little more than enough sandwhiches to serve the family.

ANOTHER social affair given at the meeting of Chispa chapter, O. E. S., was successfully conducted last evening when all past matrons and past patrons and charter members available were honored by acting as officers during the initiation. Mrs. Guy Daniels, present worthy matron, and Alonzo Alexander, present worthy patron, presided with Mrs. J. P. Brastad, junior past matron and E. H. Metcalf, junior past patron.
Other past officers riled the places of associate matron, Mrs. C. M. Kemp; chaplain, Mrs. Anna Burson; conductor, Mrs. Della Kellenberger; associate conductress, Mrs. Maude McCann; warder, Mrs. Aka Squires; treasurer, Mrs. E. E. Lyberger; secretary, Dr. Walter Bigham; Adah, Mrs. Quarton; Ruth, Mrs. Ella Coons; Eather, Mrs. Daisy Mann; Martha, Mrs. Hattle Pearson; Electa, Mrs. J. Seven Graduate
Seven boys from St. Catherine's school for boys will be awarded diplomas of graduation tomorrow evening, at the exercises to be held in the auditorium of the school. These boys are Forest Fine, John Escovado, Jack MacFadden, Joseph Techtonlous, Paul Fleming, George Russek and Clet Carricat.
An eight-reel picture, "Cardigan," will be shown which gives a combination of important historical events for the foundation of the story, and in which the occasion for the words of Patrick Henry "give me liberty or give me death," arose. Other heroes of history, Paul Revere and John Hancock, are featured.
Benediction will be celebrated by Father Powers, who later will award diplomas. Contributions will be accepted.
Surprise Picnic Dinner
Members of the Cypress Nazarene church gave a jolly surprise Sunday after services to Mrs. T. F. Covel and son, Leslie, who recently sold their dairy ranch and have purchased a bungalow in Walnut Park. Unfortunately, Mr. Covel could not attend services and was not in on the pleasant affair.
Mrs. Covell and son were invited to go to the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Wicker and upon arrival were joined by 24 friends in an outdoor dinner, served in the shade of the spreading big mulberry tree. Fried chicken, salads, sandwiches, etc., formed a sumptuous repast.
The afternoon was passed in conversation and ringing church songs.

Serves As Best Man
Joseph C. Hardin, prominent rancher of buena Park has returned from Pasadena where he acted as best man at the wedding of his brother, John E. Hardin, business man of Stratford. Mr. Hardin and Miss Marlon Welsh were married at All Saints church by the Rev. Chase. Miss Florence Patterson, intimate friend of the bride acted as Bride's maid. The bride was prettily gowned in white charcoal with veil of embroidered net. She carried illies of the valley. Miss Patterson wore a pale shade of green. A wedding reception was held at the bride's home after the ceremony.
Mr. and Mrs. Hardin will go north where they will make their home.
Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Thomas of 1119 W. Broadway left today for a five months motor trip. They will cover points north and east. They recently sold their pretty home to Mrs. Anna Dochtler of Los Angeles.
Miss Lillian Clabaugh, of Jerome, Ariz., is the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Clabaugh.
Mrs. M. E. Bever will return this evening from a several days visit in Los Angeles with her sister, Mrs. Rosenberg.
Mrs. E. Cutter, who has recently operated a restaurant in Cypress, is a surgical patient in the Artesia hospital. She is reported improving.
Daniel Norland, whose toes were amputated two weeks ago when he attempted to board a truck is now home from the hospital. He is able to get about with the use of crutches. A very fine radio has been installed in his room for his pleasure.
Miss Frieda Barman and George A. Henry, motored to Riverside last evening. Miss Barman is from San Francisco and is visiting friends in Anaheim.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Shoebridge are announcing the birth of a daughter. Mrs. Shoebridge will be remembered as Miss Ruby Lucas. The couple is living at Long Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Dresser have returned from a honeymoon outing at Lake Arrowhead. They are domiciled in the palatial Schellens home at Perailta Hills.

Favors of dainty satin rosebud lingerie claps for the ladies and pretty sleeve holders for the men, were presented by Mrs.Daniels, worthy matron of Chispa chapter. The honoree were grouped about the large round table in the banquet room, the others at the smaller tables, which were decorated in a combination of pink and white Martha Washington and ferns. A light luncheon wa served.
The uncertainty in political fields may be due to the fact that multiplication of leaders has left none to qualify as followers.

Mr. and Mrs.Floyd Curtis and Miss Mattie Lou Robertson were guests at the marriage last evening of Rev.Clifford Bacon and Miss Gertrude Kiser, at the home of the former's relatives, Mr. and Mrs.W.B.Parks in Orange Rev.M.B.Pearson, pastor of Orange Presbyterian church officiated.
Mr., and Mrs.Bacon left at once for a trip to New York, where they plan to make their future home. As Miss Kiser, the bride was a teacher in the Central school here during the past year and made many friends who are offering good wishes and congratulations.

MISS EILEEN ADAMS, a bride elect, was honored last evening with a miscellaneous shower given by the Misses Mabsl Zeigler and Alice Humphrey at the home of the former, 205 North Clementine-st.
As Miss Alice Humphrey sang and played "I Love You Truly," little Peggy Akerman presented Miss Adams with a bridal bouquet of Cecil Bruner roses, much to her delight.
The shower of beautiful miscellaneous gifts was presented in a novel manner. Miss Zeigler, dressed as a French maid, wheeled a pretty cab, decked with white ribbons and draperies into the room and presented the contents to the honoree. They included many lively gifts of linen, china, etc., which will add much to the hope chest. A charming toast was given to the bride-to-be.

YORBA LINDA, June 13.(8pt.)—The funeral of Benj. Bemis, held at McAuley's parlors at Fullerton on Monday morning was attended by a large number of sorrowing friends. Mr. Bemis had resided here for about twelve years and had made a host of friends with his genial kindly nature. He had made plans to go to his old home in Vermont the latter part of the month for a few months visit. Mrs. G. E. Pratt, a daughter arrived from Iowa on Sunday for the services and the other children were also present. They included Arthur Bemis, Mrs. C. H. Elechler of Olinda; Mrs. Gallerd Page of Garden Grove and Homer Bemis of Chino; Burial was at Mount Olive at Whittier, beside his wife who passed away about nine years ago. The floral offerings were many and very beautiful, as were the services which were in charge of the Elks, of which lodge Mr. Bemis was a prominent member. Rev. Marsh of this place spoke a few words of comfort to the sorrowing relatives and friends. Mr. Bemis was sixty-two years of age.
Two Y. L. homes changed hands last week. Mr. Hollingsworth sold his house to Mr. V. Murphy, who will occupy it as soon as Mr. Hollingsworth can move his family elsewhere. Mr. Harry Kendrick has sold his home to Mrs. Pierson sister of Mrs. Nellie B. Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Kendrick have purchased a fine lot in Fullerton and will build on it at once so that Mrs. Pierson may occupy her new possession when she comes here in September.
The local cribbage club entertained the Fullerton Club at the Woman's Club house on Friday evening, and resulted in the local club winning. The final game will be played at Fullerton
